Hello Nau students out there!

I'm a new NAU Grad student and I'm wondering how financial aid works (particularly loans). Does NAU apply the loan amount to the amount owed on the LOUIE account or do you have to pay the tuition and then the loan pays you back or....?
How quickly after you accept the fin aid awards do monies get disbursed?

Thanks in advance.

Right to Marry - Arizona

The Right to Marry campaign is an ongoing youth-led initiative to achieve marriage equality in the United States. In the past two years, most of our effort focused on New York State. This summer we are excited to expand our mission to Arizona, the first state to defeat a constitutional anti-marriage amendment. It returns on the ballot this November as Senator John McCain makes his run for the office of the President. It’s a great time to engage with Arizonans on issues of fairness for all Americans!

The Journey Team will walk 96 symbolic miles throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area – 96 is the number of years Arizona has been a state without equal protection for its LGBT citizens. They will stop at city halls to share their stories.

The Dialogue Team will bring the conversation of civics, faith, and equality to three important local communities: senior active adult complexes, Latter Day Saints congregations and state legislator offices.

We are looking for participants of all ages, faiths (and non-faith), sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnicities, abilities, educational and class backgrounds.

Go to www.righttomarry.org to learn more, apply, get involved & support!

Howdy,

Two fairly clean, friendly, laid-back, quiet, outdoorsy college students looking for a roommate for August 1st (our roommate left without 30 days notice, so we're scrambling). It's a nice place with a small, fenced-in yard and off-street parking, right across from Thorpe Park (1/2 mile west of down town, 3 blocks north of the tracks). It is a two-floor, three bed, 2.5 bath place. Lots of closet space, and a garage for storage. No lease. No pets (landlord's rules, not ours), no tobacco inside. House comes with one male and one female roommate. We don't care what kind of gear you have.

It's a quiet neighborhood, with easy access to hike/bike trails on Mars Hill, disc golf course, tennis courts, Adult Center w/ weight room, not far from NAU... and a short bike ride to the bars. ;)

Please comment with an email address if you're interested, or know anyone who might be! It's very cheap-- $320/mo + gas/elec/cable.

x-posted

So through some kind of witchcraft, one of the classes I originally signed up for way earlier has switched to online, disappeared from my schedule, and is now closed ?_? This leaves me at 13 hours (which is acceptable, esp considering there's like 3 400 levels in there) but with some extra time on my hands Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights and a whole day on Friday almost. So I'm thinking of throwing a PES class on there. Does anyone has any recommendations? I'm kind of a fat kid with very little experience aside from some martial arts and some yoga. I'm just looking for recommendations on classes that you've been in and were fun and/or had good instructors. I can only really afford one, but I've some how not taken any PES classes at all until now and I'd like to do it at least once (and have an excuse to work out).

e: has anyone done basic self defense or Sport Judo? I'm curious on what each of them are, and if the Basic Self Defense will include a decent amount of working out.

Funny Story

So, at Orientation today, a mom was so anxious and excited to talk to someone about her/her daughter's financial aid that she actually took out a financial aid employee, hurting the employee's knee and tearing the employee's pants. The employee was lying on the ground bleeding and the mom was still asking questions. The employee told her she would not answer her questions and that she would have to go to Financial Aid herself. LOLOLOL

**AN UPDATE**
The employee is fine, however, they have a lot of bandaids on their knees. The mom did come into the FinAid office with the same exuberance and they handled all of her questions (which I hear were stupid and numerous). The mom has not apologised, I don't think she is going to.

I feel a bit guilty with such a sill question but..
when the fuck do we get our student aid reports? I assume it varies on when you turned in your fafsa etc. I turned mine in but as usual NAU didn't believe I was that poor (WHAT A STRETCH) so I had to send in my tax return and dad's tax return and his W-2s. There was a deadline for this that I missed, since all my mail gets forwarded, but last year i didn't get them in until JULY or so so I didn't think it'd be a huge deal.

But now I'm nervous. I've been checking louie a lot to see if i can click the 2009 financial aid link yet (I CAN'T D: ) So does anyone know how long is generally takes before submitting all needed documents and the aid showing up? I'm worried because i'm afraid maybe I forgot something (I reread it so much but still worried) and that might be why...

So yea, if you also haven't gotten yours, reassure me, or if you know anything about the office of financial aid, let me know please XD i never think of these questions while they are open (stupid 3 hour time difference)

Well, sort of.

It was set on a college campus in Flagstaff, AZ. Campus looked nothing like NAU or the scenery like Northern Arizona, but damn, the Flagstaff Police cars were spot on.

I could have sworn i found this on the nau res life site once but I can't find it now.

Anyone know the length of the mattresses that come STANDARD to the dorms?

I was looking at sheets today and remembered buying normal twin sheets and them not fitting well, but I'm afraid to get extra long (for fitted sheet) in case it's TOO long. To clarify, the standard was for a 76" bed, and the extra long was 80" so not a huge difference. XL ones came in more colors though (and cost $5 more). So if it will fit well I'll drop that $5, but if not I'll go with the cheap stuff.

Also guys, I'd say now is a good time to stock up for things like sheet sets at places like Bed, Bath, And Beyond. This is where I work (but not in flag lol) and there are some pretty good deals going on right now that I think are nation wide.
300 thread count Egyptian cotton sateen by wasmutta are 40% off (I think they are discontinued) as are the 400 count ones as well. At my store they are on a table as you walk in, so they should be near front ends. these are SEPARATE sheets (flat or fitted) but for twin fitted sheets they are $6, $9 for XL. You may have troubles finding matching colors in flat and fitted, but if you just plain want some nice feeling, high thread count sheets and aren't very picky (or rich) now is the time. You can get a flat and fitted for under $20, and you can use coupons also. the 400 count are also pretty cheap (you can get both for under $20) but I couldn't find any in non-whites :/

In the same area, entire sheet sets are $15 for twin. They are only 250 thread count but they are matched, have a pillowcase, and come in little floral patterns. These are also clearance I think.

I thought I'd mention this now, because once back to school starts not only will BBB be SWAMPED but these clearance sheets will be gone. So I know I'm stocking up on sheets now!

Also, right now as supplies last, the George Foreman grills are on sale. The big one is $25, but the 'champ size' (aka the only one you'd really have room for in your dorm) is a mere $15. Combine that with a 20% off coupon or, better, a $5 off $15, and you can get one for $13 or $10. both of those are only limited time, as supplies last offers (and the big one is a $25 savings or something)so it'd be best to pick them up now, leave them in the garage, then take them back to school with you. I know I'm going to pick up the tiny ones this friday for $10 to save for school XD.
George Foremans are NOT allowed in normal dorm rooms, but are ok for apartment styles with kitchens, and the champ size is small enough to take down to your kitchen and use then stash back in your room.

So yea, those are the big things I've noticed that are super cheap right now. If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond nearby you might want to check, since the sateen sheets especially are very nice. It's always good to have TWO sets of sheets also, for changing regularly.

Allen Hall

Hey guys.

I've been at NAU for two years, and my younger sister is starting her first year at NAU this fall. She was just assigned to Allen Hall. Even in my two years, I have never ever been in Allen Hall, and I know only that it used to be an upperclassman, single room dorm style, but it was recently made into a freshman double student dorm. Does this mean that the rooms are relatively small for two students?

Also, what's the general atmosphere of the place? Is it like the other freshman dorms? Pros/cons of living there?

Thanks =)

Rideshare!!

Hi.. I'm going to try this one more time.

Is anyone going back up to Flagstaff late-night Wednesday the 28th? I'm going down for a show but the buses/shuttles stop running at about 11pm which is too early and I have to be back in Flag because I have work at 7:30am the next day.

Let me know if you're driving up and have room for me and the $30 I would've spent on the bus fare is yours.

Thanks!!

Once Again with more specific info....

I posted this once before, but I'm posting it again since I have more concrete information this time around, heh.....

The Office of the Registrar's is hiring ONLY for federal work study students. We are desperately searching for people to work in grades, transcripts, graduation, and a few more positions.

Pay starts at $7.50 an hour.

Flexible schedules, and you could possibly get full time.

If interested please contact the Registrar's Office! We like people who have a good work ethic. Great people to work with! We work hard to play hard. In all reality the job is pretty chill. So if you meet all criteria please call and apply!

You get weekends and holidays off. Hours are between 7:30-4:30 Monday through Friday. We are also looking to retain for the Fall, so if your work is satisfactory you'll have a job through December 2008/possibly May 2009!

www.nau.edu/registrar <--- For contact info go here.

Physical Therapy/Orthapedic Rehab

Has anyone gone to a physical therapist in the Flagstaff area? I just found out I'm going to have to commit to a few months for tendon business and want to find something as close to campus as possible due to the lack of a car and the fact that my injury is foot related (walking far=oww)

Fronske doesn't do this kind of stuff, do they?

ps. I have major medical insurance outside of NAU

Any ideas?
