[Gala day 3] More asplosions! [Open to all who want to confront Deidara directy]
[continued from here]

Chiriku didn't glance back to make sure that Asuka was getting out of there. Though she did want to. Their time together protecting the Daimyo and the trust they cultivated asserted itself and Chiriku focused on the threat at hand.

Moving quickly and nimbly so as to avoid touching anyone or anything with the chakra nimbus swirling around her. This raw energy burned everything it touched--including the wielder. Takanobu would be plenty upset to see she had new scars.

This was Chiriku's "Genius Technique": the ability to snatch a person's chakra from them before it could be expelled in a jutsu, and then utilized in any way she saw fit. Of course there were limits and drawbacks. The biggest was the amount of chakra she could have 'on-hand'. Her own personal chakra was off-limits from this. Cultivation of the technique meant forcing her chakra pathways to develop differently from that of a shinobi's. So she coudn't do jutsu, except for the henge. Even that was a strain.

Once outside she searched for the source of the attacks, and only barely caught the glow of fire reflecting off a very strange bird. Not wishing to take the time to process it overmuch she simply spun and thrust her fist out like she hoped to simply slug the bird in the beak a straight punch.

The actual intent, however, was to just punch through the bird's brain with a lethal, sharp-tipped lance of pure energy.

Deidara hadn't expected anything to come up this far. And she certainly didn't expect such power to come from what appeared to be a monk. It was a mistake, perhaps, and the bird was destroyed. By then though, Deidara had already leaped off and too the ground in a flutter of black and red robes.

She landed easily, grinning to the orange clad... well, it was a lady. Even more interesting. The Akatsuki member spoke casually, one hand sliding into the clay bag at her side. "Not too bad, un. Bet you can't do it again."

Chiriku shaped the chakra into a shield as the bird exploded into--dust? Yes. The bird exploded into chunks of ceramic (to judge by the sounds they made hitting the ground) and dust that rained down on and around her. A movement of arms combined with thought swept the dust off the shield so it wouldn't settle on her once the chakra shifted.

She tracked the Akatsuki's hand. For indeed, it was Akatsuki; she recognized those whorls of red on sable. Wasn't that lovely. Not rising to the verbal bait she instead grabbed a sizable chunk of the chakra from where it circled around her and, ignoring the pain of the skin of her palm getting burned, fashioned the chakra into several vague kunai shapes before flinging them all at the blond. All were aimed for various points on the Akatsuki's body, except for the two aimed for the pouch.

Having gotten as many civilians out of the danger zone as he could, Yuugao followed the monk - Chiriku - swirling with chakra. It was a technique he'd never seen before, but he knew that she was most definitely on his side. He was just far enough behind that as he got outside he saw Deidara leap to the ground. Chiriku attacked without hesitation and Yuugao stuck to the wall. If he could get off one good sneak attack...he very well could gain an upperhand.

Yuugao hid himself against the wall with a genjutsu and was glad that he'd chosen to wear the black hakama. If he'd been wearing his gold kimono he would've stuck out like a sore thumb -- at least this way the genjutsu only had to disguise his skin. He prepared his garrote wires and prepped his chakra. One good shot would likely be his best bet, he just had to time it right.

This monk was good. Her... her attacks were almost elegant. Beautiful, even. And fairly easy to dodge, for a member of Akatsuki.

...except for the one that she couldn't stop from hitting her pouch.

Deidara hissed a curse and then threw her pouch from her body, diving away. And as soon as that chakra stuck the pouch of explosives clay, things got even more interesting. The pouch exploded with a thunderous boom, the area being enveloped in hot, white light.

Despite her preparedness and moving, Deidara was flung against a wall hard. For a moment she couldn't see anything but the afterimages from the light and all she could hear in her ears was ringing. But she had enough sense to release the tiny spiders the mouth in her hand had been able to make. They crawled over the floor and out, looking for its enemies. Slowly, her seeing and sight came back though, and she grinned a little bit at the monk.

"... not bad, un. Not bad."

Chiriku's sole thought when the bag exploded and the shock wave knocked her over could be summed up as thus:

Well, shit.

Stupid to try and fight to stay put when you were already in the air. Better to roll with it when you landed (OW), use the chakra as an extra buffer, and come up on her feet. She held in place there while her vision slowly cleared (too slowly!). Unfortunately there wasn't much she could do about the ringing in her ears. Therefore she shaped the chakra into a frontal half-sphere shield to protect her until she could get reoriented, and thought quickly about her options.

So far, she hadn't been able to tell when the Akatsuki was forming chakra for a jutsu. That made it difficult to yank it away from the blond. If she needed to at some point she could potentially pull chakra from another shinobi but to recall Asuka's reaction back in the day, the shinobi wouldn't be too appreciative of it and Chiriku really didn't want to have to stop and explain things.

Not that she had a need of chakra right now--what Morino had given her was quite enough, actually. She just needed to ignore the way her robes were beginning to smoke and how the gold threads were starting to melt. This was why she wore a leather sleeveless bodysuit under her robes: she could then shed the outer layers to increase her mobility, plus the material was tougher and therefore offered her more protection from the chakra. Chakra burns hurt and created scars, but chakra burns along with the regular kind as fabric ignited hurt worse. Right now adrenaline plus conditioning-training were doing an honestly fantastic job of letting her ignore all but the worst of the pain to focus on the fight at hand.

And of course that would be when something touched her shield and abruptly exploded.

Thankfully the shield took most of the blast, but she went flying again and it was less controlled. Bouncing off paved stone to smack into a pillar hurt, even with the chakra to help cushion the blows. Pushing up off her feet she forced her eyes to focus and saw a few small cream-colored spiders crawling towards her. She decided not to take chances and hurled pseudo-kunai at the crawlies, and threw up her arms to protect her face when they burst into bright, concussive suns.

Kureno and Aki split up soon upon arriving and finding they were too late to fulfill their hopes of an advanced warning. The only thing left to do after was divide and conquer, finding essential people and either informing them or fighting them depending on which side they were on.

Cutting through the building, Kureno came out into the open area (a courtyard maybe? it was hard to recognized through all the wreckage) where Chiriku-san was defending herself against a multitude of...clay figures? ...Exploding clay figures. That would make them more frightening and deadly and thus cause need of extreme caution, wouldn't it. Right.

Yuugao was hiding, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Best to not bring any attention to him and give try to open up such a chance. First, however, was to make his mark on the battle and give Chiriku-san--what was that technique she was using?--her own chance to get back a little breathing room.

Hands flew through seals before slamming onto the ground. There was a slight give-away tremor of chakra in the ground running from Kureno to Deidara that even some jounin-level ninja wouldn't figure out what the cause was until it was too late. The Akatsuki were not the kind to be expected to fall for such a thing however, so it wasn't a surprise when Deidara aptly leaped clear of the spikes that suddenly shot out of the ground, impaling the air she'd stood seconds before several times over. But the point wasn't so much to do damage as it was to draw attention to there being two players on the field now (and keeping their third unknown).

Kureno remained some feet away and behind the monk engulfed in swirls of chakra. "Chiriku-san, I'm here to offer my assistance."

Chiriku nodded briefly in acknowledgement, her eyes still tracking where Deidara went. The jutsu Kureno-san had performed gave the monk a chance to catch her breath. There really was nothing to do about her ruined robes, except to be glad she had on her leathers underneath. The chakra wouldn't damage those easily, so the only real problems would be her exposed shoulder joints, the palms of her hands, and her fingers.

...and her neck and collar area, when the robes finally burned. Potentially even her face. (At least she didn't have hair to catch fire.) Nuts! When she got back to the temple, she was going to sit with the tailor and seamstress about making a set of formal robes that were as easy to remove as her regular ones.

Worry about the Akatsuki now and the robes later, she told herself. "We need to find if she's another source of clay; that seems to be her primary offensive tactic. I've destroyed one bag that was on her side."

The jounin nodded. Made sense. That would certainly explain the clay creatures earlier. If the Akatsuki made them on the spot that could be trouble, but if they didn't have the means...

"Any particular plan so far?" he asked, needing to know if he was going to be interrupting a scheme with any certain jutsu.

"Kill her," Chiriku said simply and calmly. That was the only plan. This was an Akatsuki who threatened the Daimyo and his family, nevermind being an international criminal. Clemency wasn't for one such as that--especially not from one of the Twelve.

Even if one was a monk.

"Suggestions as to the 'how' would not be disregarded."

Oh look! Someone else!

Deidara did easily jump back from the spikes, flipping over and landing on a broken piece of wall. She eyed the newcomer, and then grinned, seeing him speaking too the monk. So she cupped her hands around her mouth, yelling. "It's not nice to talk about others behind their back, un! You should be nicer!"

But, really, this was distracting her from her original task. Sarutobi seemed to have disappeared and this just would not do. Hopefully a few spiders had survived that other blast and would crawl out now, to take care of these pesky too. Which was almost sad- the monks attacks, with a little more finesse, really could have been art.

"Time to go~" Deidara chimed, moving to leap back. "I have to meet Sarutobi-san, un~"

Yuugao had used his time wisely and snuck around to make the most use of his attack. When Deidara opened her mouth to announce her exit, Yuugao acted. Tiny, almost invisible garrote wire shot out from the packs under Yuugao's wrists and his chakra guided them with deadly accuracy.

Before Deidara had finished her second "un", it was already too late. One wire had gone around her torso and was closing in fast, another was mimicking the first but with her legs, a third threatened to remove her scalp, and the fourth -- it it had her left arm by the upper bicep.

In a split-second he pulled them tighter and the arm fell off with a neat cut, the top of her head was raked by the wire -- blood gushed from the head, of course -- and the remaining wires jerked Deidara off her feet.

Yuugao grinned to himself in the shadows of a tree. He had just disarmed and pinned an Akatsuki. And in his formal wear, no less.

One moment she was up. The next she was down, writhing in agony.

Deidara couldn't help the surprised scream that escaped her lips, twisting in the wires and making them dig in even more. Her good eye went impossibly wide and looked over to the arm on the ground and blood gushing from the now useless stump. Red coated her vision as the blood splashed down her face and she started screaming again, but now in rage. She fought, kicked, and screamed to get out of the wires, her rage only growing as she found she couldn't.

Fine. They wanted to play that way? Then they could play that way. And they would regret it.

Her grin turned maniacal and her free arm yanked at the coat on her chest. She ripped it open, and then started to tear off the shirt underneath. Once the markings on her chest were exposed, she started to yank off her pouch, to pour it in the now, what appeared to be, gaping mouth. "This is art, UN!"

Kureno had to disagree. "This is bad."

He wasn't sure what that "mouth" in the Akatsuki's chest was, or what feeding it clay would do exactly. He only knew that Chiriku had said keeping her away from clay was a good thing and that this one was now in a desperate state for vengeance, and powerful beings in desperate states often spelled Very Bad Things. Yuugao's cunning use of wires may keep the Akatsuki held for a while, but maybe not long enough.

"Chiriku-san!" Kureno turned to her with no instruction or command in mind. If anything, he looked to her to make sure they were on the same page, and check who would be making the first move so they wouldn't be running into each other.

Chiriku was already moving when the Akatsuki mentioned Asuka (which was probably the absolute worst thing the blond could have done). Wide, encircling arm movements gathered up all of the chakra that flowed around her, condensing it into a smaller and smaller area, restricting it to cover her forearms like bracers. Despite the leather protecting her skin, to have that much energy so close hurt. She grimaced in pain and ignore it, sweat flowing down the sides of her face from focusing the chakra so tightly. The chakra itself fought her; after all, it wasn't her chakra she was moulding.

Ready now, Chiriku thrust her arms out with enough momentum to move her whole body forward, her slippered foot stamping the ground. Charka thundered as it lanced through air, more brightly and more potently then the shot to kill the clay bird. The blast struck the Akatsuki mid-torso, and Chiriku grabbed onto the tail-end of the chakra before it all slipped through her fingers and yanked it to the side, causing the beam to shift just enough to three-quarters sever the upper torso before the energy completely left her control.

Chiriku bent over, hands clapping onto her knees, and winced at the sound of shattering stone in the distance. She had been expecting it; after all, the Daimyo liked his towers and she had now successfully destroyed a good chunk of a wall of one of them. She expected it was going to be coming out of her future paycheck when it came time for her tour.

Then the upper half of her robes burst into flame.

Biting her tongue hard against using a few choice words learned from Asuka, Sensei, and the Daimyo's guards, she worked on tearing at her burning robes where she could or slapping the flames when the fabric stubbornly held.

As soon as he was sure that Chiriku's chakra blast (not that he'd ever seen anything like it) would finish off the Akatsuki woman, he cut off the wires with a sharp jolt of chakra and darted back towards the palace. His fingers still tingled from the sheer mass of chakra that had been going through them and he let himself smile.

He'd just help finish off an Akatsuki member. And the monk was stripping and dancing around as her clothes burned.

Which meant he should get to helping her avoid third degree burns.

Yuugao was over by Chiriku in a split second and took off his jacket, pulling it around Chiriku and patting her down with it vigorously, snuffing out the flames as he worked. "Excuse me for being too close, Chiriku-san," He said as he patted down her legs. It wasn't often that he'd ever been this close a monk -- let alone one of the Twelve.

With the clothes on Chiriku no longer flaming, he dropped his jacket and cast a cold jutsu directly over the bits of still burning robes. He coughed once from all the smoke that surrounded him and then smiled over at his two companions.

"Kureno," he nodded at the man, looking over at Chiriku. "And Chiriku-san. Is there anyone else we need to attend to?"

Namely, were there more enemies that he didn't know about?

Chiriku went white-faced with pain when Yuugao helped put out the flames on her person, but to her credit didn't make a sound. The spots of light dancing in her vision she blamed on the after-images of that chakra blast while she brushed the still-warm ashes that were her robes off her skin. Self-consciousness made her wince at how, well, exposed she was. Her pants had also caught fire, so she was without them now as well because what was left wouldn't've taken to a whole lot more movement.

After all that heat, the air was chilly in comparison and goosebumps rose in the slight breeze. Chiriku shook out her hands and ignored the angry red on the palms and the backs of her fingers; and she studiously made it a point to keep from glancing at her shoulders. They didn't hurt too badly now, but if she started taking stock of her injuries they would start hurting a whole lot worse.

"That woman," Chiriku began with a glance in the body's direction--

(A human-shaped form dropped down by the body; Chiriku guessed it was an ANBU interested in the corpse. No dismemberment and disembowelment before a pyre this time.)

"--mentioned Asuka by name. Whether or not there's someone else here, we need to find her as she was the intended target."

Yuugao got to Chiriku before Kureno could so he stood by, not getting in the way as the monk was extinguished. The body was being inspected and taken care of, and even so there were more than enough shinobi filtering into the scene now to be of use should there be more problems. Chiriku-san was right about one thing however, Asuka had been their target, so it was likely where she was, danger would follow. It would be best to make sure she remained away from the Daimyo at this time, that was for sure.

"Akatsuki tend to travel in pairs, so there may be another. We'll split up. Yuugao, find Asuka and fill her in. She needs to be escorted into a clear area away from the guests and under protection. I'm going to look for the partner." He turned and began leaping up walls to get over the roof, calling back, "I'll use a flash bomb if I find them! Take care of Asuka!"

"Hn," Yuugao nodded at Kureno's plan and then crouched to pick up his jacket, knocking off the dust and holding it out to Chiriku. "You probably need this more than I do."

With all of the rubble it could take much longer than expected to find Asuka, but he hadn't been in ANBU all this time for nothing. "I'll go on ahead first, Chiriku-san."

One more nod and he was gone in a flash, darting through rubble and the remnants of the palace with only one goal in mind: finding Asuka.

And with that, both shinobi were gone before Chiriku could form the first syllable to tell them--one of them, any of them--to wait a moment. Of the three of them, she knew the palace best. And with Kureno going to find the other Akatsuki, she was also the better of herself and Yuugao for finding Asuka. But no, they were both gone, and she was left behind with no way to catch up with either of them. She didn't have a shinobi's speed, and she certainly couldn't go bounding up the walls to the roof.

Exhaling loudly in annoyance, aggravation, and worry for her friend, Chiriku shrugged Yuugao's jacket on before running back inside. Asuka had a few things going badly for her: she didn't know she was the intended target, she was (presumably) serving as the shinobi commander since Morino was down, and she was also unable to defend herself in the measure that she was accustomed. That meant the sooner Chiriku found her, the better. And if another shinobi was with Asuka, that meant Chiriku would have another shot at using the Genius Technique.

The main hall was mostly cleared (from what the hanging smoke would let her see, anyway, which wasn't much) except for those people who had succumbed to shock, or were (now Chiriku winced) trapped beneath rubble. The monk hesitated, the need to find Asuka warring with the desire to help the unfortunates. The seconds ticked while she breathed smoke, smelled blood, and could hear the cries of the wounded.

Asuka was a shinobi. She was incredibly reckless, yes, but she wasn't stupid. Most of the time. There were other shinobi around to help her, if necessary. The Daimyo was well protected. Chiriku could still fight, but using the Technique had hurt her--her shoulders were screaming bloody blue murder the worst in pain; her hands, neck, and thighs not terribly far behind and in that order. She could still fight if necessary, but as Yuugao and Kureno's exits proved, she couldn't match a shinobi's abilities.

Offering up a silent prayer for Asuka's safety and well-being, as well as a silent plea for forgiveness for not seeking her out immediately while also trusting her to remain among the living, Chiriku got to work helping out the people nearest to her as best as she could until people with a greater level of medical training arrived on-scene.
