| About: | John M. "Mike" Ford died on 25th September 2006, much mourned by family, friends and admirers. He was a novelist, poet and wit, author of The Dragon Waiting, the poem 110 Stories and much else of real worth including two Star Trek novels, but he was so much more than that. He had a mercurial and inventive wit, improvising complex verse forms and devastating satirical putdowns with an ease that was sometimes scary. For some crucial Ford links go to Making Light. "Well. From Elise: Welcome, everybody, no matter when you read this; welcome to this place, which is going to be somewhere to talk about him and his work. Whether you're a friend, a reader, an old gaming buddy, a colleague in any of the many ways possible, an admirer, somebody who would be an admirer if the stories didn't confuse the heck out of you, a seeker of footnotes, a poetry enthusiast, somebody doing a paper for school, or something else entirely, welcome. * * * * The memorial service, reception, and wake for John M. Ford will all be held on Friday, October 27. All are welcome. The memorial service and reception will be at: The First Universalist Church 3400 Dupont Ave S. Minneapolis MN 55408 612-825-1701 Directions from within the neighborhood can be found here. The service will begin at 2 pm. Four of Mike’s closest friends will deliver eulogies; in addition, some limited time will be available during the service for other people to share memories, or favorite short quotations from Mike’s writing. The reception will be held from 4 to 5:30 pm in the social hall of the church, right below the sanctuary. Please, no flowers. *** In the evening (starting at 7 pm), you are invited to gather for a wake hosted by Patrick and Teresa Nielsen Hayden in suite 215 at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel, Minneapolis South, which used to be the Radisson South. We will also accept contributions for drinks; any contributions which are not needed for drinks or hotel space will be passed along to the good causes below.
