Hogwarts Day Camp
(this is a forward from my friend coleen. please contact her at coleen@bust.com if you are interested.)
Hey, friends, colleagues and friends of friends,
There are several paid positions open for staff at Summer at Hogwarts Day Camp for this year, and even more fabulous volunteer opportunities. Camp is two weeks this year, Monday through Friday, June 2-6 and 9-13, for campers ages 5-13 (or, entering grades 1-8).
Paid staff positions (for folks 18 and over):
*Heads of House - $350 per week - 8:30-3:00 each day of camp, and some prep time. These folks each head up a Hogwarts House, supervising and facilitating group-building for a mixed age set of about ten campers. They are also asked to teach at least two subjects, which could include Quidditch, Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, Divination, History of Magic, Arithmancy, Astronomy, Herbology, Muggle Studies, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, or something we haven't thought of yet... Committing for both weeks is ideal, but working just one is negotiable.
*Guides - $9 per hour - Three are needed from 8:30-3:00 each day of camp, one is needed each day from 7:30-8:30 and from 3-6PM for before & after care, no prep time. These folks each work with one of our three age groups (6 & 7; 8-10; 11-13), escorting them to their classes and assisting them with activities and lessons. Someone who could commit to all of the two weeks would be excellent, but one or two day helpers are welcome, too.
Volunteer Opportunities (for folks 14 and older):
*ELFs - 8:30-3:00 each day of camp. This is a position especially for high school age youth. Each house needs one to three ELFs to keep things fun and interesting. ELFs take direction from their Heads of House and help out with all activities. They are the Quidditch referees. Email for an ELF application.
*Guest Professors - Days and hours vary - many are needed! Come spend as much of camp as you can with us, even if you have only your lunch hour to give, stepping into character and sharing your skills. Running around playing active games, cooking, growing things, playing show and tell with your pets, arts & crafts, creating a rock band with kids, playing theater games, creative writing - can be also known as Quidditch, Edible Transfiguration, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Transfiguration, Wizard Rock, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Spell Crafting...
*Ambience Specialists - There are many ways to do this. Creating set pieces, decorating the space during the weekend prior to camp, working on costumes for campers and staff, visiting camp mid-day as a Hogwarts style character, performing as a street musician, magician or storyteller during our opening morning marketplace at Diagon Alley... And of course, assisting with take-down and clean up at camp's end.
*Go-fer(s) - We'll need at least one person on hand to run errands, picking up last minute supplies and just generally helping out.
So, yeah, lots to do. Let me know what sounds good to you, and please pass this call on to anyone you'd recommend. Staff & volunteers alike will be generously supplied with chocolate daily.
Thanks! Coleen
