Crocheted Swiffer Cover
I love to use my Swiffer, but I hate the disposable covers. So last night I made a pattern out of 100% cotton yarn, that fits on a swiffer. I thought some here might be able to use it. Its machine washable, and it works great.

Re-usable Swiffer Cover

Size I hook and Sugar n Cream yarn - any color (its a *really* good use for scraps)

Measure your swiffer width, and add 4 inches. (my swiffer is 10 inches across.. so I crocheted 14 inches worth).

Chain 18 st. In the second ch from hook, sc in each st - 17 st across.
Repeat this row until you reach your measurement. I stretched mine out before I measured, because the cotton stretches as is, and I wanted a snug fit.

Fold over short edges 2 inches on each side(wrong sides together), and sew the edges closed, so the cover can slip on your swiffer and stay on securely.

Huh. It really picks up dirt and dust as well as the disposable pads? I might have to try knitting one.

I just crochet faster than I knit. And it works better at grabbing stuff, beecause its more course.

I *just* used the cover to mop the kitchen floor, and it worked GREAT. I have been using a washcloth over it, but this works so much better.

Just out of curiosity-- have you used a knitted one too? How much better is the crochetted version? Is it a huge difference?

And for those who aren't so good with yarn (like myself :) , you can get a microfiber cloth for the swiffer that also works well and is reusable.

The general store I got it at had it right in with the cleaning suplies where the swiffers are, I beleive. You can ask someone at the store where the dust cloths are and they can probally help you. There's a bunch of places online you can buy them as well. [if you do a seach for "microfiber dust cloth" you'll get tons of places]

this is an awesome idea! i'm a knitter, not a crocheter, but i love this. :) I personally use old, worn out cloth diapers with my swiffer.

My floor guy recommended that I buy a swiffer but I just can't do it... I loathe disposable products, but if I could find a resuable cover for it, I just may be tempted.

A project to crochet like this would be really simple, if you would like to learn. If not, I am offering to make them for $5 each. They would last for a while. Also, you can just use washcloths with them.
