    argh
UPS man, why did you not leave my package at the door?  I got home 5 minutes later. Argh!!!  Normally UPS leaves packages at the door if I'm not there...not sure why this was any different.  It definitely isn't the most expensive thing I've ordered from B&H...so maybe it's just a different UPS guy.  :-(  Anyway, this pissed me off way more than it should have...maybe because I got here in time to see the brown truck drive away, but not in time to get my package.  It's just a spare battery for my camera and I don't really need it until next week so I can charge it before our beach trip.  I am counting down the days.  I need a vacation.

    This Weekend.
So I've made a decision. It's high time I start living how I planned to since about a month ago, when life changed.

This weekend will be the start of it. I've committed to doing something some have called reckless, others have called adventurous, and yet others have called difficult. I'm being intentionally vague (Hey, it's what I do ;)) so that if I chicken out, then after Saturday when you all will graciously remember to ask me, "So, how did it go?" I can feel horribly embarrassed if I have to admit I didn't go.

Lately I've been living vicariously through other people's tales of fun, hoping somehow it would just magically rub off on me so I wouldn't have to go experience it myself. But no more. This particular activity will be my adventure and mine alone. For once I will have a story to tell about the interesting thing I did 'last weekend'.

Yeah okay, I may be building it up to sound a little more exciting than it actually is, but gosh darnit, this activity has been evading me and mocking me, reminding me how intimidated I am by it. But no more! I am going to do it, and that's final. And I'm going to do it 100% on my own, no other person there to be my crutch or tell me it's okay if I back out. I'm not backing out.

At other times throughout the weekend, there may be a charity concert, an African drum circle, and belly dancing involved.

I'll get through this weekend, and show myself I can be how and who I want to be. It's my choice and I can do it if I want to. So there.

there's guys been awake since the second world war.
I am so, so, so sleep deprived lately and I don't even care. Life is so good lately. I'm almost afraid to say so in case something takes a bad turn! So much has changed for the better for me in the past few months. I'm in school now and it's going awesomely so far. This shit is not as hard as I remember it, and so far I'm keeping up with the class with no issues at all, and then some. Next semester I'm definitely going to ante up on the classload; this isn't just doable, it's fun.

    More me, me, me! )

I mean, something could change for the worst at any time, here. But there's so much good right now, I figure it'll balance out. (Knock wood.)

    Lake Biwa Zero Plane

Lake Biwa Zero Plane, originally uploaded by YAYAYAYAYAY!.

This plane was in Lake Biwa until the 1970s when they finally decided to fish it out. I wonder where in Biwa it was located.

I really want a DSLR but I know I will likely never be able to afford (ie: justify buying one for myself) one :( Even if I did have one, I wonder if I would use it enough to justify the cost.

Anyone on here have a DSLR?

Ok, so my computer just completely shut down and wouldn't recognize the fact that it was plugged in or that the battery is full.

    Weird.

A few minutes later (after pulling my laptop apart and putting it back together again, including removing the RAM and switching which slot they're in and removing the harddrive and reattaching it) it decides to recognize power again and starts right up.

It didn't overheat (I can tell when it's going to do that) and the power supply obviously works.

Does anyone have any thoughts towards what might have happened?

    I hate mornings
    My day so far--

6:00 Alarm beeps at me. In my sleepy state, the snooze feature is totally beyond me. I turn off alarm.

8:30 Wake up to realization that class is starting that very moment. Feel slight panic.

8:41 Leave my apartment and sprint to the bus stop, certain that the bus will leave me

8:42 Thank the fates that I got a super-nice bus driver this morning.

9:00 Hear the bell tower ring as I enter the building to my class.

    9:02 Arrive at class.

So, 32 minutes from waking to class. Not bad! Also not an awesome start to a semester. I rarely improve in punctuality as time goes by.

Why did I sign up for an 8:30 class with mandatory attendance???

Amber's Rules of Life, Part 1
So. Lately I've been trying to re-establish some old good habits I had, and add on some new good habits. I feel like I used to live somewhat by a "code of honor". Even if I never wrote it down, there were always some rules I'd established to ensure I was being as compassionate and honorable as possible. Sure, I failed sometimes. *^_^ But I tried!

Here are some new and old Rules of Life I hope to live by, now.

    Rules of Life, Part 1

    Rules I've Exercised Recently:

    1. When you are walking down the sidewalk and others pass you, make an effort to smile at them, even if they awkwardly look away.
    2. When you find out somebody does good deeds, volunteers, votes, etc., even if you don't know them - talk to them and say "Thanks!"
    3. Stand on one foot whenever possible. It's fun, and helps you practice balance.
    4. Apologize to strangers if you are responsible, even partially, for upsetting them.
    5. Give everything (within reason!) one try. Give many things a second try. Sorry tomatoes, this doesn't apply to you.

    Weekend Food; Comic books
We ate Eamonn's (fish + chips) yesterday for 2 meals. That is some damn fine fried fish. We also scouted the actual location of the PX (a speakeasy - "Look for the blue light") and hopefully we'll get to drink there before it makes it to the big screen. Bourdain went to both Eamonn's and PX for No Reservations, but it hasn't aired yet to my knowledge.

And on another note - I can check off Lucifer and Y: The Last Man, having completed the series. I'm up on JMS's Silver Surfer and Thor; I'm caught up on Crossing Midnight (Carey); and Mike Carey (Lucifer) has turned the X-Men into something good again. Yay, comics! I can't wait for the Next X-Men Legacy and Fables #75 (War & Pieces 3 of 3 - the book is late and should be coming to my store when I leave for Vegas :( ).

    Last Lecture
I'm a little late at watching the Last Lecture, but I decided today was the day. It was a good day for it because I've been feeling cranky and annoyed with certain people that I know, so this message was a good one for me to hear today:

Find the best in everybody. One of the things that Jon Snoddy as I said told me, is that you might have to wait a long time, sometimes years, but people will show you their good side. Just keep waiting no matter how long it takes. No one is all evil. Everybody has a good side, just keep waiting, it will come out.

This song: What TV show was it on? NOT MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS. A friend and I are convinced it was on some kids show but neither of us ever watched MMPR. Any clue? I figured I'd ask here before asking the general internets.

    Things
Justin's out playing a gig with his band.  I've seen them play so many times, and I'm tired of sitting by myself and watching their shows, so I've been taking a bit of a hiatus from going to them.  I like getting to bed at a decent hour.

We've been spoiling our cats.  Got a cat tree the other day...they love it.

I've been watching a little bit of the olympics.  The opening ceremonies were pretty impressive.  Gymnastics is one of my favorite things to watch.  I don't think the Chinese female gymnasts are 16.  They fake everything else, why not a couple passports, too?  I think it's really stupid that they revoked the visa of gold medalist Joey Cheek...who happens to be one of Justin's childhood friends.

I'm currently obsessed with Bleach (the anime).  Justin wasn't into it at first, but it's gotten more exciting, so now he's hooked.

I'm going to try and get back into archery.  It's a challenge due to my lack of a place to shoot.  There don't seem to be any archery clubs or ranges in the area...there is one club in Colfax, but that's about 40 minutes away and they don't even have an indoor range.  :-/  I will find a way.

    Sleepy...goodnight.
