Our own representative?
With nominations for the LJ advisory board open, I would like to suggest that this group choose a member to put forth. That way the desires of this community will have someone actively promoting them in a place where they might be more openly heard, and there would also be the support of the community to get that suggested individual closer to the 100 motions of support that will be needed.

What do you folks think? Would someone here be willing to do that, and would you folks be willing to support someone from this community? I think most of us here care enough about LJ that we would be appropriate for the role.

I'll be happy to support someone from this community for the advisory board.

...Not me, though. I care, but I don't care THAT much. :B

I suggest that you join forces with [info]ljunited in the quest to support a single candidate. Too many small candidates are likely to get squashed. The goals of these two groups are also remarkably similar and would be good, ahem, bedfellows. There's already crossover between them.

[info]foxfirefey would get my vote if she's interested, but she's swamped in finals stuff currently.

Beyond that Mark's project at ljunited looks fine to me.

I strongly encourage all of you to consider endorsing [info]rm as the candidate supported by [info]no_lj_ads.

I've known [info]reive (now [info]rm ) since the earliest days of LiveJournal, and she's very intelligent, eloquent, and strongly in support of our position.

Specifically, she says:
"The privacy of user information should be non-negotiable. No user should ever have to see ads if they don't want to (and yes, I have a hard time imagining who would); this includes receipt of unsolicited emails from LJ. I also believe the broadest definitions of freedom of speech aren't only the best ones for the LJ community as a whole, but actually the most workable ones from a corporate perspective."

She stands up for the original promises made to the members of LJ, and is an ideal advocate for our issues.

She is not only strongly opposed to unwanted ads, she also represents a whole number of subcultures on LJ, which should be helpful in getting her nominated:

- She's an early adopter.
- A member of the larger fandom community.
- A writer / content creator.
- An artist.
- A strong advocate for women's issues.
- An advocate for issues involving sexuality and censorship.
- A very worldly LiveJournal user, with strong overseas ties.

While I certainly encourage the members of [info]no_lj_ads to join us over at LJ United, as we hope to provide a strong grassroots movement to support our shared issues of concern, I think it would be worthwhile to put the issue up to a vote over here, or at least invite candidates like [info]rm to talk directly to the members of this community, and perhaps have some sort of a vote on whether we should endorse someone here.
