Anybody see the crap fest that is Indiana Jones?

Wanna talk about some myths?

Spoilers under the cut...

 1.  If you are going with faulty physics, be consistent!
 2.  The Gunpowder flying through the air bit.  First of all, if it was THAT magnetic, I don't think it would fly through the air like that.  I'd like to see the build team tackle that one.
3.  Surviving an atomic bomb in a fridge---first of all I think it's busted on that alone...but then when he climbs out and is standing right there?  Also, that scrub down he gets in the bunker afterwards, I don't think that's enough to get rid of that level of radiation exposure.
4.  Don't get me started on the whole alien plot...I though the new X-Files movie was coming out in July...

Also, there was a preview for a new Angelina Jolie movie before hand called WANTED and apparently you can curve a bullet so that when you shoot, it curves in the air (ie--to hit someone standing behind someone else...)  Busted?  That would be a good one to test!

I liked the movie because it was so funny...I got shushed at the theater for laughing too hard.

It just...didn't feel very archeological to me. Besides, the whole idea that aliens helped with ancient civilizations is a very racist idea that I studied a lot on college (I have a degree in gender, race and sex in pop culture.) That alone bothered me.

But it was entertaining to watch and ripe with a few myths I hope we see tested on the show.

Like all those bad 70's documentaries.

Chariotts of the Gods and such.

as to the curved bullets...One of the reasons for rifling is the spin the bullet to balance out irregulaties in the bullet so that it doesn't tumble and fly off in unpredictable directions.

Gods, demons, ghost, aliens. All the same from my POV. All the same silly humans believing stupid stuff. That said, because I see it like that, I fully enjoyed the Indiana Jones movie. But I never expect to see another Raiders so that makes me a charitable viewer to start with.

I am also a fan of the MST3K Mantra: "It's just a show, I should really just relax."

Frankly, I found this to be an overall better movie that the other two sequels (one of which is technically a prequel). I mean, if you're talking to god and drinking from the cup of christ to heal bullet wounds, I'm not sure why aliens being the gods somewhere else is supposed to seem "corny" after that. I liked 'em. :) This movie sort of put the whole series in a more fun context to me. "Yes, God is real. Jesus was real. Crazy ritualistic sacrifices where you pull people's beating hearts out are real. Aliens are real. IT IS ALL REAL!" The whole point of the series, for me anyway, is that Indiana Jones is the center of that universe. He knows it all is out there, but he knows better to think he can know more than that, because woe unto you if you try to know more than knowing it is out there. Indiana Jones survives. You would be wise to follow his lead if you too want to survive.

When you put it that way I guess I see your point.

I just wasn't expecting aliens...the whole thing where they elluded to Indy doing an alien autopsy was way too much for me.

1. Totally agree. If the thing in the box was magnetic enough to attract dog tags, it should've stuck to the truck bed like glue. If the other skull attracted the gold coins, they should have had to pry away the golden mask.

2. Technically potassium is a metal, so they can barely get away with it, considering it was attracting things like gold. But you're right, it shouldn't fly through the air like that.

3. This was my biggest problem with Iron Man as well, not to mention the recent Knight Rider remake. You wouldn't expect someone to survive an elevator fall of half that distance.

4. I actually had no problem with the aliens. From the beginning Indiana Jones was a nod to the old serials, and sci-fi was a big part of that.

As impossible as it would be to do a full-scale test, I'd love to see them try to do that driving-off-a-cliff-and-landing-in-some-shrubbery-which-conveniently-happens-to-bend-just-enough-for-four-people-and-an-alien-head-to-land-safely-in-the-water thing. I realise that it's all to do with how strong the tree is and it's proximity to the water, but it was be SO entertaining to see them stuff Buster and company into a replica boat-car (or car-boat, I wasn't really clear on that). I thought briefly about posting it as an idea on the DC boards, but I thought it would just get shouted down by the smarter/sciency people, and then I'd feel a bit dumb about it, hahahah. =]

Overall, I enjoyed the film a lot, I suppose - I thought the climax was a bit too CGI-heavy, but I was willing to suspend disbelief and go along with it. I HATED the atomic blast part, though - that part of history has always squicked me a bit more than anything else I've ever studied. I'm not sure why...

Haven't the Mythbusters proved over and over that nothing in movies will actually work :)

If you paid attention the fridge was lined with lead. So there might be a little chance of surviving the initial blast, but not the fallout. So I'd call it plausible.

And I'm kind of getting tired of people calling them Aliens. I think the saucer and egg shaped heads threw people off but they were higher life forms from 'space between spaces' -a different dimension- ie god like. The whole crystal skull legend is really interesting in it's own right and I love that it was made into a movie. Mesoamerican civilizations are just generally really interesting.

I'm rambling so I'll just shut up now.
