And now for something totally different...

I signed up for a GameFly account and got my first game last night - Chocobo's Dungeon.

Now, I'm not typically a hold-my-hand gamer, but rather a I-can't-bear-to-miss-anything one. Which is why am excited about the idea of Chocobo's Dungeon. Heck, I actually went back to play my old Might and Magic games a few months back because I wanted to play a game that was so random that I didn't need a walkthrough to make sure I got every piece of treasure. Chocobo's Dungeon seems like a cross between Might and Magic and Flame Emblem (only Flame Emblem for kids or for stupid people like me) so I was pretty pumped. Even so, after I died several times in a couple dungeons, I went looking for a simple walkthrough on the different dungeons.

And there aren't any.

There are lots of forums and posts about the various secrets to Chocobo's Dungeons, which I enjoyed reading, but there's no "Here's a list of the dungeons and when you can go to them and when you SHOULD go to them," sort of walkthrough.

So, I decided to write my own. Yeah, I know I'm about a week behind everyone else, but it's also kind of for my own reference. Anyway, I've never written a walkthrough before, so wish me luck?

Edit: Oh, and I feel obligated to offer this short review.

So far, Chocobo Dungeon is a lot of fun. Simple, it's true. Some of the scenes are a little cheesy, no doubt about it. But, COME ON. It is totally impossible to say anything even remotely bad about a game whose main character is as absolutely, unbearably melt-into-a-pile-of-goo adorable as Chocobo. *squee*

That is all. ;)

Dear people nerd raging over Nintendo's Media Briefing,

Hey! How are you guys doing? Oh? Pissed off? That's not good. What's got your knickers in such a twist? Oh, you guys didn't like the media briefing, that's too bad. I didn't realize you guys worked for ABC's morning news show.

You don't? Well, then surely it's another network morning show. No? A major, mainstream publication then? Maybe just a small town newspaper? Huh...so, you guys don't work for a mainstream press outlet, at all?

Well, I have good news, then:

Today's media briefing was not for you.

Yes, that's right, today's media briefing was for (ironically enough) the media. Mainstream media, to be exact (as in not IGN or Gamespot or whatever site you frequent). Tomorrow on morning news shows across North America, they will talk about Wii Sports, and Wii Music, and all that jazz. They won't talk about games like Call of Duty or complain that there isn't a new Zelda. Because they don't care about those games. Their audience doesn't care about those games. So Nintendo makes sure they show games that will ensure the main stream press talks about them, so that they can get their name to the last few people living under rocks, who still haven't heard about Wii.

But, y'know, it was only 75 minutes. 75 minutes out of a week that they pandered to someone other than you. Remember when Smash Bros Brawl was announced? That wasn't at the media briefing. If memory serves me correctly, it was the end of second last day of E3. So, why not wait until, I don't know, E3 is over before you start with your indignant rants.

Besides, if you remember how Nintendo was back in the 64 and Cube days, we were lucky if we got 2 AAA titles in one year, and we've already gotten 2 in the first six months. Just have some faith. Or go sell your Wii. I don't really care what you do, just keep the rage outs to yourself.

kthxbai

I should also mention that the Games Convention held in Leipzig, Germany, is about 5 weeks away, and it is the show for hardcore players. So, if E3 doesn't bring something you want, Leipzig might.

Nintendo Unveils ‘Motion Plus’ Wii Add-On

Actually there IS something new to talk about ;)

Check out the Wii Motion Plus

Personally, I wish they would have just released an updated remote (that is more ergonomic plus with the updated motion) instead of an add-on. <s>With this add-on, there's nowhere to plug in the nunchuk, so the new accuracy will only be limited to certain games.</s>

What do you guys think?

Edit: I didn't see the nunchuk port. I see it now, but I still wish they would have just released a second wiimote.

MOD POST: E3 Reminders

You guys have been pretty good so far considering Nintendo's press conference is tomorrow and there /really/ isn't anything new to talk about yet... But just a few reminders for tomorrow:

Time: 9:00AM PDT/12:00PM EDT (16:00 GMT)
Where you can view live video: GameSpot, G4 (online and onair live)

Now as far as the community goes, no multiple posts on the same topic. If after posting you notice someone in the time it took for you to make your post made a post on the same topic, be kind and delete your post and contribute to the conversation of the other post. And darn it, please make a discriptive topic or sentence in your post if you're just posting a picture or a video....

Other than that, have fun, be kind to yourselves and others, stay in school, drink your milk...

Abnormal Win/Loss count on Mario Kart Wii.

Hi, Name's Tom. I have been reading this community for a while now but have not needed to post anything as such.

I have had Mario Kart Wii for a few days now and I am enjoying it thus far. Anyways when I booted it up it told me I had won 50 times on Nintendo Wi-fi and that I earned a new vehicle.

Thing is, I have NEVER actually "won" a race on Wifi, let alone over 50 times. I'm not that good yet, plus I have not played it THAT much.

The stats say:

Wins: 77
Losses: 179

Am I missing something because that does not sound right to me.

Cheers,

-- Tom :)

does anybody have recommendations for a place to sell used wii games online?

ebay won't let you list video games unless you accept credit cards. I tried doing it anyway, but they just removed the listings. damn you ebay! I have a paypal account, but can only accept cash transfers/echecks because it isn't a business account.

Please please please tell me there is a way to change to gamecube controller's button configuration for virtual console games!

I have only one classic controller, and the boyfriend and I would love to play games such as super mario world and donkey kong country two player, but the fact is, he finds it really awkward because the gamecube version of the contols is AWFUL. REALLY AWFUL.
Basically, he can't run and jump, because of they way the buttons were layed out...

I know that there used to be an option in some of the SNES games that allowed you to change how the buttons were configured, but I can't even find that.

Please tell me that nintendo didn't fail the wii again. :(.

GameFaqs.com has a "Saves" section that I want to try for my Wii. I see there are saves for Super Mario Galaxy, that are a .bin format. Do I just download them to an SD card, and pop it in my Wii? Do I have to have a specific directory structure? Do I need to rename the .bin file?

WiiWare's Lost Winds

I was just wondering if anyone had downloaded the WiiWare title Lost Winds yet and what they thought of it. It looks like a bit of an Okami knockoff to me, but I loved Okami on the PS2 so much I'd be willing to give Lost Winds a try if it was similar.

I haven't actually tried any of the WiiWare titles yet but I was wondering how long the games actually were considering the limited storage space on the Wii. Are there any that are really must haves?

My game of the day: Fire Emblem

I only have one thing to say about this game. OMG, it is so hard! SO SO SO SO hard!

Am I just a moron? I have no experience with games like FF Tactics, but even so... GAH! And then when I do get a certain ways through it, I do some research and learned that I should have let so-and-so get the experience or I missed a secret item here or I could have gotten more experience by doing it this way and I can't keep myself from going back and starting the game over again to do it right.

Please, just tell me one thing. Is this supposed to be the sort of game where you repeat battles over and over again (and yes, I do knwo about the battle save) until you get it right? Or do I just have the intelligence of a 2-year old?

help?

i just bought okami yesterday and started playing last night.

i stopped when i got stuck.

i figured i would give it another try when i got home from work, but i'm still stuck.

i went looking for help online and found this: Those motion controls, though – well, they’ve been implemented in an incredibly half-hearted manner. As a consequence, the game is about five times as fiddly and about ten times as hard.

The moment that got us totally stuck was a training mission. Yes, that’s right, a sodding training mission (Reminds me of Hidden and Dangerous 2 – Ed).

Early on in the game, in Kamiki Village, you meet a lazy git called Susano, who’s supposed to be a descendant of the warrior Nagi (I won’t get into the story too much now though).

Eventually, Ammy (that’s the wolf you play, short for Amaterasu. Yes, we thought he was called Okami too) persuades Susano to wake up and start destroying a boulder, and so you have to ‘help’ the brave warrior by ‘Slashing’ all his targets.

To ‘Power Slash’, you have to open up the canvas with B and draw a straight line with the Brush while holding A. What could be simpler? ANYTHING, that’s what!

Okami Wii’s definition of what constitutes a ‘straight line’ is extraordinarily picky, and usually has specific camera angles, directions or speeds required. Most of the time, it will just reject your feeble attempts at quick drawing.

You have to do the Power Slash three times or you have to start again. And did we mention that Ammy’s companion, the bug-thing Issun, mocks you every time you fail? And that you can’t skip through the slow-moving text, because the game thinks it’s helping by repeating the same piece of information five times in a row?

and that's where i am stuck. and where i am getting annoyed.
every third time or so, i can get the power slash to work.
but i can't figure out what makes it work. the speed? how straight the line is? how long the line is?
does it need to be left to right? does it matter what angle the camera is at?

so, does anyone here know what the trick is to doing the power slash?

Rise of the Chocobo?

I just uncovered mention of a new Square Enix game that's supposed to come out next week (7/10). Or that's what I read. I haven't done any further research, but it surprised me that any Square Enix game had snuck under my radar. So, has anyone seen or read anything about Final Fantasy Fables?

Next Month...

Just got my Nintendo Power today and it had some interesting information at the back about the title they're going to talk about in their next issue. Any speculation on what it might be?

I'm tempted to say it's a new Zelda title since I've heard Team Zelda's been quite busy, but it could also be about the new Crystal Chronicles, maybe. Especially since the protagonist is supposed to be a king.

Anyway, what do you all think?

Link's Crossbow Training

This might be a bit of a stretch, but I'm looking for anyone who's gotten a high score on Level 1-1 in Link's Crossbow Training.

My high score is 107,331 and it seems to be higher than any score I can find online. Since I'm always looking for a challenge, I was hoping that I could find someone here with an even higher score.

I currently have 9 (great) games for Wii, but I find myself playing this little $20 game the most. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't have it.

Mega Man 9 is (supposedly) coming to Wii Ware. According to "The Mega Man Network", the game is revealed in the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power, and will feature old school, 8-bit graphics. The scans posted on the site are illegible, so until higher resolution scans become available, or, better yet, until I get my hands on the magazine, I'm going to suggest you take this with a grain of salt (you never know when someone's playing a horrible trick on you, after all!). Also according to the site/article, Inti Creates is handling the development, which is good news, because after 4 amazing Zero games on GBA and 2 great ZX games on DS, I'm confident they know how to make a good Mega Man game.
