Homemade hair care, facial mask, dry heels tip, and body scrub
Information taken from the February 1, 2009 Women’s Day article “No Appointment Necessary”. Volume No 72, Issue No. 4. Pgs 31-34

Honey-Banana Hair Smoothie

“Get hair super-shiny and moisturize the scalp with this recipe from Keneesha Hudson, owner of Urbanbella Salon in Atlanta”

1 mashed banana
1 Tbsp plain yogurt
2 Tbsp condensed soy milk
3 drops honey

Blend together ingredients and apply to wet hair (pre-shampoo). Prevent dripping by wrapping hair in plastic wrap and covering with a towel. After an hour, rinse out, then shampoo as usual.

Milk and Honey Facial Mask

“Beat dryness with a hydrating facial mask from Bettijo B. Hirschi, creator of Bath By Bettijo, an all-natural spa skincare line”

4 Tbsp powdered milk
2 Tbsp warm water
2 Tbsp honey
1 washcloth

Combine ingredients and stir until smooth. Spread mixture on face (avoid eyes and mouth). Wet washcloth with warm water and rest it over the mask for 10 minutes. Rinse off mask using washcloth and pat dry.

Use Pineapple or kiwi skins on your feet (Didn’t want to type out the full article part, and I keep lol-ing)

“… rub the fleshy part of the pineapple or kiwi skin along the bottom of each foot for five minutes, focusing on heels, between toes and on calluses. Rinse feet with warm water and towel dry before finishing with a moisturizing foot lotion to maintain softness.”

Essential body scrub

“‘It’s easy to create a pampering body scrub,’ according to Anne-Marie Faiola, DIY beauty expert of Bramble Berry, a beauty crafting supplier. The ingredients you need are right in your kitchen. This weekly scrub will shed scaly skin and promote a healthy glow.”

½ cup sugar
½ cup olive oil
10 drops essential oil

Combine the ingredients and gently rub over your body. Concentrate on areas prone to dry, rough patches, like elbows, knees, and heels. Rinse off and pat dry.

Essential Oils Women’s Day recommends

Skin Characteristics: Dry, rough, and cold to the touch
Your Essential Oil: Rose to soothe the skin

Skin Characteristics: Delicate, sensitive, with blotchy red patches (the result of broken capillaries) and slight oiliness
Your Essential Oil: Sandalwood, to calm skin

Skin Characteristics: Oily, congested, with blackheads and large pores
Your Essential Oil: Bergamot, to balance skin

Thanks for sharing. I have tried the sugar/olive oil scrub before, but not with the essential oils. The sugar/olive oil combo works well.

it's pretty yummy - I like adding some coffee grounds or cocoa to mine. The first will energize you and the later, well, it just feels good! ;-D

Used coffee grounds or just normal? (I'm insanely frugal.)

You can use either. When I made it I used the used espresso grinds from the local coffee shop. They would but them out in bags to use in compost and such. And yout can't get more frugal than free. ;-)
