In other (non-Favre) news, Stallworth's going to jail.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth took full responsibility for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida and began serving a 30-day jail sentence Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter.

Stallworth also reached a confidential financial settlement to avoid a potential lawsuit from the family of 59-year-old Mario Reyes, according to Stallworth attorney Christopher Lyons.

Stallworth faced 15 years in prison. After his release from jail, Stallworth must serve two years of house arrest and spend eight years on probation.

The NFL has said it will review the matter for possible disciplinary action. Lyons said the plea agreement will allow Stallworth to resume his football career.

Stallworth also must undergo drug and alcohol testing, will have a lifetime driver’s license suspension and must perform 1,000 hours of community service. Lyons said after five years, Stallworth could win approval for limited driving such as for employment.

The family was pushing for a quick resolution - read: paid them enough so that it's worth less to them to see him rot in jail.

Either way, color me completely unsurprised.

If I were the family, I would have rather seen him rot in jail.

And yeah, I'm not very surprised either, but still.

Yeah, I think it does show that if you throw enough money at a problem it will go away.

Welcome to Florida.

I was reading somewhere that because there was potential dispute that Reyes was jaywalking, Florida law might let Stallworth slide on everything but DUI.

Of course, if he'd ran over a pregnant woman, he'd have to serve sixty days in prison.

Wow. Somehow I forgot about this incident.. Although, not all that surprised to see him get the penalty he got. Not really mad about it either.

Then again, I've never been the 'justice served' type, either.

I've said this plenty of times before:
How the fuck did Michael Vick end up in jail for years yet Little and Stallworth kill people and are playing again a few months later?

i agree. i mean, this isn't like Stallworth murdered him out of spite or anger, he was drunk and driving. i'm surprised he didn't get at least 5 years for that.

So Plaxico Burress shoots himself in the leg and could do three years. Michael Vick killed dogs for sport and he gets two years. Stallworth killed a man and gets 30 days? Best lawyer in America.

i was telling my girlfriend that same thing in regards to Vick and Stallworth.

Honestly, jaywalking or not, Stallworth should be doing some major jailtime...

I don't know if anyone else is following the Andrew Gallo case (Gallo is the guy who was driving druck and killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, as well as two others)

well I guess he's looking at 55 to life, and life is not completely out of the question.

So here's the question:

if Stallworth is an average joe, does he still get 30 days, or is he, a black man in Florida (remember back to the 2000 elections and the way blacks were treated in Florida) given a max sentence? Go.
