| I was a pretty big fan when "pretty hate machine" came out around 90, so-so with "broken", had completely lost interest by the time the downward spiral came out and never paid any attention to trent's work ever since, until recently. I made a couple remixes based on the kits he released on his website and began revisiting a lot of his older (but more recent than broken) music, which I've enjoyed quite a bit actually.
I've noticed what seem to be a lot of interesting parallels between songs. In "down in it", he has the line
just then a tiny little dot caught my eye.
it was just about too small to see.
but i watched it way too long.
that dot was pulling me down.
And from "Only" (With teeth)
The tiniest little dot caught my eye and it turned out to be scab
and I had this funny feeling Like I just knew it was something bad
I just couldn't leave it alone, picking at that scab
Like it was a doorway trying to seal itself shut
But I climbed through

I've been a big NIN fan since late 1997 and became a little obsessed in 1998. In the last few (i.e. 6 or so) years I've kinda fallen out of the loop though. My b/f bought me The Fragile in 1999 and I've barely listened to it. But my recent forays into NIN LJ comms alerted me to the new album!! So today I went out and bought it and fuck, With Teeth (the song) is good. I'm still forming an opinion of the whole album. A lot of the lyrics seem lamer to me but perhaps they just need to grow on me.
In late 1998 I was lucky enough to score a rather extrensive NIN collection, including some demo discs for a mere $60 from a friend of mine (who got me RIGHT into NIN). He had a parking fine to pay and was willing to part with his collection for that measly sum. His loss!
Another reason NIN are rather significant in my life is due to a role play character/alter ego of mine. Storm first came along in a story I wrote. She grabbed the attention of a performer based directly on Trent (or more a damn sexy photo of Trent from a magazine article). Later when I started role playing her in vampire RP she became a vampire, but yeah NIN songs pretty much define her and her relationship with another character.
Of course, I also think Trent is fucking sexy. If this isn't allowed let me know and I shall delete, but if not join ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) do_me_reznor and post loads of sexy Trent pics for my gratification! *grins sweetly*
Oh, and anyone know if NIN are touring Australia anytime in the future? I missed them last time they were here because they only performed at the Big Day Out and I only wanted to see them (read Trent). | | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |

| There's a book called Phantom by Susan Kay - which is pretty much an extended tale of Erik, The Phantom Of The Opera. I just finished it, and one scene had a NIN song in my head all day long.
The excerpt
Christine has just put on a wedding dress at Erik's request and sung a line from a very passionate opera.
"This was a mistake . . . a terrible mistake! Christine, please go back to your room and take that gown off quickly. "
He wrapped both arms around his chest in a fierce strangling hold that frightened me, made me take a step toward him in alarm.
"Are you ill?" I whispered in horror. "Are you ill again?"
"No!" His voice was a strangled breath that somehow, at the last moment, managed to become a bitter laugh. "Yes . . . perhaps it is a kind of sickness, in a way. Go to your room and leave me alone for a while, would you, my dear?"

| i finally watched THTF video this morning. i have previously abstained from listening to any of the leaks/"official" releases prior to now. this is just what was going through my head as i watched the video...hence the subject, just a thought...take it with a grain of salt because most of the time i have no idea what im talking about.
anyone else kind of wonder if THTF was intentionally made "poppy" and released first?
the lyrics will you bite the hand that feeds you? will you stay down on your knees?
make me think he's almost talking about/poking fun at his fans?
think about it- this could be Trent's version of 1. a joke, or 2. a test
a joke because he knows his fans will bash him, as many of you have, for making a poppy first single.
a test because he wants to see if we will continue to stand behind him, even if, as many of you have stated, you dont like the new sound.
god knows hes done "on your knees" lyrics before. maybe this is a throwback to his other albums where everyone loved it for the most part. hes seeing if his fans will continue to enjoy the music "down on [our] knees" regardless of what impression this new single gives us of the upcoming album.
i am refusing to form any real thoughts about how the entire new album will sound. NIN has always been an album band, with each song telling something and continuing from the previous song. i will wait for the album and continue to support NIN...will you?

| hay kids. just dropping in to say hello. ive been a nin fan for years and ive just gotten around to exploring the wonders of the lj communities. its nice to know im not the only nin fan around.
i finally got my hands on a copy of halo 1..ive been looking for a copy that wasnt all scratched and horrible. and finally, my boyfriend found me one for christmas.

| Hmmm... this might be interesting. Why don't we all post our all time favorite NIN lyrics, and explain why they're our favorites?
Mine come from "Wish" :
"I put my faith in God and my trust in you/now there's nothing more fucked up I could do"
It's like my personal motto. Of all Trent's lyrics, these really seem to describe my beliefs about God/religion, and people in general. I don't ever trust anyone completely, and I'm pretty much an atheist when it comes to religion. I have faith in myself, and no one or nothing else. Making myself vulnerable to others is something I never do. Whenever I hear someone speak about their religious faith, or how much they trust someone else, these lyrics come to mind.
