New Dryad work X-Posted Begun originally in August of 2007, this surreal painting went through about five incarnations, before it evolved into the piece you see here. The word 'mind' evokes something which is an attentive supervisor, or a nanny for our impulses, and I wanted to explore the state then, of being absent minded-that which becomes detached and seperate from the process of thinking-symbolised here by a fragile egg, taking flight from a rooted muse. Called 'Nature of the Fragile Mind', I feel this is one of my strongest works, and you can bid on it by clicking the picture below: | | Monday, March 17th, 2008 | 11:36 pm [kjk_123] |

Belated Valentines piecemeal X-postedThe weekend was spent completing my current piece-a sort of post Valentines character, called 'Mourning Star' whose origins began as a tatoo idea for a freind, and which I ultimately fleshed out into the piece you see before you. Its an acrylic on panel and her tail is in gold paint, so its all shiney. The concept reads thus: 'And through a congealed crimson sky, the musing eye at the core of the brittle world, stared 'pon the mortal soul of man, and wept tears of molten gold...'Anyway, you know the drill by now-available for seven days on EBay-starting bid $30, or dare I hope it be snapped up for $200... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220203456044&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123 Happy Monday everyone Current Mood: cheerful | | Friday, January 11th, 2008 | 4:06 pm [creaturesfromel]

New David Gough Art prints x-posted This piece has been gestating in my head, possibly now for three years. In actuality, it was to be the concluding piece to herald the end of the urban fairies, but at the time it felt too visceral, and didn't truly form its meaning or its title until recently, when somewhat older, uglier and wiser, it took on a whole different resonance for me. I can't tell you how utterly proud I am of this beautiful work, astutely titled "Done" it's in oils which I am having a love affair with at the moment, its on a 16" x 20" stretched canvas, and I've put a number of limited edition prints on EBay: 'Done' print auction | | Monday, February 19th, 2007 | 10:07 am [admyrrek]

Siren Question Hey. I just joined to ask you all a question, seeing as you here are more likely to be able to make informed speculation on the topic of mythical creatures than the general populace.
Concerning sirens; They call sailing men to their deaths by driving them mad with desire by their song, yes? Well, that makes sense if the sailors are interested in women, but what would their effect be on a gay sailor? Do sirens inspire intense desire in men because they are female (i.e. a heterosexual lust), or does their power only work upon men and they will be inspired with intense desire (for whatever each individual sailor desires). On a similar, though not as relevant to my purposes, question, should a gay woman be onboard a ship, would the sirens' song draw her because she is attracted to women, or not because she is not male?
Thanks for your imput. | 12:15 am [kf_midget]

Karen Armstrong: It is, therefore, a mistake to regard myth as an inferior mode of thought, which can be cast aside when human beings have attained the age of reason. Mythology is not an early attempt at history, and does not claim that its tales are objective fact. Like a novel, an opera or a ballet, myth is make-believe; it is a game that transfigures our fragmented, tragic world, and helps us to glimpse new possibilities by asking 'what if?' – a question which has also provoked some of our most important discoveries in philosoÂphy, science and technology.
Robert Fulghum: I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death.
Alan Watts: A myth is an image in terms of which we try to make sense of the world.

Rpg promo. Delete if unwanted.
It’s a world full of life and magic and mythical creatures that could only be seen and heard through stories and children’s dreams. From dragons, elves, and knights in shining armor to prince charmings and damsels in distress—and even the stray warrior princesses. Of heroes and rewards and fallen warriors and redemptions.
However they are only mere fairy tales, for not every story ends so happily ever after. War occurs and nightmares may very well become reality. It is a continuous cycle where every single creature is affected in different ways, and they must face the hardship that comes. Sacrifices are made, blood is shed, and loved ones are killed…

Storm Chasers This new piece was inspired by a watercolour piece I painted for my wife which was stolen in transit somewhere between New Jersey and Mexico, I reworked the theme of a dark elfin empress and her dragon companion, poised and ready to take flight on the lightening tendrils of an impending storm. Entitled 'Storm Chasers' and Painted in oils on 16" x 20" canvas, the original is available as a Buy it Now, or as a $6 limited edition print of 20 from the following links: Storm Chasers Original Art auctionStorm Chasers $6 print auction | | Sunday, August 13th, 2006 | 9:34 am [mercurial_realm]

I'd like to share two new pieces, which were painted to display at a recent faire I attended. The first piece is called 'Oracle', and portrays a moon shadow priestess, with the ability to see into the future. Here she has obviously seen something quite startling. Painted on 16" x 20" canvas, she is available until 21st August 7pm PDT, you can bid on her from the link below. Oracle original art The Second piece is called 'Safe Passage', and originally was intended to be a portrayal of a weary druid as he retired into the mists of time, but I painted the wounded warrior at the last minute. You can bid on that piece until August 19th 4.30pm PDT Safe Passage original art Current Mood: accomplished | | Monday, July 24th, 2006 | 9:22 am [mercurial_realm]

A minotaurs tale I've painted new piece based around the minotaur as beauty and the beast myth, which I thought I'd share, and the blurb for this one reads as thus: 'In the deep recesses of the quiet cavernous underworld, she comforts the raging beast with tender heart...' Available for seven days until 30/7/06, 7pm PDT, you can bid on it from the link below: Sanctuary art auction | | Saturday, July 1st, 2006 | 12:59 pm [siralexander]

Off-topic: Second Shift: an original fantasy podcast Hi, I'm posting in this community because I thought you might be interested in Second Shift. It is not directly related to mythical creatures, but it is in the fantasy genre. It's a fantasy Podplay, a serial audio show with 30-minute episodes, that is just beginning its first season. It's a callback to old radio dramas from the 1930s, but for our generation and technology. The story begins with three college students who work in a pizza place in Boston. They get whisked away into another world for unknown reasons, and find themselves stuck in this mysterious place. Strangely, it turns out that Mike, Shauna and Katherine are very talented in this new world, and discover new challenges in fighting and magic using. They struggle to fit in, while simultaneously struggling to find a way home, and their adventure is at times both comedic and dramatic. I hope you'll listen. The website is www.secondshiftpodcast.com, and you can listen there, post on the forums, and subscribe via iTunes. Thanks for your interest, and I hope you enjoy it. | | Saturday, May 27th, 2006 | 7:29 pm [orenaoforioniii]

Anansi Last night I decided to draw Anansi, the spider-trickster from West African legend. I'm not entirely sure why I felt compelled to draw him, but I like how he turned out.
