Vivid Motion, Inc., Portland’s “innovative and kinda quirky dance company”, will premiere Eclipse, featuring new dances by emerging and established choreographers, July 18, 19 & 20th, at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland.

Anchoring this evening of dance is Director MJ Emerson’s interpretation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. In 2008 this iconic album celebrates its 35th anniversary since its release, and is Emerson’s inspiration for the journeys of three characters: Alice (of Wonderland fame), the Prodigal Son, and the Soldier; a universal, timeless hero. Using minimal set and costume pieces, the stories of these three characters abstractly intertwine and blend to the pulsing energy of On the Run, the vocal styling featured in The Great Gig in the Sky, and the thought provoking lyrics of Us & Them, to mention just a few of the album’s nine tracks.

Tickets - $12 General / $10 student / $5 children

Fool's Mansion in Salem - grand reopening bash july 26th!!!

As you probably know, the Fool's Mansion in Salem has been one of the finest alternative clothiers in the northeast for over a dozen years, finding itself in the same sort of fashion conversations as Hubba Hubba and Gypsy Moon in Cambridge. They specialize in fine gothic and renaissance inspired clothing from top makers and designers such as Shrine NYC, with tons of accessories and choices. Founding owner John Flaherty has been a fixture in the Salem scene for many years, but decided to retire a few months ago after 30 years of retail business.

Newlyweds Matt and Mara Kochaba have purchased the store and stock, and have been working exhaustively with veteran store manager Christine for the last few months to update and remodel the shop. Their mission has been to keep the vision of quality, art, and style that Fool's Mansion customers have come to expect and love - while adding newer flavors and independent designers to the repertoire.

The Fool's Mansion will hold a Grand Reopening Bash on saturday July 26th, 2007. There will be giveaways and activities all day, followed by an instore dance party featuring dark mixmaster dj addambombb (of Vampire's Masquerade & Salem Witches' Ball fame) at 7pm. The festivities on saturday will be preceded by a ribbon cutting ceremony with Kimberly Driscoll, the Mayor of Salem, on friday afternoon.

After this Sunday, July 13th, Sanctuary will be relocated to another venue. The management at our current location, the Dark Lady, has decided to change the format of several of their events, including Sanctuary. An official announcement will be made shortly regarding the relocation once more details have been confirmed.

We would like to thank all of the staff at the Dark Lady who have been supportive of us in the year and a half they were our home. We'd also like to thank our loyal patrons and all of the bands, DJs, and entertainers that have helped make our night a success.

We look forward to continuing to bring you the best in goth, industrial and EBM at our new location.

We are organizing a small picnic and photo shoot at Madame Sherri's in nearby Chesterfield, NH. We will meet at the Riverside Plaza/NH Liquor Store between noon and 12:15. For directions click this link and check out our blog on MySpace.

Models: dress your gothic and industrial best! Photographers: bring business cards so we can network!

The picnic is a potluck event. Bring enough food for yourself, your guests and maybe one or two other people. There's no admission...just bring food, yourself and some friends. After the photo shoot there will be a few hours of down time for folks to explore the area a bit. Ask any of our staff and we'll point you to the best places to eat, drink, swim and enjoy some window shopping.

At midnight we'll call you all together and you can haggle with potential buyers/traders/sellers. At the very least you'll get exposure. At the very best you might come home with some amazing art.

Please note: due to space limitations please don’t bring more than two large pieces of art, or anything absolutely huge. There will be a table set up for smaller pieces of work.
