Please recommend a good textbook/course of Italian
Always wanted to learn Italian. Can anyone recommend a good textbook/course? I am pretty visual, I don't think I can get much out of a "course on tapes". I've never tried learning a foreign language any other way but though a good old fashioned class at school. But that was long ago and I don't have time for that now. Is there anything new/improved/miraculous out there? Will be grateful for your help! Current Mood: Italian |

your opinion is needed! Hi , I'm writing a graduation thesis about individualism in French and English-speaking countries now and I'd really appreciate if you'd give me your opinion: list at least three assosiations which come up to ur head when u hear the word "individualism". Please, answer in French if you are from a French speaking country and in English if you are from an English speaking country
Thank you a lot for your help :)

Future progressive passive voice
Hi, my name is Eli and i'll be glad if anyone helps me. Is it possible to use passive voice with future progressive and future perfect progressive tenses? For example, how should i turn the sentence "I will be washing my car from 11 to 3 tomorrow" into passive voice? "My car wil..." Thanks in advance and sorry for any mistakes. x-posted: grammarpolice, foreignlanguage, one_language |

I've always wanted to be fluent in Spanish. My dad is Dominican, but he's always very busy, and was when I was little so I didn't grow up just knowing the language. I know things here and there from him, but I wasn't brought up bilingual or anything close to it. I took Spanish in all four years of high school, and loved it very much, but am not taking anything in college. I go to a community college and taking their "Conversational Spanish" and "Elementary Spanish" would just be a waste of time according to my Spanish teacher in high school. I want to be fluent in this language, I love it so much. It would really help my nursing career, and I would love to be able to talk to my Dominican family. I've tried to keep penpals, but it's so hard to find someone who is really committed to learning English like I am to learning Spanish, so they always fall apart. I don't really have the money or time to study abroad, I'm really focused on getting my nursing degrees as soon as possible. More than anything, I want to raise my kids in two languages. Is there anything you guys can suggest? What is a realistic goal for becoming fluent, time-wise? How did some of you become fluent? Did any of you teach yourselves out of a textbook or use programs? xposted everywhere |

swedish.
just recently i've become more interested with the swedish language. it seems a relatively simple language to learn and a few verbs and words resemble some german and english words too. i speak german too. i've done lots of research in the past week to see if anybody in my city offers swedish tuition however i came to no avail. :( the only way i could do it is to study swedish at melbourne university. I live in adelaide in south australia. so yeah if anyone has any pointers for me to start learning swedish, i'd be eternally grateful. failing that, i guess i'll call up IKEA :P hehe. Thank you. |

Hi there)
We're two students from Moscow, English majors, in the middle of linguistic research at our university. We need several native speakers of English to fill in either of two short tests (or both of em :-). Your help would be invaluable. We can't do it ourselves, 'cause only native speakers possess the needed sense of the 'mother' language. test 1test 2Please, could you assess the propriety of the sentences given in the tests? P.S. Please feel encouraged to turn to us if you need any help with Russian in return :-) |

Exchange of Russian for English and Russian for Dutch
Hello! My name is Katja. I am 25, Russian. Now I am living and doing my PhD in the Netherlands. It would be great to find somebody in Amsterdam who wants to learn Russian in exchange for English or Dutch. Actually I need to improve my English and looking for any English native speakers here in Amsterdam to have an advantage to meet. Another thing - I also want to start speaking Dutch (I already can understand some basic phrases because I've followed a course of Dutch for absolutely beginners). My e-mail is e-ermilovaREMOVE_THIS@yandex.ru. |

tongues!
Hi all! I'm actually a physics major at UNC-Chapel Hill, but I love learning languages. I would love for someone to help teach me Greek. I could teach Chinese (modern standard Mandarin) and Latin to anyone interested. I also know a bit of Portuguese but wouldn't be of any help beyond beginner levels. |
