About
Welcome to the official LJ community for north-east NaNo participants! We're based near Durham, and this community is moderated by your co-MLs for the Newcastle region: [info]falcons_honour and [info]pinikir. We're more than happy to answer any questions you have, or point you in the right direction if we don't know ourselves.

What is National Novel Writing Month, you ask? In a word, the answer is "insane". Our challenge is to write a 50,000-word novel in a month -- this challenge is definitely about quantity over quality. 2008 marks the tenth anniversary of the event, and here in the north east, we're determined to make it bigger and better than ever.

Shout out to your friends, lock your family out of your study, and from a minute past midnight on November 1st, get writing!

Community Rules
1) Intro posts are allowed, but please keep them short. If they get past two paragraphs in length, shove 'em under a cut -- save all our friends lists!

2) Adult content MUST be posted under a cut WITH APPROPRIATE WARNINGS. No exceptions. Do this once and you'll get a warning; twice and you're out. Anything you'd rate R and above is adult content. If it's questionable, the decision rests with [info]falcons_honour and [info]pinikir. We don't mean to be harsh, but we want to keep this community user-friendly for anyone old enough to use LJ under its own TOS.

3) Novel excerpts are encouraged, but once again, under a cut. Come November, I'll put up a "Word Count Today" modpost every couple of days at least, and you can tell us your word counts there. Please don't write your own "Today I wrote 2000 words!" posts -- I can see us getting flooded a little too fast, there.

4) Have fun! I'm keeping the rules short and fairly sweet, because fun is the whole point of NaNo and this community. Comment on your fellow writers, share your own successes, and enjoy yourself. That -- apart from the all-important wordcount, of course -- is the whole point of our November.

We're welcoming suggestions for our 'interests' box, by the way. If there's something you think should be added, drop us a line!

If you want to get in touch privately, email us at nano.northeast@live.co.uk. We'll be more than happy to hear from you.
