Week 7

I sucked today. I started my 25 minute run.. and made it through about 15-18 minutes of it, not sure exactly, then I just quit. I'm blaming it on a crappy mood and insane humidity. I was drenched with sweat! I'll get back out there on Saturday and do it right!

Day 1, Week 7

Well, I've made it through Week 6 and began Week 7 today. This week is 25 minute runs each day. I'm going slowly, but I'm making it through! In three weeks I'll be able to run for 30 minutes straight! Once that's accomplished, I'm going to work on speeding up.

I'm loving this, by the way. It's difficult, but so worth it.

Day 2, Week 6

Wow. Today was difficult! Today's run was 5 minute warmup, 10 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, 10 minutes running, 5 minute (or more) cooldown. The first 10 minute run was okay. I think I maintained a decent pace (for me anyways), but when I started the second 10 minute run, I just felt so drained! It was very difficult to make it through the entire 10 minutes, and I know by the end of it I was going extremely slow, but I managed to make it through the entire 10 minutes.

I hope Day 3, which is 25 minutes of running, goes better than today did.

Day 1, Week 6

Okay, really it turned out to be Day 1, Week 5 again, because about half way into it, by some mysterious happenings, my podcast switched to week 5 from week 6. I just don't get how it happened, but I realized it when he said we could stop after only 5 minutes of running the second time instead of 8. Oops. Difference? I didn't run the three extra minutes the second run. I think I'll still be okay to follow Day 2, Week 6 on Thursday.

My days are a little off this week. Usually I run on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, but yesterday after I got up and was actually beginning the first run, I felt really ill. So I decided to put it off until today. I'm glad I did. I was feeling much better this morning.

I'm so proud of myself for getting this far! Though it's really hard to believe that it's been 5 full weeks already.

Day 3, Week 5

I just completed Week 5 of couch to 5k! Today was 5 minutes warmup, 20 minutes running, 5 minute cooldown. My first run without walking intervals. It was super challenging, and I went pretty slowly, but I made it all the way through the 20 minute session! Yay me! By the way, humidity sucks, especially when you're trying to run or jog or whatever you want to call it.

Anyone know the difference between running and jogging, besides speed?

Hi everyone. Just joined this community today.

Earlier this week I faced my fears of walking/jogging in public in front of people. I had told my boyfriend I wanted to go on a walk and he told me he was going to take me to the Track @ his old high school. We're heading there and I could already see a TON of people outside. There was a soccer game going on and lots of people walking the track for exercise. I instantly became nervous and told him I didnt' want to be around a lot of people...that I felt foolish and ashamed of my plus size body and didn't want people look at me while I attempted to exercise.

He expressed to me that I need to face my fear, that I shouldn't feel ashamed because I am doing something healthy for myself and myself only. Everyone else there is doing the same thing.

SO...we go. I began walking at a fast pace. After a couple times around the track we begin jogging from 1 spot to another. Then walk it out. Then jog. Then walk. Then jog. Then walk. We completed 10 laps which = 2 1/2 miles before we called it quits.

I told my boyfriend I want to continue doing this for the remainder of the Summer. Tuesday & Thursdays are our walking/jogging days.

SO...since today is Thursday, I am meeting my boyfriend for yet another workout. I am excited this time because I know what to expect. I am going to aim for more jogging.

I need to gradually get my body back into the groove of jogging so I am starting off with a fast pace walk and move into a slight jog. I am not a runner. BUT I figure eventually I'll get used to even a light jog and can get into running...but that won't be for awhile.

I also need to practice my breathing when jogging. Eek.

I am aiming for 3 miles of walking/jogging today.

Hope everybody is doing well! Good luck on your exercises!

Today's run went well. I probably could have increased my pace some, because I was taking it pretty slowly, but I had a bit of a stomach ache and didn't want to push it.

I'm looking forward to Friday's run, 20 minutes straight! I know i can do it, but it won't be easy.

Today burned my muscles! But I did it! I ran super slow the second 5 minute run, because I was a bit too ambitious the first 5 minute run and started out too quickly. This is the first week where each run is different. Day 1 has 5 minutes runs and 3 minutes walks. Day 2 has 8 minute runs with 3 or 5 minute walks. Day 3 has a 20 minute run! Nervous, but looking forward to it.

I did Day 2 of Week 4 of Couch to 5k this morning. I so didn't want to get out of bed though. I didn't sleep well at all last night. So, when my alarm went off at 5:30am, I actually contemplated not getting up and putting Day 2 of until tomorrow. But then I told myself, "No excuses," and I got my lazy ass out of bed and got ready for Day 2, Week 4. Today was easier than Day 1, Week 4, but it was still pretty challenging. I just keep thinking how awesome it will be to run a 5k. I can't wait! That in itself gives me motivation to get out there each morning.

yay for running.

cross posted to my lj.

couch to 5k.. again

So, I've started Couch to 5k again. It's really a wonderful program to get back into running again. And boy have I been out of it. Today I completed Week 2 of the program. It was pretty difficult, but I think that the level of difficulty had a lot to do with my mood. I've been extremely preoccupied lately. But the point is, I went out there and did it!

How is everyone else doing? Still running?

Anyone have any breathing tips when running? I'm pretty out of shape, so breathing is one of the more difficult challenges in this right now. I try to stick with inhaling for 4 counts and exhaling for 4 counts, but my body just wants to take over and take quick shallow breaths. Any suggestions?

Getting started

Hi, I’ve just signed up for the Race for life and I’m now looking for communities about running to chat in.

I’ve taken part in the Race for life for the past two years but when I signed up this year it was different. I’m 3.5st lighter to start with and I’ve quite smoking. It took me 50minutes to complete the race the first time, 40 the second and I’m hoping for under 30 minutes this time. I know the time isn’t important, but I’m getting people to sponsor me so I want show them that I have trained and worked hard for this.

I have 22 weeks to train and see how many people I can drag along for training sessions with me. Yes, I am that irritating person that calls you on a Sunday morning asking if you want to come for a run. But you know you’ll feel better for it!

Unfortunately I hurt my back a few weeks ago and I’m only just back to the gym. So it might be another week or two before I start training properly.

Anyone else from the UK doing the Race for life this year?
