 | 06:30 pm - On the Iron Bowl... I think JoePa said it best and it definitely can be applied to this game...
“When a team outgrows individual performance and learns team confidence, excellence becomes a reality.”-Joe Paterno
I hate that Ingram probably lost the Heisman for sure tonight (I can't argue against Colt McCoy winning it now), but when it comes down to it, I'd rather be considered for a National Championship than a Heisman...

| 11:49 pm - Notre Dame, Urban Meyer, Ryan Mallet I guess everyone has heard the rumors. But, who out there thinks that Urban Meyer might even contiplate the move from Florida to Notre Dame? I wouldn't understand that! Who would even think about taking that job right now? I understand that getting Meyer would require big money thrown his way but, who else would even be interested without big money? Would Notre Dame even be interested in trowing out that kind of money to get a big name and proven coach like him? After all they have to pay Weiss the rest of his contract.
Does anyone think that Ryan Mallet is good enough to enter the draft this year? I think he is the best pro style quarterback in the SEC. But, with having Tim Teboe, Colt McCoy, among others entering the draft, how high would he actually go? I think he should come back for his junior year. At that point he can possibly compete for the heisman and get a higher pic. I just don't see the thought of leaving after this year unless he goes in the lottery picks.

 | 05:48 pm The Big Ten leads all conferences with eight players on the Academic All-American team. Notably, six of the eight are All-Big Ten on the field as well.
And props to Tim Tebow, who's a repeat AAA. Say what you will about the media hype, but the kid is everything you want college football to be. I'm going to miss him.

 | 04:15 pm OK, schadenfreude aside, I would be VERY worried if I were a Michigan fan right now. Look at their schedule next year: seven games against teams that are currently bowl-eligible, and that doesn't include Connecticut, who will almost certainly gain eligibility next week. On the road at OSU, Penn State, and Notre Dame, and even the games against the bottom of the league (Indiana and Purdue) are away. There aren't many easy wins on this schedule, and that's before taking into account the massive losses they're going to suffer.
On offense, Michigan loses three of their starting linemen (plus key backup Perry Dorrestein), their top two running backs, and their top receiver. On defense (already the worst in the Big Ten), they lose their top lineman and, depending on how you count (Obi Ezeh doesn't seem to have played yesterday), almost their entire linebacking corps. This from a defense that's already so depleted that they're starting walk-ons. And that doesn't take into account the fact that Donovan Warren might leave early. Both kickers and the punter graduate as well.
To me, this looks like a 7-5 team at best. (I see losses to OSU, PSU, Iowa, and ND; wins against BG, UMass, Indiana, and Purdue; toss-ups with MSU, Illinois, UConn, and Wisconsin. The best-case scenario is based on splitting the toss-ups and upsetting a team they should lose to.) And while that will end the bowl drought, I don't think that's what Michigan fans mean when they say "progress". I think it's fair to say that a 7-5 season next year will get Rodriguez canned, so my question is, why wait? Cut your losses and start over now. Do you hold out and hope that Les Miles has another crappy season, or that one OK year isn't enough to get Harbaugh a promotion? Do you wait for the new AD? Thoughts?

 | 01:07 am - BCS Bowls With only one more week and the conference title games to play, I think we can make some pretty safe predictions about what teams are playing in which BCS bowls this year. Assuming there are no crazy upsets, here is what I've come up with:
NCG: Florida/Alabama winner vs. Texas
Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs. Oregon
Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Penn St.
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma St. vs. TCU
Sugar Bowl: Florida/Alabama runner up vs. Cincinnati
The bowl order this year is Orange, Fiesta then the Sugar, but the Sugar and Fiesta bowls will get first crack at the at-large teams by virtue of losing the SEC and Big 12 champs to the title game. And TCU gets the auto bid over Boise St. because they have the higher ranking.
Any disagreements? I really like all of these matchups, except for the Sugar Bowl. But that game is always terrible anyways.

 | 06:17 pm - LSU-Ole Miss Granted, I only watched the last minute of LSU-Ole Miss, but that was possibly the worst clock management I have ever seen. It was like Les Miles was asleep at the wheel. They left at least 20 seconds on the field by misuse of the time outs, and the third down play call was ridiculous.
Did they bring back JaMarcus Russell to play QB, because that is about how much awareness their QB had running into that sack, FWIW.
Epic fail. Current Mood: confused Current Music: CBS

KU investigates Mangino
My icon notwithstanding, this isn't really schadenfreude. I'm just wondering whether Mangino's old school methods would be this much of an issue if KU wasn't in a five-game losing streak.

 | 02:13 pm Bob Stoops to Notre Dame? seriously? I can't believe (some) OU fans even want him gone, but I'm mystified as to why he'd even consider it other than an even larger paycheck. Even with OU's struggles this year, their program is still in a much better position than Notre Dame.
Any ND or OU fans want to drop some knowledge here?
(Part of me wants to have Stoops go to ND so Oklahoma's stuck with a worse coach, though. Go Big Red.)

 | 05:51 pm - On behalf of all Trojan fans... I'm sorry. No wonder people hate us. In perhaps the most egregious example of terrible rankings that I've ever seen, Oregon is now three spots (AP poll) and SIX spots (Coaches' poll) behind USC despite:
1. Killing them only a week ago
2. Having the same record
3. Their two losses being to quality opponents
What the heck?
(Also, why is Ohio State ahead of USC in both polls?)
