What happens when one or more of our team members is cut off from the others -- or possibly from everyone -- or even everything -- for a while? What about from spouses or family members?
What happens when Abby or Tim is cut off from the Internet?
Or if you prefer, after a period of disconnection, for whatever reason, tell us about the reconnection. What brings it about, what fixes the problem or brings them back together? Is the reestablished connection stronger or weaker than it was before?

THINK FAST
One of the suggestions we received in response to this post was this one from shetiger:
Maybe push the 'flash' element a little more? Like the 38 Minutes challenge sga_flashfic did, where you only had that long to write. That way people maybe people would feel like they could just dash off something quick and easy.
So we're revisiting our previous Flash Challenge, except that this time you'll have 42 minutes -- the approximate length of one NCIS episode, minus commercials -- in which to write your story. You can edit a bit afterward, if you like, to tidy things up, but the story itself must be completed in no more than 42 minutes.
You can write anything you like; the only requirement for this challenge is the time limit. But if you're stumped for ideas, I invite you to play with some kind of list. Grocery list, things to pack before traveling, gift ideas, "bucket" list, new year's resolution list, pro and con list, forgiveness or confession list, or anything else you can think of.

There's only a bit over 48 hours left in the current challenge, and so far there have been NO responses. Last challenge there was only one.
Are y'all still out there? Anybody still interested in playing in this sandbox?
Speak up, people. If you want this comm to stay alive, what suggestions do you have for revitalizing it? Challenge ideas, special events, anything that comes to mind, please share it.
In the mean time, it's still not too late to write something for the current Virgin Challenge.
First-time NCIS flashfic writers, this one's for you! And if you're working on your first NCIS:LA fic? You, too! In either case, anything you write is automatically eligible.
And you NCIS veteran writers can take the "virgin" prompt literally or interpret it as creatively as you like. There have been a lot of first-times in our characters' lives, not just the sexual kind.

VIRGIN
It's time to stir things up on this comm.
We're back from hiatus, along with the show, so this is our challenge for first-timers: If you've never posted a challenge response to ncis_flashfic, we're talking to you. This is your engraved invitation to join in on the fun. Come on in! The water's fine, the fen are friendly, and there are two whole casts of characters waiting for you to have your way with them. You comm virgins are invited to write about anything that interests you; for this challenge, in your case, any topic is allowed since your own flashfic cherry-popping will satisfy the challenge requirement. However, you are invited to use the "Virgin" prompt as your inspiration, should you so choose.
Similarly, anyone writing her or his first ever NCIS:LA fic will automatically meet the challenge requirement.
Comm vets writing NCIS:TOS, there's room for you in this challenge, too. You can take the prompt literally and write about one of our team members losing his or her virginity -- or choosing not to -- or you can interpret it in any other sense (virgin forest, virgin territory, Virgin Atlantic Airways, the Virgin Islands) or metaphorically.
Go for it. Take them where they've never been before. Or if this is your first comm response or your first NCIS:LA fic, take yourself on a trip into virgin territory.

| ADMIN POST: NCIS LA is in... at least for now |

A couple of weeks ago we put up a poll asking whether this comm should include both NCIS:TOS and NCIS:LA.
We got 31 responses, and roughly 2/3 voted either "Yes" or "For the time being" while only a third or so voted "No."
Therefore we will allow fic responses for either NCIS or NCIS:LA as well as crossovers between the two shows.
This may change in the future, depending on how well the new show takes off and the volume of responses. Your moderators welcome and actively solicit your input! Please comment to this or any future Admin post with your opinion. |

The challenge is inspired by the return of the fall television premiere season with new NCIS:TOS episodes. You could springboard off this with stories about our team members' return from Los Angeles, or you could take off in a whole 'nother direction. Returning a punt or a kickoff on the football field; returning something lost, borrowed, or rented -- or failing to; many happy returns on the day; a good (or bad) return on investment; return from a tour of duty.
And if you're entirely without shame, you could make this particular mod very happy by unearthing one of the several possible puns. I'm just sayin'.
