| mechanic? |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|12:06 pm] |
Looking for a mechanic in the Inglewood area who can fix whatever's making my car not pass inspection that is affordable.
edit to add: its not the emissions that are a problem, its the OBD crap. i have 1 too many "trouble modules" on and it auto-fails me without even giving the emissions test, which the car will pass.
Any recs? |

| dog classes? |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|10:50 am] |
I'm looking for classes for my dog. She's a rescue dog, about 3 or 4 years old, a pom mix. I've had her for about 6 months and (I know) have never had her properly trained. She's scared to death of crates and my mom, who used to help me watch her when I lived in Chattanooga (I just moved here), insisted they were cruel so I didn't really pursue the crate training.
I really need house training.. and just basic stuff like sit and stay. I did a google search but I'd prefer some recommendations. Thanks a lot. |

| Scooter dealers? |
[Jul. 17th, 2008|05:47 pm] |
Does anyone know of any scooter (49cc-125cc) dealers or dealerships in Nashville?
Frankly, I'm not interested in shelling out even two grand for one, but I'm looking for something that I can use to get back and forth from the office that can do about 45mph and manage >80mpg. Craigslist is being somewhat unthrilling, and America's Motorsports stuff seems to start at two grand and go up rapidly from there. |

[Jul. 16th, 2008|06:05 pm] |
My folks are coming up for my dad's birthday this weekend, and Italian is about the only thing all 4 of us can settle on.
Are there any good, decently priced, casual Italian restaurants in town? |

| Can anyone recommend a good shrink? |
[Jul. 14th, 2008|01:21 pm] |
My insurance provider's "find a doctor" database is pretty bare for Davidson/Williamson county, so I thought I'd ask here:
Can anyone recommend a good, preferably female and not *too* old (generation gap = bad) psychiatrist? I live in Franklin and I work in downtown Nashville so anywhere between or near those two points would be great. |

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this or if anyone has advice to give, but I thought i'd give it a shot. I'm moving to Nashville in about six weeks with my family. I'm twenty three, and my siblings are fourteen, five, and just about two and a half months old. My parents were born and raised in a small town in New York (just like their parents, and their parents, and their parents) so they're a little hesitant to move somewhere new. I was wondering if anyone could give suggestions that would make their move easier. They're buying a house in Franklin. Any suggestions would help really...best places to get groceries, child care suggestions, stuff for the family to do on the weekends. Thanks in advance if anyone has any sort of advice/tips at all. |

[Jul. 9th, 2008|11:09 am] |
Anyone have thoughts about any of the TN state parks? Specifically, I'm planning a fall weekend getaway, and I'm thinking about renting a cabin at one of the them. Any great experiences? Crappy ones? Colorful anecdotes?
Thanks for any/all advice! |

| Rainbow flipflops? A stylist who can thin w/o layering? |
[Jul. 8th, 2008|02:38 pm] |
Hi there, I moved here about a year ago and I've been looking around for a pair of Rainbow brand flipflops/thongs to replace my ancient, 12 year-old pair, and I can't seem to find any. Does anyone know any shops near downtown/east nashville/west meade/bellevue that sell Rainbows?
Also, I'm currently working on a massive triangular-bob haircut, and I really need my hair thinned, not made thicker. I've gone 4 local Aveda salons and they've all just added more layers/given me a massive bob instead of thinning. My hair is really deceptive because when it's wet/blow-dried, it looks thin, but it's huge when air-dried. Any suggestions? I've heard Deb Metzger is good, but really expensive- anything under $100 would be grand.
Thanks! |

| A moment to explain. |
[Jul. 3rd, 2008|07:29 am] |
So, after the tacotom incident where there wasn't really a maintainer to complain to about spam posts, I logged an LJ Support case complaining about the user who's account was obviously created just to spam college and city communities with this Jack in the Box promotion. LJ's initial response to the case was, to complain to the maintainer of the group and have them delete the post and mark it as spam. I explained that I'd love to, but the maintainer hadn't been around LJ for quite some time and likely didn't keep up with such things anymore. And so, their solution was to make me the maintainer. Squeaky wheel becomes the mechanic, apparently.
At first, I wasn't going to say anything about it, since I feel for the most part this community moderates itself. Most anything goes here, even if it causes some debate (or dissent) in comments. But after the second spam post in two weeks, I feel it necessary to let you guys know there is a moderator around and I'll try to sort out this stuff. I don't mind doing what little I see here to be done. Ninety-eight percent of the time, I really don't see a need for a moderator here. But there are those rare occasions when there needs to be someone around to be able to delete this crap and mark it as spam.
That said, since there weren't really any community rules before, I think we can add that our only rule is, "Just say no to spam." I don't think anyone cares if you're advertising your local yard sale or event, or selling a personal item locally, or if it's a local band releasing an album that you want to promote. I just don't think we want to see national brands who obviously have advertising budgets (enough to buy commercial time, apparently) being able to exploit LJ as a means of free advertising. Am I right? Or am I way off base here?
If you've got any beef with this or me being the mod or anything else for that matter, feel free to message me or drop me a line at mellymel_hsv at yahoo dot com. Complaining: it's what the internet is for, right?
P.S. - I don't want to won't make a bunch of rules, but me personally, I'd appreciate it if people put large images behind cuts. I don't like to mess with filters and I also don't like to scroll forever to posts I'm interested in. It only takes a few extra keystrokes to do and makes everyone happier. For the most part, people are kind enough to do this on their own anyway. But like I said, I'm not going to make anyone do it. I think that's kind of petty. |

[Jul. 2nd, 2008|04:42 pm] |
Long story short, Smyrna PD sent me a notice saying they had a warrant out for me for a worthless check. I called, they said the warrant was 5 years old (even though I’ve NEVER been given ANYTHING on it before, nor has anything been said to me when I got pulled over a couple weeks ago, etc). I asked for the information on it, and said that acct I had left open for awhile to let stuff clear but then closed when I found out someone had been in it fraudulently. The LT. told me that because it was so old they “couldn’t” tell me anything on it, didn’t know who it was to, the amount, nothing. They said to come down and just surrender myself, pay the bond, and have a court date. They couldn’t tell me a bond amount because they couldn’t tell me how much the check was for. I called the County Clerk, who couldn’t tell me much more, but was able to tell me it looked like it was for a pawn shop. (Which I’ve never bought anything at!)
In any event, I find it RIDICULOUS that they can arrest me, but not tell me any of the information regarding it. Does anyone know of any decent lawyers around Nashville? I hate to get a lawyer and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to afford all that, but…..I WANT to know what all this is before I go down to the station, I feel like I should at least have that right, and I don’t know who else to go to….so a lawyer was the first thing I thought of. Any good recommendations? |
