| Thank you _toxicmoxy for the heads up, because this was great. From the start of the gathering point, two women with Gotham City Times newspaper bags were giving out t-shirts, then newspapers, then more t-shirts. If you were late for the papers and some white dude with a pile of them was giving them out, that was most likely me. I had them passed off to me when they had to go back (to get more t-shirts I guess). Then came two guys with Domino's Pizza Bozes that had a clue in it to go to the food court and find the next clue. Some dude in a batman mask found a lock, and when opened had a note that said to go to the fountain on Centre Street and look west. Once everyone was there, giant ass batman shot from the Pace building to another building (Woolworth I think? At least the Wiki says so.), and that was it. Or at least when I left. A highlight of the evening was some guy who was probably just in the park, somehow ended up with a bunch of people following him. He was able to get them all to go in a subway station and hop turnstiles to follow him for a clue. Best red herring ever. Me being the perfect citizen ever used my Metrocard to get in. Shame on those felons who hopped the turnstile! | |

| Hi.
I was looking at the Department of Parks website for tennis permits in the city, and I got confused on whether you can only play when you have a permit or if you can play with the single-play tickets.
What if you just want to try it out (like my friends and I are doing), isn't getting a $100 permit too much?
Anyone have any personal experience with this? We're looking at Astoria Park and some other parks in Queens.
Thanks. | |

| I wear a size 8 1/2 double wide. Does anyone know of a wide width shoe store in Manhattan? I prefer casuals, no heels and a store on or near the route the M1 travels would be great.

| I am in love with these sundresses. But I don't like the fact that the neckline plunges so deep; unlike the models in these photos, I have large breasts and what is "cute" on them would look "pr0nographic" on me. :) Has anyone seen variations on these dresses that have closed tops (and non-backless would be good too), or at least just more fabric in that region? (Please, no responses from creeps/fetishists. I'm not interested, unless you can sew.) | |

| The parents of a 25-year-old Columbia University student who disappeared two days ago are asking for the public's help. Toby Cohen left his girlfriend's apartment Sunday evening, took $200 out of an ATM and traveled back to his Washington Heights home. They are especially worried because he left his wallet and the medication he takes to control a life-threatening medical condition in his apartment. Anyone with information should call the 33rd Precinct, (212) 927-3200. The link to the Daily News article, including a picture of Toby, is here. | |

| Hey all,
So, I'm down in the Union Square area... and I need to get simple, tiny, gold post earrings. Just little studs. No big deal - or it shouldn't be... but where the heck could I go to get such things? Filenes? Someplace else? They are for my nose, but don't have to be Official Body Jewelry.
Thanks!

| Hi all,
I checked the history and couldn't find it - Where can one get a watch resized (get some links removed)? The watch (band and all) is made of steel.
Thanks in advance! | |

| I'm really afraid of closing subway doors. Really. Afraid. One of my biggest fears is that one day I won't stand clear of the closing doors, please! and CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH they eat me. Oh, but only half of me; the other half is hanging out the doors as the train drives away. Is this possible? Unlike nice, polite elevator doors that instantly back up if they sense a person in their jaws, wrestling with subway doors actually feels like wrestling. Eeep. | |

| Angry New Yorkers Scare Flight Crew Off American Airlines Flight"On Sunday night, an American Airlines flight from Miami to La Guardia, which should have been a quick, routine trip, turned into a 24-hour nightmare for a group of passengers. It began when the plane was left on the ground for over an hour after its scheduled takeoff time (9:45 p.m.) because the flight crew was nowhere to be found. When they finally arrived, the understandably annoyed passengers vocally razzed them. The crew took offense to this and refused to fly with what they called a "hostile" group. American scrambled to find an alternate crew, but couldn't. The passengers were put up in a hotel for the night and then flown up to La Guardia the next day. Their joy at arrival was mitigated only by the fact that their luggage had landed across town at JFK. The flight crew hopes this will be a lesson to future passengers: Pipe down and deal with the delays politely. Most Americans will read this as a cautionary tale and take care to wait patiently through agonizing delays. It's not, after all, the fault of a particular crew member or baggage worker if an entire flight is delayed. To which we say: Screw that. Air travel in this country is an unmitigated nightmare. If you're a real New Yorker, you'll raise hell if you are unfairly or stupidly delayed. When we read the headline on this story in the morning, we immediately knew it must be a flight headed to New York — and we couldn't have been more proud. Bless you, you poor, poor passengers. We would have been right there with you, giving a Bronx cheer. We'd have even used our BlackBerry through takeoff and left cashew wrappers in the seat pocket in front of us. On purpose." - Mood:amused

| Does anyone have any suggestions for jobs that would be pretty much exclusively on the weekend (with maybe a weeknight or two?) I work 40 hours a week and have other stuff at least a few nights per week after work.
I have tried retail places and, I think partially because it's summer, there doesnt seem to be a need for that.

| i need some advice on broadway shows. i know one can do rush tickets, i've done this a couple times and had a good time, but is there another way to get discount tickets that i maybe don't know about? columbia gets us discounted tickets, but the shows they're offering right now are lame. i'd like to see ave q or legally blonde if that helps.
thanks!
*aside from TKTS btw, which i don't think is all that cheap..

| Anyone else seen the advert on TV for Domino's Gotham City Pizza? Apparently, an excessive slathering of pepperoni is somehow implicit of NYC. Add to that their "Brooklyn Style" pizza, etc, and its pretty clear that the Michigan-based Domino's Corporation is working the NYC tie-in as a marketing gimmick. I really feel sorry for all those poor middle-Americans who don't know any better than to think that Domino's pizza is somehow representative of NYC pizza as a whole! So on to my point... which pizza place in NYC is your favorite and why? | |

| Though I no longer have my awesome mod hat, I am here as a mod to say that if at any time you feel as if you're being unfairly attacked by someone else in this community and you don't want to resolve it with that person directly, you can come to either nemesisbecoming or myself and we'll take care of it for you. sternel and angledge, our tag-updaters, also know how to get a hold of us and after either LJ's messaging service or by emailing [username]@livejournal.com for those of us who have paid accounts (that's the other three; not me) we will look over the situation and determine a reasonable course of action. Thank you. | |

| So I have an apartment and everything set but I don't really know New York.
What is around 54th and Broadway in Midtown? How is the neighborhood? Whats good? Whats bad? What is there to do? Cheap is ideal, as I'm a poor student, but I am a bit flexible. I'll have a week to explore and find good take out, hang outs and coffee.
Thanks!!
(Please don't mind the glbtq tag. It added itself and does not with to come off. For those who ask it is not a relevant tag to this post.)

| I know that they are giving away tickets at the DHL event at the Jacob Javits Center on Friday for Bon Jovi. Does anyone know if you need to be attending this event to get the tickets, or can you just show up and get tickets? I tried contacting the javits center, but no reponse yet.

| (I looked in the tags but didn't see anything for roommate referrals). Seriously, this is insane. I have been homeless for nearly three months. I have scoured Craigslist, sent out hundreds of emails and get no responses. Why is it so hard to find a room to rent in New York City? And what's with all the cat-hate??? I'm 46 years old, not a fuddy-duddy, good sense of humor, great references, and financially responsible. I have pretty basic needs: a decent sized room (10 x 14 or larger, for which I'm willing to pay a decent price), no smoking (of anything - i am severely allergic to cigarettes and 420), queer-friendly and I need to be able to bring my two cats. (If you know anyone looking, here's my post on Craigslist.) But all I get are responses from weirdo guys with flop houses in Brooklyn. Has anyone on here ever tried any kind of roommate referral service in NYC? What about Rainbow Roommates? Are there any others? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. | A friend of mine found an adorable parakeet on the Upper East Side and took it in. Unfortunately, she can't keep it because it scares the heck out her chihuahua. I have a soft spot for abandoned animals; however, I also have a cat and a very small apartment. If you can provide a good home for a friendly parakeet (or if you recently lost your budgie on the UES), let me know or contact my friend through her Craigslist posting here. | |

| Hi. I will be visiting and checking out NY September 8-October 5th...and I am looking for a place to stay? Where is a decent place to live...not too expensive for such a short duration? I don't think I can afford hotels for a month.
Any suggestions? Any would be greatly appreciated.

| This is ridiculous.
The basement has flooded. Twice. The first time, my landlord sent over some guys three or four days later to take care of it. The walls also totally molded over and they "fixed" that by scraping off the visible mold and repainting the walls. The mold came back in a matter of days and about two weeks later my apartment flooded a second time. After this happened, my landlord sent the same guys over and they spent a day putting in cement and they took out some of the walls(not all of them) and replaced them with new wood. They also did their little "scrape off the mold, repaint and assume that it won't come back" routine. There is also a section of my wall where they did nothing to the mold. I should make it clear that when I mean mold I mean it's over every single wall in both my roommates and mines bedroom, in our living room, and it's ruined a lot of our clothes/shoes and I think it's affecting our mattresses as well. Every time it's come back its gotten worse and as of next Monday we will have been living it in for a month.
We're discussing moving out at this point. Yesterday he came by and the floor was wet and he basically told my roommate that he didn't know what to do to fix it. He said that if we wanted to break the lease and find a new place we could, which I know is ridiculous because it's completely his obligation as the landlord to fix it for us, but I honestly think that this point that it might just be simpler to get our deposits back and leave before it gets any worse. I guess my question is whether anyone has ever dealt with a situation similar to this and what have you done? I am going to ask in addition to getting my deposit back that he compensate my roommate and I for the items we lost, but I have a feeling I might have to drag that to small claims court. Thanks dudes and ladies.
