I Speak for Sue A...
I'm posting this for Sue A as she was trying to post to this site and it wasn't working. She emailed me her post and I am pasting it here: See, Deb - it's been almost a week and not a single reply to your post. It truly is a shame because I thought this was a great venue for us all to share our thoughts and keep in touch. If anyone else is "lurking" out there, please join in, otherwise it just looks like this site has just died a very painful death. Painful to me anyway. Their reply was: I kept trying to post this the usual way, but it never got there. So, Sue, I'm riding on your coat tails.... Suesox
I can't sit back while Ralph throws out the possibility that I've become a Yankees fan! Believe it or not, though, the only full game I've watched this year is the one I attended at Fenway. It was the game in which Beckett and Lowe pitched. Very much of a pitchers' duel. I don't know why, but I can't sit through a whole game at home this season. Something psychological, probably. I do follow what's going on, though.
I am very glad to see people back here. I was almost afraid to check it out tonight. I thought that if I didn't see any posts I'd get depressed.
Someone asked about Rich... Well, he's definitely on Facebook ...in a big way. His posts were so prolific- and kind of way-out-there- that I blocked them. I like Rich, and I am grateful for what he contributed to this site, but I guess things/people change.
Hey Ralph- I'm going to have hand surgery in Boston by the surgeon who works on the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders of the Red Sox players! Should I ask, "Doctor, will I be able to throw a knuckle ball after my surgery?"

Sad Sad State of Affairs - This Website!

Checking in
Hi everyone, I just visited this site for the first time in ages. It wasn't that I've been ignoring everyone; I had just forgotten about it, sad to say. I didn't set out with the intent to replace LJ with Facebook. In fact, for quite some time, I would check out both. But there seemed to be so much more activity in Facebook than here, that little by little, without even being aware of it, I just transitioned to FB. (I make it sound like a sex change, huh?) Even if you don't become a real active user of Facebook, you can still just register to see who's on there. Just like any site, there are people who post every thought, and just as many (or more) who just read stuff and remain silent. But I have to admit, there are many more NHSers there, just because it's so well known. Only your "friends" can see your profile and what you write, and you have total control over who your friends are. So I like that part of it. In addition, it has been an unusally hectic spring/summer. Since my mom died in March, I have assumed total responsibility for all my dad's needs. Decisions regarding my mom's last days, moving my dad to an apartment (not assisted living) 1/2 mile away from me, selling his house, putting the dog down, sending him home with meals, explaining every little change to him, the list goes on and on. It has been overwhelming at times as it never seems to stop. (Now see, this I would not post on Facebook!). Someone told me the other day they have taken on the task of cleaning out their own accumulated stuff now so it doesn't get dumped on their kids someday. It's called "Operation Die Tidy." I like that. Speaking of what I like, the reunion was a lot of fun. Very relaxing and everyone was in good spirits. I brought my bike down and on Saturday, I actually rode from Look Park all the way to Amherst on the bike path. What a great thing they've done with that. Clocked 23 miles. I didn't stop to think that once I got to Amherst, I did have to come all the way back... I was wiped! And I swear, the 3 mile ride from King St to Look Park is just one long gradual uphill ride. I just wanted someone to come by in a pick-up and just throw the bike - and me - in the back! But they didn't, so I did it. Debbie | | Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 | 1:19 pm [cowgirlsue2u]

Sad indeed.
Well since I refuse to join Facebook, guess it's goodbye to all those Class of 1969 LJ posters who seem to have gone away. On a positive note, I attended our 40th reunion last weekend and had a great time seeing a lot of folks that I haven't seen in a long time. It was well worth the effort. | | Monday, June 29th, 2009 | 11:11 pm [crescentstreet]

Yes?
Uhhhh.... Sadly, I think the lack of traffic speaks for itself. Time to move over to FaceBook. | | Sunday, June 28th, 2009 | 3:17 pm [suesox]

Lilly of the Valley
You defnitely need to dig and plant them, not just place them. They will spread like crazy, so make sure you give each plant plenty of room. They should now be past flowering, so don't expect them to flower this year. My quite large plot of these were started from about 5-6 plants. They are one of the first plants to flower after the daffodils and tulips. | 3:44 pm [suesox]

lilies of the valley
I was given the wonderful gift of 8 big pots of lilies of the valley, my favorite flower! I went out to plant them today, thinking it would be like planting marigolds, but not so! The lilies of the valley are in one huge clump with roots intertwined. At the bottom of the container was some dirt/soil. Should I just put the flowers on the ground and dump the dirt around the clump? Do I need to dig? I'm sure some of you are gardeners. It's clear that I'm not! Reunion
It's being held on June 27 at the Northampton Country Club - same place we had our last reunion - same venue. No sit down dinner (yay!) - just h'ors doeuvres, drinks, dessert and coffee. That way people tend to mingle more. The last reunion that they handled this way went well, I thought. People really did walk around chatting with folks and didn't seem to stay in little pockets as much. It works especially well for those of us that go alone - it's much easier to walk into a party when everyone is milling about than to walk in to a more formal sit down affair. I don't think I'd go if it was set up that way. | 3:07 am [suesox]

Mid-night visit
I'm with you, Sue....disappointed that people seem to have abandoned this site. I really don't like Facebook much. Where is you reunion being held? When? I haven't seen anything about it in the paper. I should go back to bed now; just want to say, "Hi." Current Mood: tired | | Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | 1:29 pm [cowgirlsue2u]

Where is Everybody???
So has everyone abandoned this site in favor of Facebook? This is the least amount of activity I've seen on the LJ in awhile, and I'm surprised, especially with the reunion coming up next month. Is anyone other than me going? It sure would be nice to see you guys in person for a change. Richard Berube
I read about Richard Berube, too. Was he the fellow who pretty much kept to himself, looked down most of the time, and had a distinctive walk and way of talking? As I recall, he was very kind, but one had to approach him and initiate conversation to find that out. I wonder what he died from. I wonder if he had any friends.... Asking again
I know I've asked this question before, but I'll ask again. Does anyone know how I can reverse something I inadvertently did on Facebook? I tried to delete the image of one person, but in doing so, I deleted everyone's profile photo. I've tried everything I can think of to reverse this but have had no luck. Any suggestions? Mel
I spoke with Mel a week before he died. He seemed his usual upbeat self. I had no reason to think anything was bothering him. He will be missed. | | Monday, May 4th, 2009 | 12:54 pm [cowgirlsue2u]

Just Heard Also
I just had a conversation with Mary Ellen Frenier (Walsh) who was personally handing me my reunion invite. She said the committee felt bad because they had just sent out invitations and one was to Mel. Who could have possibly known at that point? I wonder what was going on with him that caused his sad decline. | 4:40 am [wa1uol_ralph]

Our Friend, Rich
I don't know who of you has Rich Briere on your friend list, but if you've been following, he appears to be cramming what he can into his vehicle and leaving or selling the rest, including his house. He's off for places, even countries, unknown. Just thought you'd want to know. I think he's leaving in July, but I could be wrong about that.
