Well, you asked for it, and Nintendo is giving it. Mario Kart DS will supposedly feature 8-player online racing action. Joy! The first wind came from the direction of EGM Magazine:

DS - June 2005 - By now plumber turned action-game superstar Mario has spent more hours behind the wheel than he has behind the toilet plunger. The year 2005 will be a banner one for Mario Kart fans: This DS version will be the first to offer online multiplayer karting action

To confirm, one might check Gamespot's info page for Mario Kart DS. Lo and behold:

* Connectivity: Online / System Link
* Offline Modes: Competitive
* Online Modes: Competitive
* Number of Players: 1-8
* Number of Online Players: 8 Players Online

So, not only should Mario Kart DS have online connectivity, it looks as though we'll be seeing the game sooner rather than later.

Now, go tell it on the mountain.

From the snippet I'd assume sometime in June 2005. If that's the case it's gonna make me a very happy person! What's better than 5 months of waiting? How about only 2 months of waiting ;)

That would be pretty awesome. but Gamespy is taking the DS online, not GameSpot. Anyway, even though they're not perfect I have no reason to doubt that they're right about it being online. Still though, I haven't heard about it from anywhere else.

I hope it is online but I'm not sure if its true. I'm sure if nintendo made an announcement about it then most game sites would mention it in their news but so far no ones mentioned anything. I'm still hoping this article is true though, even if it is delayed until the DS goes online.

During the press conference at GDC, a lot of people misiterpereted that Mario Kart was going online, but in fact Iwata never even alluded to that being the case. He siply showed off Mario Kart LAN right after discussing online plans.

I hope I'm not right on this, but maybe EGM misinterpereted that as well.

Also worth considering is at GDC, Reggie said Mario Kart DS would be the killer app of the fourth (third?) quarter. So it's sort of unlikely that it'll be coming out this summer, unless June is the Japan release date, or Nintendo suddenly changed their mind.

Warp Pipe sorta brought Mario Kart: Double Dash online.

I never quite got it working (well, never bought a Broadband adapter at all) but it does look cool.

The april fools joke in the april issue (duh) Is the Bonus disc for pre-ordering the new Zelda game, The mag says that starting April 1st (hint hint!) if you pre-order the new zelda game, you will also get WindWaker with the new, updated graphics thingy...

...Just so you know
