It's Stat Time Again    Because all the Cool Elevenses VPs are doing it

And this time it's fancy--I've been pulling out submissions information from my Progress spreadsheet, just to see it isolated in a clearer format. I'm...rather impressed, actually.

Rejections: 10 (14 pieces, multis for poetry) but see this?
FORM Rejections: 5
(which until I pulled this info out I hadn't realized were so disparate--all story submissions are in this category, sadly)
Submission Points : 13
(including pending responses for year so far)
Over Last Year's Score: 11
Outstanding Invitations to Submit More: 3

(Woefully for speculative poetry, which I started to actually write yesterday, luckily two for when submissions reopen a while from now)

Poisson Points:  69 pages  5th Chapter of 8~10

First Lines:    (with cheats)
Poisson:

Mr. Poisson was the most dangerous man of Muldable City. His wardrobe being all in hues of magenta was not generally seen as funny.

Between Brothers:

Desty looked out the window of his friend's apartment over the city—the frost and fire of evening, in this season of short days, was brilliant. He felt a forgotten valediction on the magic he worked with, dry and business-like, every day.

The Leighle:

Caer paused at the door of his office at encampment and watched the Leighle. She was at work on a battle-map spread on the floor boards, intent as ever, but looking pallid.

Deadside Beat:

A billboard stood, neglected, on the fringe of Untown's Deadside but facing into Liveside: "Kills for Less--Hardhome Hitstrikers".

Every time she thought of it, Morgan Hardhome's teeth went on edge.

And right now I'm reworking Beastly--again. The first line is tentatively:

The light of midmorning blinded Jen as she threw open the door.

Boy. None of these are snappy at ALL.
Except Mr. Poisson. He is an exception to everything. (Except being talked up. He takes no exception to that.)

"It was awesome! I mean, like, wow! When I was hanging upside down and a hundred feet up, I thought I was gonna die! It felt like my heart was gonna jump out of my chest! I thought to myself 'Dude, that's all she wrote'." He let out a war-whoop and smiled from shaggy ear to shaggy ear. "She just wrote more, dude. She just wrote more."

"The Universe is comprised mostly of hot air and empty space." She took a tiny ice cube from her drink and delicately popped it into her mouth. She crushed the cube between perfect pearl teeth. 'Crush', the ice said softly, in lieu of goodbye. She smiled broadly, and one could almost imagine a mouse's tail hanging from that smile. "Just like you."

He looked up as he unscrewed the cap to his thermos, smiled and shyly said, "Yeah, it was pretty amazing. Standing there on the rim, watching the sun rise. I felt that I could see all the way around the Universe and for that second, before the sun popped over the horizon, I understood what it was really all about."

She sighed. "It's kinda like dying, but not, you know? You have to give up and give in, and for that one wonderful moment the world just goes away, and the universe has nothing in it but you and them."

If you like poetry at all, or like disemboweling poetry with criticism for that matter, I have a little ditty on [info]gossamer_spun "Witch Below Water". And since I've decided to write poetry as markets have asked for other stuff to look at and I hardly have any others...I need help. Feel free to ignore this help plea if you want to. I'm in a generous mood.

I'm writing one about an Unexpected Encounter and a Spoiling Pumpkin.
Did I mention I work a Pumpkin Festival in the fall-time? Spoiling Pumpkins I can be authoritative about. I can tell them coming and going.
That one I may inflict on you all, as it is turning humorous rather than angsty.

One despairs of every fitting in the poetry scene. Humorous pumpkins, forsooth!

I watched Mulan yesterday, and enjoyed it as much as the first time, I think. That was part of my college education.

I urge you to read this (not very long...only three entries) and then I urge you to e-mail the CEO of Four Paws. Thanks to [info]funnygirlkawaii for pointing it out to me.

http://www.thechaistory.blogspot.com/

EDIT: The product has been recalled, thankfully, and probably due to the amount of e-mails the CEO received. Thanks to [info]naamah_darling for bringing that to my attention. Please be sure you do not have this ball in your home. E-mailing the CEO of Four Paws to insist that they offer a complete compensation for the medical bills of Chai wouldn't be unreasonable, should you feel so enclined.

Let's meet at the Riverwalk tonight. It'll be fairly cool, but a bit humid. Frankly, I don't care what's there to drink. I just miss your faces. Heck, I'd settle for a frozen coke, just to be with you.

I'm awful tired. I blame the dilation of my eyes from earlier.

Would it be bad if I told you how much you touch my soul? Would it be wrong to tell you that you are the reason why I have such hope the human race will come to it's senses? You are the best folks. You are family.

[music |Coulton - Womb with a view]

Bout 2:33 am I got a call. Now, this isn't always that unusual for me. I have a few friends that live far away, and I've been known to wake up from a dead sleep to answer the phone, because you never know. It might be the Publisher's Clearing House, or it might a voice that says "Mr. Beebe, we have a job for you."
Warning: Chester Emo stuff back here )
Now, I'm gonna take a couple of Ibuprofen and see if I can write another chapter of Sid. There's a demand, you know.

I ordered something off ebay. Nothing big...it's for an upcoming project. I won it for a whole $0.99 and shipping was listed as both free and priority. Ok... I awaited an invoice, and received one for priority shipping, which put the total of the item at $5.45 or so, including shipping. Hmmm. I decided to sleep on it last night before paying or inquiring about the shipping.

Today, I get an e-mail through ebay from the gentleman saying that he had made a mistake on the computer and didn't know how to fix it, so he would just send the item to me and had marked it paid and was that okay? I replied that I wasn't quite sure exactly what he was asking me, but it turns out that he has decided to just mail it to me, completely free of charge, and actually at a loss to him, considering that he is having to pay listing fees and final value fees and shipping. I was pleasantly shocked and told him that it was an incredibly generous thing to do and how grateful I was. I will, of course, leave him glowing feedback.

Just not the kind of thing you expect from a total stranger, but it made me smile and truly made my day.

Random acts of kindness are wonderful things.

[music |Oye Mi Amor ~ Mana]

So I had this great (but slightly catty-toned) post about nothing in particular all ready except for my snippet and the picture of a skirt I was pondering buying, when I went to look for the picture--
in the same browser page.

Well, it's a good thing brilliance isn't the big draw here, that's all I have to say.
No wait, I do also have to say this: I have never once had the auto-save feature be useful when I really needed it. I don't know what the exceptions are, but I always set them off so it doesn't even ask me if I want to restore from the draft.
So, I bought the skirt instead of showing it to you, but then I bought two, totalling a nice round $100 dollars instead of $40-something.
I immediately e-mailed them, but it was after 10, and I was getting the heebie-jeebies about the business. I get pretty funny but less rational later in the evening. I don't know if I'll have to return one or if they'll get it sorted out before it ships. Cross your fingers.

But you're not here to experience griping per yours devotedly.

[Mr. Poisson has startled Granny by doing a drill in their emergency signals and then coming out of the cellar while she was reading his note of instruction. He apologizes for startling her:]

"Will you be all right?”

“Oh, I doubt there's any harm you can do to an old woman like me when she's raised four boys under the reign of Our Marjorie.”

“Softly, Granny, softly,” said Mr. Poisson after laughing. “I have to go pretend innocence and yet sympathy at young Mr. Hollin's club this afternoon and first am going to do some of my cover business. If Alan come by, which he shouldn't, tell him today is not a good day to catch me. Politely, Miss Molly.”

“Of course.”

“Not of course. You are a little brat to Mr. Birch, as you are well aware.”
