Speaking of cars Must show geekiness: - Finished ALL events in Burnout Paradise, earning my ELITE driver's license. All cars in the game can now be painted gold. - I also rule all roads both time and damage wise, completing the game 100%. All cars in the game can now be painted platinum. All that's left for me to do is finish two sets of online challenges (pokes bander and pegla) so I can get 101% and earn me a free Burnout T-shirt claim bragging rights! :D |

One candidate makes history... another makes toxic fish. First off, I suggest you all see Barack Obama's speech last night, if you haven't already seen it. It was truely a historic moment. On the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech, Barack Obama moved closer to the White House and united the Democratic Party, who ultimately chose to judge a black man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. It couldn't have been a better convention, not only for the Democratic Party, but for the United States of America. That said, in the off-chance that you're a disgruntled Hillary P.U.M.A. who really didn't want to support a potential president with experience after all, and who wants the Vice President of a 73-year-old man to have, say, 1/6th the amount of legislative experience as that other candidate they complained so much about, who wants a staunchly anti-choice candidate, who can't wait for their candidate to scandalously lie to the voters, who wants their candidate to have a pro- " poison America's fisheries with toxic waste" environmental record, with close ties to BIG OIL and BIG MINING... And, who wants their candidate to have a pair of ovaries... You might be interested to know that John McCain has named two-year Alaskan governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. If you love ovaries to the exception of everything else, you'll love Palin! Just don't eat the salmon. |

Playing pool and traffic jams I survived my first month on the new job. First week was hectic, since we tried to score a huge project, of which we should hear the result next monday. I'd like it if we get the contract, considering how hard we all worked on the proposition (one Tuesday it was midnight before I got home - that earned me a whole free day ;)). So my colleages are fun, quite open about their hobbies and in the way they act at the office. I've already found a comic lover, two people who watch anime (one of whom also played rpgs in the past), one painter, and someone interested in Japan. Tuesday I'm going to bring the new issues of AniWay to show off. *grin* Already quite a few people asked me about (or wanted to see some of) my drawings - I'd almost start to be shy. During lunch break half of the time I play a game of pool. I'm not very good at it yet, but it's fun to see how quickly you improve. Some of the guys are rather good at it, but I've won a few times already. Friday evening is also pool time, since most people at the office stick around for a bit of talk and a beer/soda and crisps. I'm quite amused - it's a good way to get to know your colleages. Anyways, the rest of my life has been on hold a bit, because of the energy it takes out of me to travel this much (50 mins in the morning, 1:30 of traffic jams in the evening) and to adapt to a new job. 'Inwerken', jaja... Tomorrow I'll try to catch up on some drawing (I'm making myself one of those pixel ID's - everyone should have one! :D) and maybe even some writing. Sunday is a big family birthday celebration, which though undoubtedly cozy will be draining as well. Ahhhh, I'm SO going to go to bed early today. ^_____^` Current Mood: tired |

Body language of doubt Watch John McCain's hands in the first minute and on in this video. Very interesting! I can't watch this video with sound (yet) because I'm at work... but his body language is very interesting. |

Not feeling so well Too bad for my vacation, I've not been feeling so well. I could blame a ton of things. It could be the heat, or the butter, or the cheese, the salt, not enough to drink, the bread, the bad bed, the chocolate, the bottled water or even the fact that I haven't had a coffee since we left the Netherlands. I actually have been trying to kick that bucket. Yes. Truth is, I just felt bad today. We were going to take our bicycles and go to Tigaki or walk down Psalidi just like two years ago. In stead, NoKey cycled to the hot springs (10 kilometers of easy going and the last three just going up and down the mountain road) and had fun on his own while I felt bad, stayed in bed, watched the Other Boleyn Girl for the second time and read a book. (More about the Other Boleyn Girl later, I suspect I could find plenty to rant about there. I'm just a huge Natalie Portman fan. Squee for the smallest star in Hollywood - I would look like a giant compared to her indeed.) But now that it's cooling down and I forced myself to drink three large glasses of water and had some cream crackers (snack #1 on Kos) I am feeling slightly better. My back is worse for wear and I'm still very tired, but I feel fit enough to find a lovely fresh fish taverna and have some fish or possibly moussaka. I haven't actually felt very hungry since we arrived. The heat takes your appetite away of course. Nobody ever warned me that it would be replaced by a feeling of mild queasiness or an upset stomach. Anything to not be hungry, it seems. I hate the fact my body has let me down. I do have adequate battery to put some things down in writing and then NoKey will want his turn at the poolside wireless, and then it's time for dinner. It's nearly dinnertime, after all. You Are Spaghetti with Pesto
|

Compared to most people, you have complex tastes. You're a bit of a walking contradiction.
You like a little bit of everything, even if the things you like don't go together.
You aren't picky at all. You can find something to like about almost anything.
You don't judge on appearances alone. You like to experience something before you judge it.

So I was feeling a little blue and decided that what I needed more than anything to cheer me up was yet more books. :cP So I spent about an hour in town today and came home with 5 new beauties that ought to keep me occupied for at least the next little while. One of them is called "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," by Jonathan Safran Foer and it's a mystery involving a 9-year-old boy named Oskar whose father was killed on 9/11. Oskarfinds a key that belonged to his father and he decides to try and find which lock in all of New York it opens. It's absolutely mesmerizing so far...I'm only a couple of chapters into it, but I can tell I'm going to end up finishing this one in a day or so. It's beautifully written, full of imagery and imagination. I also bought a collection of short stories by Susanna Clarke (who also wrote Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell), "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," "The Alchemyst," the first book in a series about Nicholas Flamel (hello, HP world, I can't quit you!), and what looks like a kick-ass ghost story called "The Keep." So yeah. I'm happy. I'm easy like that. :c) Current Mood: thoughtful |

Recap ...splendid I know Summer does not officially end until the solstice in late September up here in the Northern Hemisphere, but in the USA and Canada, this Labor/Labour day does mark the unofficial end of Summer, and it has been one hell of a good one for me.
The weather was superb, hardly any really hot days. I believe La Crosse only hit 90f (32c) twice all summer, which is incredible and wonderful. We had our share of uncomfortable days in the 80's with humidity, but such is life east of the Rockies, we do not live in the land of beautiful low dewpoints those folks in the Rockies and west coast get in summertime. It really has been splendid weather. I hate hot summers almost as much as I hate brutal snowy tundra like winters, which is why I just smile when people tell me to move to the south to escape winters. With my job in the plant business, hot summers are brutal, I guess I would not mind them as much if I worked in an air conditioned building or did not have to be out in the heat, but I do and I long for Pacific Northwest coolness.
As far as family and friends, it has been a splendid summer as well. I have socialized my little heart out. Swany and her kids, Favorite Cousin and the gang, The Sun, The Moon, Tekla, Kiki, Wizard, my folks, Zee, Lurlene, Ica, Chaos, Big N and on and on. Good times, lasting memories, and smiles.
My garden was/is splendid as well. I have pumpkins ripening, heaps of delicious tomatoes, gourds a plenty, wee watermelons, every kind of flower a blooming to make me smile and lots of contentment with it all.
In the valley, the Oaks and Walnuts had a good summer. My dear beautiful Golden Rod is glowing ( I continue on my mission to enlighten folks that golden rod rarely causes allergies, it is the far less showy but allergy sufferers nightmare Ragweed plant that blooms at the very same time which gives the much showier golden rod a bad bad name.), the various self seeded morning glories live up to their name this time of year. The New Zealand Mirabalis scent the warm evenings beside the cabin with their heavenly fragrance. The Mina Lobata could not be more vivid as it sprawls up and over the Autumn Helenium and Burnette. My tiny autumn colored Persian Carpets Zinnias are blooming their wee little hearts out.
Well, my waxing poetic shall have to end here, as work calls and such. I wanted to capture this moment in time of contentment and it feels like I have to me.
Ps. Don't let me forget to move the Rhubarb. |
