Rules for Nominating
(Modified as of 05/05/08)

And these be the rules for nominating a fanfiction (if you couldn't tell from the heading). If you have any questions, please visit our FAQ!

The rules for nomination are fairly simple:

Step ONE-->   Before you nominate a story:

+ Check the List of Nominees to make sure it hasn't been nominated already.

+ Make sure your nomination has not already previously won in the [info]naruto_choice contest.  To see who has won in the past, check out [info]naruto_choice's past winners.

NOTE:  The only exception to this rule is if the fic previously won Best Work in Progress and is now a completed work.

+ All fics must be completed, whether it be a one-shot, multi-part, or an arc— if it’s not completed it will not be accepted into multiple categories. The ONLY category an incomplete story can compete in is 'Best Work In Progress.'

+ Make note that each fic can compete in two (2) different Standard categories and three (3) Special categoriesIn other words, each fic submitted can compete in a total of five (5) categories.

+ If you are planning on nominating multiple stories by the same author, please read this part carefully!

1.) An author can only have ten (10) stories in the contest at maximum.
2.) An author can only compete in a single category with three (3) stories maximum.

(Note:  Should a category be low on participants towards the end of the contest and a single author is dominating that category to the point of having the odds of winning in their favor unfairly, we may ask for the author (or their nominator) to remove or make changes to their submissions.  For example, Category 1 contains five fics, three of which are by Author A.  We may ask that Author A retract two of their fics from that specific category in order to create a balance of fics by Author A, Author B, and Author C, effectively giving them all a fair chance of winning.

Any questions about this should be directed to the
FAQ page.)

+ Read the categories page so you know which categories you'll be nominating the fic for.

Step TWO-->  Notify your nominee (if you're not nominating yourself, that is ^_~) of the fact they are being nominated.  Provide them the link to this community and tell them which categories you're nominating them for.

(Note: We require this be done because we need to make sure authors are okay with being involved with a contest. We also need to make sure the author is still active in the fandom-- if they don't respond to your inquiry, this means they can *not* be officially submitted until their approval comes through!)

Step THREE-->  Once you've done the above steps successfully, comment in the List of Nominees thread with the following information:

Title: The fic's title.
Author: The author's LJ username and/or FFN/other applicable pen name, AND e-mail address (when applicable).
Nominator: Your LJ username and/or FFN/other applicable pen name plus e-mail address (when applicable).
STANDARD: The Standard category(s) the fic will compete in.
SPECIALS: The Special category(s) the fic will compete in.
Rating: G – NC-17 (or child, teen, adult…whatever it is we’re using nowadays.)
Pairings: A list of all the pairings the fic contains. Please, no surprises; some people get squicked easily.
WARNINGS: Deathfic, rape, NCS, incest, lemon, OOC, existential teenage angst, kink, etc…. Some readers can be really squeamish about certain topics. Please have the courtesy to warn them before they dive in.
SPOILERS: Use your own judgment here. If you’re not sure, just say which character(s) it deals with.
Link:  A link to where we can find the story.
Consent Received?:  Yes/No.  If you haven't received consent to nominate the story, please do so and then respond to your nomination comment when you have.  The mods will then give their approval and ask you to submit the nomination to the community :D.

(Note:  The reason the Nominations List replies are so short/non-existent is because the Mods are deleting them as the submissions are completed.  The process goes something like this:  Person submits nomination, Moderators make sure the nomination is in order and give their okay, Nominator submits nomination to community, Moderators then delete the initial nomination comment and add the submitted fic to the List of Nominees.

The reason for all of this is so 1. the nomination is falling into the correct categories, and 2. to make sure the author knows their fic is being involved in a the contest
before it's submitted.)

Once your nomination has been okay'd by a Moderator, please continue to the Submission Rules section for further details!
