Cool Toys
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

I'm visiting my parents and Monday evening my mother hosted a small baby shower for me. Afterwards mom and I sat and talked with a couple of her friends. One of them, Michelle, home schools her kids and is very much into the type of lifestyle I would like to someday achieve. The four of us were discussing the current problem with toys. I mentioned The Dangerous Book for Boys and how I thought it was a great thing to get kids involved and away from their video games. Then we talked about the scary items China is trying to poison us with. I mentioned that I didn't want a lot of plastic scary toys for my children and Michelle told me to look up David Olaf.com or .net or something. She couldn't remember. She said that is where she got a catalog for items that were all glass, metal, or wood. So today my hubby and I started searching for this webpage. No luck. But we did come across This web page. It's a web page for Montessori toys.

Check out the wooden tree house that is 3 feet tall! And their building block sets. I was very thrilled to find this page that I couldn't wait to share it with all of you.

Have a great day!

I love the Dangerous Book for Boys. There is also a Daring Book for Girls.

Great link! I'll be shopping there in the next few weeks, lol.

if you want to stay away from plastic and the like, seatch for "natural toys" and "european toys". i was really excited when i found toys that didn't look like cheap, crappy, future landfill. here's a couple links.

I really dislike the "china is trying to poison us with" comments I see around the net. :/

I'm sorry you were offended by my statement. It is a logical conclusion to all of the recalls and the recent discovery of lead leaching into food from tableware shipped to us from China. Not to mention the previous poisons found earlier this year in cheep toothpaste that was made in China.

My parents have a friend who works for the Toys for Tots program in their state. Since all of the toys are donated they have to check each toy against 5 pages of recalled toys all made in China.

I would be interested to hear your point of view on the matter.

Well, there's the fact that Mattel apologized to China for the recalls, saying the issues were Mattel's problem, not China's.

If you google it, there are multiple articles about it.

Secondly, the fact that you mentioned the poisons in cheap toothpaste. So many people demand cheap products, but expect high quality. We get what we pay for. There were no actual poisonings from the toothpastes, and toothpaste is not supposed to be swallowed anyways. I think that the USA gov't should have stronger regulations about what is allowed in products. Apparently they don't have a problem with it being shipped into the country.

It is ridiculous how many things are made in China, and most are not dangerous. I wasn't offended, but I think it's slightly ridiculous. There are garbage products being made in the USA. I think it's about being careful as a consumer, rather than targeting one country.

China is not trying to poison us. *sigh* China is not the great evil.

Wait, what - we're not? I thought we were! Damn, I must have missed the "Annihilate the US via children's toys" memo.

Seriously, I am sick of the "China is out to poison us" and the "Chinese are out to get us" comments. Why aren't people saying, "Stupid Mattel, why aren't they paying more attention to how they're manufacturing their toys?" Is it that easy to blame the Chinese?

Trying to get something for nothing; we did it to ourselves. There are just as many reputable businesses and businesspeople in China as there are in any other country in the world (including the US). The thing is? Doing good business costs money; we want the top quality toy for Wal*Mart prices.

Melissa & Doug toys (as an example) are made in China and they are inspected 3 times before they hit the market. They also have a M&D employee in every manufacturing plant overseeing the process.
