Counting down the final hours [Nov. 30th, 2008|11:27 am]

We are now in the final hours of Nano!
How is everyone doing?
Are you kicking back and celebrating because you're finished?
Heading into the home stretch and the end is almost near?
So far behind that you need the TARDIS to catch up?

Hello hello into the last week, fellow ficcers! And how might things be going for you? Run out of steam completely? Blasting past the 100k mark? Slowly but surely staying the course, even if all you want to do is curl up in bed and ignore it for the rest of the month?

I'm nearly at 40k, and I'll hit it by tonight. So I'm right on course. I actually wrote a little more than I expected to last night, so I'm actually about 500 words ahead. Fine by me! I was bemoaning the fact that I had to get back into it and I didn't feel it but I didn't wanna get behind, so I finally stopped distracting myself and got down to it and blazed through. It was pretty epic.

I'm also about to start wrapping things up with my plot, so I should be getting a little more into the story and rolling downhill very soon.

Day 18 [Nov. 18th, 2008|08:44 pm]

So it's  day 18 of Nano!
How is everyone doing so far? So far behind you'll never catch up? So far ahead that 50k is a piece of cake? The muse ran off to Hawaii?

So...does anyone ELSE end up writing things they're awful at just because of the nature of the fandoms or the plot? I mean, I worked out vaguely how my plot should go, and it's chock full of epic battle sequences. Any guesses as to what I'm bad at? But I can't write this without action, because hello, it's a war kthnx.

It's like how my first NaNo was a Yuugiou fic that was mystery. I guess that's a reason I enjoy NaNo, that I get to experiment with things, even if or because I'm no good at them.

Hi. Just saw this comm in the forums on NaNo (the Maine Forums, that is) and decided to join where the majority of what I write is fan fiction. After deciding to try a World of Warcraft fic I abandoned that and decided to do a Voltron fic. When that died on Nov. 1 I decided to try a Rockman fic. When that didn't work I turned to Biker Mice From Mars and it took off like a literal rocket. Then died just as fast. So for this year I'm going to go back to the mice from so long ago (well, long ago for me where I haven't seen the new series) and see if I can get 50k with them or not. When it's all done and nice and sparkly (aka, beta'd) it'll be going up on FF.NET as well as my writing journal [info]quill_of_life.

As for word count I'm behind. Pretty much way behind. But, work can quickly suck any creative energy you have, especially if it's one like mine. Can I make it up? Who knows. Nov. is a busy month for me with lots of craft shows and candy to make, figures to paint and plaster to cast (well, if the weather holds up. I'm not used to weather this warm in Nov.) My inner editor has been a big help pointing out directions I could go with just a tweak here or there. It doesn't seem to be slowing me down, which is a help.

So, it's day 7 of Nano.
How are people doing? Suffering from writer's block? Waayy behind in your word count? So far ahead that breaking 50 000 words will be a breeze? Finished?

Hey all, happy US election day! Have our silly political antics kept you from writing? Yes? No? Nearing the end of day four, how are you fairing?

I've really steamed ahead today, and I'm currently at 8,623 words. I really got into what I was doing tonight; it felt great. I suppose we all ought to cram in as many words as possible before we potentially crash next week, eh?

I am so pumped right now! A little under 2 hours to go for me on the east coast. I guess it's about time I talk about my ficcing endeavour, yeah?

I spent a lot of today printing out info on Wikis, and the past couple simultaneously going through the articles highlighting what seemed to be important info and watching that 100 scariest movies/moments thing on Bravo which I end up doing like every year...(in fact, it was watching that in '04 that inspired my first NaNo, a Yuugiou mystery/horror fic).

You can see it in my writing/NaNo-specific icon, a Doctor Who/Star Trek: Enterprise crossover called Time's Tempest--another first for me, the fact that I have even a working title. I think I randomly came up with something for one of those 'one sentence synopsis' posts on the NaNo forum.

I did a DW fic (of sorts; AU, an OC companion, new places and scenarios and a Ten that is very very very little like David Tennant except for her very brown kind of look, didn't feel like much of a fic despite what any of my friends say) last year, but this year, with a couple of vague half-formed ideas/characters/thoughts in my head, I realized there was this I wanted to do. Unpopular Trek series is woefully unpopular, but...!

I'm way back into the Ent fandom thanks to my reading and this week finishing the latest book. And I remembered in '05--when Ent ended and DW (re)began--having the idea that the Temporal Cold War that is so vital to Enterprise's plot could very well be related to the last great Time War between the Daleks and the Time Lords, since we know that other worlds and other species were involved. The TCW plot, despite lasting actually through all four seasons, was woefully underdeveloped, and, really, so is the Time War. I just knew, at the time, that it was meant for more skillful hands than my own. I didn't have the time or the attention span. Well, why not do it now?

So I'm taking two awesome fandoms I love and a fuckton of time travel and mixing them together. I have a few key ideas in my head dealing with the Master and Jack Harkness when he was still a Time Agent. So I also have to deal with the Doctor when he's Eight. I think I've realized that this might have very little to do with the Doctor, however, until the end--and we all know how that went down. We'll see.

So much for my idea of a timeline. I don't think I really need it now. We'll just have to see how it all goes... By the end of the month, I'll probably have a very different novel under my belt, and that's just fine by me! Ain't that just what NaNo is all about?

So it's a bunch of firsts for me this year, the title and the research and the having more than the vaguest of clues what I'm doing. And that'll end my ramble few people will probably ever give a damn about for now. :D

ETA: I've decided to do another first for me this year and record my daily NaNo adventuring at my so little used writing comm [info]3fttotheleft if you're at all interested. I've got the first part I've written tonight here--and now, to bed.

Nano 2008 rambling [Oct. 30th, 2008|11:50 pm]

I'm coming into Nano very late this year since I'm still working on last's year. In fact, I'll be trying to finish last year's Nano while writing this year's Nano.

Call me crazy!

Generally, I do a lot of research before writing.I don't see why I should waste valuable time researching when I could be writing.

This year I'm writing a 9th Doctor/Gone in 60 seconds xover.
Here's a teaser if you are interested.

Now if I can only find a copy of Gone in 60 seconds, I would be happy...

Pre-planning [Oct. 30th, 2008|03:32 pm]

zvi_likes_tv
A lot of the pre-planning for original fic seems to be character development, figuring out who relates to whom how, why these people have run into each other, that sort of thing.

For those of us not writing the cracktastic crossovers of doom, those questions are pretty much answered in source. So, uh, how many people have been reviewing source? And have you been taking any sort of notes, or finding appropriate fandom wikis, or what?

I'm doing an Anita Blake novel, so I made sure I bookmarked the Anita Blake wiki and I have been skimming over the last AB novel. And I made a note on my planning board to map out exactly who Anita was sleeping with and who she was fighting with about sleeping with someone else, and whether or not she was currently talking to the police (these are all things that are very important and change with little or no warning in Anitaverse.) I haven't actually gotten so far as to do any of this relationship mapping, but I thought about it.

Welcome to [info]nanofanfic, the newest LJ-based fanfic-based NaNo-based community!

I know how it is. My first year I did NaNo was fanfic. That's what I was used to. The next two years were original stuff, with a lot of nods to the fandoms I was in at the time. Last year was still technically a fic, set in an alternate universe. This year, well. Normally I wing it. I never have plans. But I realized there was something I always wanted to write but never had the time or attention span for.

List your fandoms! Your plots! Your pairings! Any bunnies lying around--I'm sure we'll need as many as we can get by week 2!
