12/19/05 12:41 am - [info]spiderflower

HAY GUYZ were we ever planning another story for Mystics? I'm massively interested, unemployed, and I got a whole lotta precious time (I mean, I even have Hanging's page half done, Sky, MY GOODNESS THE WORLD IS GONNA BASICALLY END MY JESUS).

Anybody hot to trot?

12/3/05 05:51 am - [info]crackedspaceboy - I'm kind of productive :(

This is all I received from you guys, so if I'm missing anything, please send it along! Also, let me know if I've made any editting mistakes. :O

4/29/05 01:54 pm - [info]twistdfateangel - Grand Bend setting

When I sent in my profile, I mentioned a few places and didn't describe them because of space constraints. Well, Here they are!

Avalon Phantasy Phaire

The Local Ren Fest, The APP had been in business since 1986 and is open from May to July. They take a less historical tilt than most Ren Fests, with the theme being Fairies and Mythical Beasts. The Rulers are King Oberon and Queen Titania as well as their two daughters, Una and Gloriana. Various Fairy Tale characters cavort through the fair's five sectors. Four of the sectors are situated in a circle surrounding "The Sapphire Sea" (a man made lake) with the fifth sector on an island in the middle. It's all very fluffy and cute, bordering schmaltz.

Places of Note:

--Pirate Bay= Boat tours of the Sapphire Sea start here. This is also where the Mermaids, the Water Sprites and Nehallenia, The Pirate Queen, show up to mingle with guests.

--Lover's Lane= A quiet little maze-like nook, with hidden benches and crannies for hidden kissing and cuddling. There is a tiny forest chapel at the end where weddings, handfastings and renewals of vows can be held.

--Rapunzel's Tower= A jungle gym area for the weesters, with "The Real Thing" not far off.

Schwartzgeist Manor

The Haunted House, open from the last weekend in September to the first weekend in November. They have a sort of Blair Witch story going (Evil in the settling of the area, dissapearances over the years, etc.) Halloween night, they have a rock festival on the site. Security is provided by the site's "Guild of St. Van Helsing" (actors who have a Vampire Hunter persona and can keep things under control). They try to keep things on the tasteful side of gore but have one or two gruesome displays.

The Guild of St. Van Helsing takes apprentices at 16 (15 with a parent-signed waiver) and can become official at 18. The apprentices tend to do the kid stuff jobs, like ticket checks, and helping lost kids find parents. They have to keep their grades up and stay out of trouble on the side of the law and their parents.

Mt. Olympus

The Theme Park, based on Greek Mythology, open from late March to late October. By Greek Mythology, we mean Hercules/Xena power hour Mythology. Actors portray Gods, Goddesses and Heroes of Greek Myths. There's a dinner show that's supposed to look like a gladiator fight between Heroes with Zeus and Hera watching and calling the shots.

Places of Note:

--Titan's Challenge= The Rock Climbing Wall and Obstacle Course Area.

--The Grove of Artemis= Picnic Area where people go to hang out and eat.

--Aphrodite's Magic River= An updated Tunnel of Love. Dim lighting and soft music.

--Poseidon's Rage= The landmark for the Water Park area, A water ride/rollercoaster.

Hi! I'm Brenna, called Liadan, Sheryl, Frizz-head, Miss Gray, and You with the Boobs. It's great to be here and I hope I get accepted to this game. Is drool-worthy yes?

I think I've babbled enough. *slinks away on soft underbelly*

3/25/05 06:13 pm - [info]starhespera - Location?

I was hoping to get some application info regarding the city Grand Bend. Basically I just want a generic idea where the city might be located, so as to guess at the climate of the city. How cold are the winters? Does the city even have a winter season, in the sense of snow and ice? And any other weather facts that should be noted.

3/22/05 04:45 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy - Major Arcana

Here's Major Arcana so far.

Here's Pentacles.

And Cups.

3/22/05 01:57 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy - Questions!

What colour should the grass on Major Arcana be?

What about the water?

And the sky?

What angle should the planet be on (i.e. Where should we place temperate zones, deserts, freezing temperatures, etc)?

Any other suggestions?

3/22/05 01:24 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy - Hey bitches

I am proud to see that the first story has been started. GO TEAM SKY!

Welcome to our new members! Bri is playing Miriam/Parapet (Tower), and Kol plays Jaime/Star!

... I NEED MORE ACTION HERE GUYS TALK ABOUT SOMETHING LIEK OMG. :O

Suggestion: Start talking about the planet Major Arcana. Places! People! Things! I will probably post up a general map of the planet soon, and then y'all can tell me where places are, apart from what's already there. YAY!

Any questions?

3/12/05 08:42 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy - Planet: Pentacles

Pentacles

Naturally, Pentacles is the centre of commerce and trade. Many merchants either come from here or are set up here. Pentacles is like... the giant strip mall of the galaxy, where everyone comes to buy, sell and trade stuff. A giant item shop in the sky, as it were. Though Cups is a very expensive place to live, Pentacles definitely beats it out - the currency exchange rate is much higher, so obviously the only people buying are ridiculously rich. And yes, this means that merchants are ridiculously rich as well.

Climate: Very, very dry. In colder areas, you have tundra, and in warmer areas you have deserts and savannahs. There is some water on the planet, but most of it is imported from Cups. You won't find a lot of greenery on the planet. There is just enough to feed the few desert animals on the planet, and things similar to things like cacti, and beobab and acacia trees. Think Egypt, Africa and the Arctic.

Architecture: If you know those squarish, sandy-looking structures from Ancient Egypt, you can likely picture a typical city on Pentacles. The structures made from muddy brick generally have nothing more than a cellar and a main floor, while the richer individuals (merchants and nobility) tend to have grand stone structures, going up to three stories high and expanding over a lot of land (columns are a wonderful thing). Richer homes are decorated with something akin to limestone and gold.

Dress: There is a difference between the wardrobe of a merchant, a noble and one of the lower class. Merchants are out in the sun all day, and therefore they favour light fabrics, robes that cover them entirely, headwraps, and sandals with thick soles to protect their feet from the sand. Merchants are able to afford the same fabrics that nobles wear, but they prefer materials that breathe and allow them to stay cool in the sun. Nobles were a little lazier, and favoured the shade, so they were able to show off a little more - skirts and light, flowy dresses or robes, decorated with that gold-like substance up the wazoo. The lower class basically had crappy robes. Yes, we are totally Ancient Egypt here.

Physical: Pentacles natives mostly range from very dark to a medium-to-light olive tone, with lanky builds and dark eyes. There is a blip of very pale eyes among some of the noble lines, including the royalty - the Knight of Pentacles, also the prince, had steel blue eyes.

Imports/Exports: As mentioned earlier, one of Pentacles' major imports, from Cups, is water. They also get most of their vegetation from there. Wands provides merchants and nobility with juicier meats, leaving the desert animals for the lower class, for the most part. They export their craploads of the limestone and gold-like substances, rich materials for clothing and wraps, oil for lamps, that kind of thing.

Government: An ironfisted monarchy without any kind of council, Pentacles favours a large gap between the rich and the poor. It works nicely for the nobles of the planet, as they don't have to deal with things like 'the rights of the people' and filthy lower classes. This doesn't necessarily sit well with other planets, as most of the others have taken on a system that includes a senate or council to promote more equality. Then again, maybe some planets don't particularly care.

Naming System: In the culture of Pentacles, the naming system is very deliberate. Names are chosen for specific meanings, and these meanings are usually something abstract - such as "god is glorious" or "the god is satisfied". Much of it has to do with their polytheistic religion (very similar to Egyptian 'cause I'm lazy), or desired physical attributes. For the most part, people are only given a first name, but if one's is inscribed somewhere, it is usually grouped with the last four generations of fathers (A daughter of B, son of C, son of D, son of E). They are also given a seperate name at the time of their deaths, sometimes to please the gods and other times for personal reasons (like a wife changing her name to reflect devotion to her husband). The Knight of Pentacles' name is Kenehety (victorious and stubborn ruler). If he had lived to ascend the throne, it would have been changed to Sekhetu, which would have denoted his 'divinity' as the King (it means "powerful ruler", which is something I made up XD).

PLOT THREAD: OPENING STORY

I thought I might as well start!

This one involves Fool, Hanging, Hierophant and Sun, though Sun is giving me a bit of angst figuring out her position in later parts of the story. I figure if we drive this through, we can open Fool's team to have stories with other characters, which would be awesome.

Okay, the plot: Aubrey (Baby) is already awoken, having found her card in a copy of Dante. Sheridan (Dani) and her guardian, the Queen of Wands, go to the same college that Baby patronizes; Brooke escapes from Dani somehow to go and bounce around at Aubrey, whereupon Dani and Baby make themselves known to each other and become buddies by necessity. Dani invites (read: cajoles/begs/demands) Baby to go out with her to the local campus coffee shop. Baby agrees. Eventually.

However, everyone's favourite chainsmoker, Hero, is at the coffee shop imbibing coffee to counteract her nigh-constant hangover; this is fine for Hero, but it would be awesome if they could meet Willa as well. Some kind of hijinks ensue, and the four talk to each other about their Tarot and knicker colour or whatever, and Brooke outlines the basic situation to them.

Now, how does Willa fit into this in a non-contrived way? Does it sound good? Addie, it's kosher?

3/9/05 04:32 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy

By the way, in case I haven't posted this up before. Here is the cast roster which will be updated as characters are accepted (or dropped but I hope that doesn't happen ;_;). It just lets everyone know what zodiac signs there are, hair and eye colours, ages and heights, powers, that kind of thing. <3

3/9/05 04:08 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy

HOKAY. I am a big retard and forgot more stuff, so here it is.

When you want to start a story, the best thing to do at this point is post the idea here (as you've been doing, so that is great <3). People sign up, then I get to approve or disapprove the idea (or whatever. I will not likely disapprove XD). I like the general format that Angels has used, like where only up to four or five people participate in a story, because it really is easier that way. I would like for you to include my e-mail address on the mailing list, so I can see what is going on in the story and all that.

Metaplot? I haven't fleshed things out quite yet, but I will say this: Edmund/Knight of Pentacles will not be showing himself as the KoP for the first little while. In fact, Edmund will be getting friendly with everyone - at first as a formality, and then he'll get SUPER friendly as he discovers the Identities of Certain Individuals. Yeah, he'll be doing his thing all over again, but I do want to emphasize that NO ONE KNOWS THIS. Except the Pages. So you know, just keep that in mind.

For now, stories should focus on awakenings and getting to know each other, and some relic-finding. Not everyone understands everything about this (the characters, that is), so uh. Have fun with confused people or something. I babble. XD

Uhm. There is seriously something wrong with my brain, 'cause I can't think of anything else at the moment. If you have more questions, or need clarification on something, LET ME KNOW. I will work better that way. <3

3/9/05 08:02 pm - [info]spiderflower

BREE'S GIRLS

The cheerleading team at Grand Bend Park is run with an iron fist encased in a nice, glittery glove. The cheerleaders are, to a woman, all Brier Stokeman's creatures; he knows your full name, your family's names, your likes, your dislikes, your sexual partners, and whether or not you would eat a giraffe. You are one of his Girls. If you want to have a character who is a cheerleader, or an NPC who is a cheerleader, that is totally awesome. (We already have Anais Barnes who is a Girl, she is Baby's sister.) It is just that you will probably at the very least get associated with Bree and what his girls stand for, which is basically gossip and how to get a great all-over tan. Be warned.

Brier is a cheerleading nazi, and brooks no complaints. You will be at every practice. If you are not at every practice you are sick and Bree will come over to your house bearing soothing tea and eye cream with the entreaty to get better quicker. You will be coddled desperately, attend the many parties, work like a demon, and get excellent hair care tips. It is the mafia in short skirts. If you are not loyal to Bree, or at least are not clever enough to toe the party line, you are generally edged kindly and dismissively off the team. This is not to say that all cheerleaders are evil; in fact, they are probably nice, sweet girls, all with excellent manicures. Bree will be charming to your parents, treat you like a treasured possession when he is not bitching at you mercilessly for messing up, and do your hair. He is your Teacher, Coach, Confidante, Despot. You can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to Bee-Bee.

If you have an NPC or a character who is one of the Girls, you will inevitably be spending a lot of time with Mr. Stokeman, and probably think he is gay, because a. Bree likes to walk around in the girls' changing rooms ogling them without them worrying about it and b. he will not be gettin' all up ons with a Girl due to the fact that he will not shit where he sleeps.

Written up due to the fact that I have unwittingly monopolized a certain cadre of people at GBP and it is unfair to applicants who know nada about it. ;_;

3/7/05 10:04 pm - [info]gekizetsu - Colors!

Okay, it occurs to me finally that I am a doof and picked 'blue' for Hanging's color. ::sigh:: Sorry. How about Slate blue as the main color? That's #6A5ACD. YAY

3/5/05 01:10 pm - [info]spiderflower

Now that we have Brooke, why don't we plan a story, whores?

We can at least mess with the four on Fool's team for a hot and dirty introduction story - I know you girls can do that - and then we're free to wrangle, 'cos hopefully by that time Death will have more cheerleaders. Addie, is there anything the Knights can do in the interim?

But yeah, I know us Myth girls can churn out a story like nobody's business. Aubrey and Dani are already at the same college; Baby found her card in Dante; Dani and Brooke can drag her out to socialize and drink coffee or something. Hero drinks so much coffee it comes out her pores. Willa gets involved. Etc, etc.

3/3/05 06:04 pm - [info]crackedspaceboy - Planet: Cups

Cups

Cups is one of the more comfortable planets, being an ideal vacation or retirement spot. It has resorts for families, resorts for couples, resorts for people suffering from various kinds of stress(it is often prescribed for people with too much stress or emotional problems to stay at a Cups resort for a while), et cetera. Cups is a planet that gets advertised on a lot of billboards on Major Arcana. And by billboards I mean murals. Also, a lot of balls and parties were held on Cups, if only due to the nobility's ennui.

Climate: It's a temperate planet, having something like the four seasons going on all year round. Basically you're looking at something like Earth, only much less polluted and more like Ancient Rome overall. There are areas with forests, deserts, lakes, and so on, each area having some kind of tourist-y area.

Architecture: Very much like Ancient Rome - white buildings with high columns, coluseums, public baths, the whole bit. The material they use is a little different, and the structures vary in shape and size (as in, the columns aren't always round, and the coluseum could be triangular). They -do- go for aesthetically pleasing structures moreso than practical ones.

Dress: Most people favour robes and fancy draping made from various materials, both fine and cheap (after all, there are lower classes), and sandals if weather permits. Obviously, clothing in colder areas is thicker, and fur-lined. Basically, things that are pretty, fancy, flowy and romantic.

Physical: For the most part, people from Cups are on the pale side, though there are darker people from Mediterranean-like areas. Overall colouring varies greatly, with many different eye and hair colours. Builds tend to be light and willowy among the higher classes (the prince/Knight of Cups doesn't quite fit this XD), and get slightly stockier in the lower classes.

Imports/Exports: Pretty much all of their fine materials for clothing and things come from Pentacles, and they exchange water or money made from the resorts. Most of their food comes from the vegetation on the planet, and is exported to others as well, though there are many animals good for meat as well. It is likely that Wands gets herding animals from Cups.

Government: There is a monarchy with a fancy senate set up. Yes, I'm being a ho and taking copiously from Ancient Rome. I'm obsessed, okay? ;_; Communities are large rather than tribal, more along the lines of cities and things, and each has some kind of noble running it. There isn't much room for movement in the ranks, as positions tend to be strictly passed down through the bloodline. The senate, however, is voted in by the people. Woo!

Naming system: Their first names are their own, whatever it may be. Last names tend to be combinations of the area they come from and the father's name. Cups' is Levadamer fil Verutynel ili Lemminkainen, Verutynel being his father's name and Lemminkainen being the name of the capital city. Fil or fia denotes 'son' or 'daughter of', and ili is 'from' or 'of'. Names tend to get shortened for ease, so full names only tend to be used at formal occasions, like announcing a name at a public address or something.
