| | Walk Through the Fire - OMWF | ] | Hi all!
This is my second year doing NaNo - I was lucky enough to complete mine last year. This years' story is set in Antarctica, for some random reason, and if you would like to read some here and comment there will be big smiles all around :)
I try and do 2,000 a night, on my trusty laptop, with my iPod playing good music into my ears, and a big cup of tea by my side. (Incidentally, the Fortress album I d/led from you is teh cool writing music, jackieocean. Thanks!)
I can't wait until after my final exam on the 16th, because I'll be free as a bird to write lots and lots of NaNo :) |

| | busy | ] | Hey guys, I just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm a college junior, and this is a very busy month for me. I decided to tack on NaNoWriMo because I'm insane and I've really wanted to write something in a long time but have been too afraid of failure and all that junk.
This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, and I 'm going to wing my entire novel. I'm not sure if I like where it's going so far, but I'm writing in the sci fi genre so far. I want to throw some twists in it, so it's not entirely the same story, but we'll see.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback?
I'm keeping a journal for my NaNoWriMo (which I am using right now), and I plan to update it every other day. If anyone would like to add me that is doing the same, you may.
I'd really like feedback on my first post (it's 2,099 words), so if you want a break, you can go here. Any feedback is appreciated!!! Especially because this is my first year doing this, and only the second time I'm attempting a novel.
Doing this while taking 19 credits at school is . . . well, interesting. O-o
I've currently got 3,311 words. :D
I'm sorry if this was annoying ^^ |

I'd love to hear some writing tips from our Nano veterens out there - post and tell us how you stay motivated.
Last year I found using this Wordmeter thingy really helpful because it shows your wordcounts as a percentage of your total - and let me tell you, cracking 50% is a really good feeling!
I also think putting time aside every day to write is essential. If you can get into a writing habit, sometimes all the thoughts and plot planning you've been doing all day just spills out :)
So, how's your word count? |

I just wanted to drop a quick note here to say good luck to everyone who's writing this year! I won't be due to time constraints, though I might play around a bit with the story I started (and never finished) last November.
Also, I made a few small updates to the user info page for this community and added a couple of new links that you writers might find helpful. |

Well, another year, another 50,000 words.
Well, not for me (I'm opting out this year - last year crushed my fragile spirit... ), but I'd like to welcome all our new members for this year's challenge!
Why not post and tell us your plot? Or your daily goals? Or perhaps Nano veterans can share some tips? |

| | Original of the Species - U2 | ] | It doesn't look like I'll even be getting close to finishing my NaNo story for the deadline. I haven't even cracked 13,000 words. Unfortunately, I was sidetracked by a personal crisis and working on art stuff. And what with all of the family that's coming in town for Thanksgiving I don't think I'm going to get much time to work on it between now and the end of the month.
There is good news though! NaNo helped break me out of my major artistic block I had and got lots of creative ideas flowing again. I completed a bunch of illustrations and started a lot of others. And I finally got to begin putting down in words a story that has been bouncing around in my head and evolving for the longest time. I am by no means planning on abandoning this story - it just won't be finished in time for the deadline.
However, I do elect keeping this community open for writing encouragement/feedback. Afterall, it has been said that December should be National Novel Editing Month ;-) |

Yesterday was 1419. Today I got 2631.
Of course, yesterday Word decided to freak out just after I'd saved (and was about to do a word count), and then wouldn't let me re-open the document (which happend to be my entire novel), because the document had become corrupted when Word went South.
Luckily, I'd copied my novel to both a disk and my Yahoo briefcase earlier in the day, in a fit of parnoia caused by the awful grinding noises that have been coming from my hard drive with increasing frequency. So I had everything I'd written before I'd begun my daily quota, at least. But nothing I'd written after that. And I still couldn't open the document.
Even more luckily, I have fabulous friends. I ended up e-mailing the corrupted novel to a friend of mine back in Toronto, who happens to have a husband who is an exceptional computer geek. (And this was after 10:30 at night, their time, mind you, which shows you just how exceptional my friend and her husband are.) She forwarded the e-mail to her husband's computer, where he was able to do something magic to it and send me back the uncorrupted file.
Blessed be his name forever and ever.
So, I got my newest stuff back, and did a word count... and came up with a whopping 1419. But I called it quits anyway.
Today was better. And I'm saving the novel to disk like a fiend. ::g::
Current word total: 20219. Boo-freaking-yah. |

| Nano Count -- Day 10 |
[Nov. 11th, 2004|12:48 am] |
So far 8065 words. 41,945 words to go.
I skipped around a bit toward the end tonight, in terms of writing the some of the scenes. I'm going back and forth between the character's present and past. My main character, Za'tha, she's still talking to me a great deal.
I told Taryn today that I find myself making sure that don't fall into Enterprise charcterizations with these people. They may be a group of humans and aliens on a spaceship together, and Za'tha may be second in command, but that's it. For one thing, Za'tha and the 30 or so of her race that are on the ship are wearing the same uniforms as everyone else. And another, she's emotional.
And the Captain of the ship: he's not as new at all the Captain stuff.
Taryn and I came to the conclusion that in someways, this novel is sorta "Anti-Trekverse/Enterprise" in tone. Not "anti" as in against it, but opposite or the flip side of it.
Eh, I'm tired, it's late, and my brain isn't working anymore. I hope I've made some sense about this novel. |

| | Miracle Drug - U2 | ] | I'm still not as far along on my story as I had hoped to be by now, but I'm starting to catch up again. I'd write more tonight except that I have to be up early tomorrow and go work in my dad's office. I'm going to be a temporary secretary/office assistant while the normal people are out. However, my dad told me to bring a book or something in case they don't have a lot of work for me to do. If I can, I might swipe a computer and see if I can write any more of the story while I'm there if things prove to be as slow as he's warning. So far I've been informed that my duties will consist of answering the phone, doing some filing, and getting various things ready to mail. Sounds truly stimulating, doesn't it?
Anyhow, I was hoping to be at 10,000 words by now. I'm not, which means I need to continue to pick up the pace. How some of you people have so much written is beyond me. I bow down before you! Hee hee. Though lately, when I've been sitting down to work, I've been kind of slow to get into that "writing groove". Perhaps as the deadline grows closer I'll improve. I always did write better papers at college when I was under pressure of a very close deadline. ;-)

| Daily Word Count! |

| | accomplished | ] |
I've been able to lower my daily minimum, which is great, since it means I can goof off longer, and I live for that. ;-> I now only have to write a minimum of 2,400 words per day and still be able to skip weekends, which I cherish.
Of course, this leaves me just about no leway whatsoever, which means I have to be that much more on the ball... Eep!
Anyway, today's total was two scenes and 2,645 words, so I am happy.
My current total is 12,931 words. If I can keep going like this, I just might make it...
::g::
I hope all the other nanogeeks have had a good writing day, too!

| NaNo Count -- Day 7 |
[Nov. 7th, 2004|11:35 pm] |
After a rough start, where by I got royally stuck, I decided that finishing my novel was not in the cards. Thus I started a new one.
I did tell myself that reserved the right to change my mind.
So, I have 3200 words so far. That leaves 46,800 words to go.

| | lazy | ] | I'm curious - what music are you guys finding it most productive to write to?
I am beginning to realise I practically tune out the music I've got on anyway, so it isn't really mattering as long as I have something in the background to listen to except for the tapping of keys :p
But classical is going down well, as is, strangely, rock. Soundtrack music, of course, is always my writing staple.
What about you? |

I have a word count of a little more than 4000 - which is 2,500-odd more than 2002 and a staggering 3,999 more than 2003 - blimey, even if I get The Block of Doom tomorrow I will be pleased with my output! :p |

I feel terribly accomplished with this word count. Given that I started again, for the third time, on this particular "story" last night. |
