LiveJournal Newbie Lounge

Welcome!

LiveJournal is an ever-growing online community made up of, run by, and paid for entirely by the people who use it. You can read our journals, comment with your thoughts, and participate in communities, groups of LiveJournal users that share a common interest. It all starts with creating an account on LiveJournal!

Getting Started

Once you have created an account, you're ready to post your very first entry. You can either use our web page to post or download a client program for your computer.

For your first post we suggest that you write a little bit about yourself, what you like and dislike, if you have your own website, etc etc. Letting people know who you are and what you like goes a long way to starting lasting relationships.

Interact

LiveJournal is a thriving online community, and as such there are literally thousands of opportunities to meet new friends. “But how do I meet these thousands of people?” you ask. Here are a few tips to get you started:

You should also be sure to check out the News and add it to your friends page to keep up with the site happenings.

Personalize

  • Customize

All LiveJournal users have the ability to choose from several different styles at the Customize Journal page. One of the benefits of being a paid user is having the ability to create and edit your own personal styles and not be limited to using the system styles.

  • User Pictures

A user picture is an image that you select to represent yourself on LiveJournal. In order for you to use an image as your user picture, it must meet the requirements listed in this FAQ. If you need some help with creating or editing an image to fit the requirements, we have a friendly userpics team that is willing to help you.

Once you have an image that fits all the criteria, you can upload it from your hard drive or from the web. If you have more questions concerning your user pictures, you may find these FAQs helpful.

Need Help?

If you have any questions that aren't answered on our main Support page or in the Frequently Asked Questions section of our site, you can submit a Support request.

LiveJournal has a team of volunteers who are willing to answer your questions and your Support request will remain open until you receive a correct answer and confirm that your problem is resolved or until you close it yourself.
