Cardinal Arinze is only 35th?? He should really be up higher.

I'm surprised that Fr. Solanus isn't higher on the list too (I'm biased there--Fr. Solanus is my friend...I had the privelege of praying at his grave earlier this year.)

And Dolores Hope at 96--that kind of makes me smile. I had the privelege of seeing Bob Hope live in person in 1991. Supposedly Hope converted to Catholicism sometime before his death. He always joked about his wife's deep Catholic faith....one time he joked about going to Mass with her and as he left the church, he discovered they were raffling off his car in the parking lot.

yes, the order does seem a bit "off" for some, but apparently folks voted on these? it's from 2001. i do like to think of it more as a list of 100 great catholics than a ranking :D

Fr. Fox

#59 had me really excited for a minute.

the best priest and spiritual director i EVER had was named Fr. Fox, and he worked at St. Agnes Parish in SD. i met him by attending daily mass there instead of at the newman center because the time fit my schedule better.

upon first reading about Father Robert J. Fox (#59 above) i really started thinking perhaps this was "my" Fr. Fox. they were both from SD and were extraordinarily holy priests. though i didn't think that "my" Fr. Fox was particularly vocal about Fatima, as i'm sure Fr. Robert Fox would have been around the time period i was at St. Agnes. but i still had to wonder.

i could find no record of Fr. Robert Fox ever having served at St. Agnes Church, though this church was in the same diocese in which he served his entire career.

So i dug around a little, and luckily stumbled upon an announcement at St. Agnes Church's web site about priests celebrating their 50th jubilee...and Fr. Leonard Fox was one of them....AHA! i checked his dates of service to the Parish and they matched. i found "my" Father Fox, and all because of this list! :D

funny thing is, he grew up in the same town as Fr. Robert Fox, attended the same schools and even graduated seminary together, so they must be friends at least if not relations...pretty cool!

the article noted that Fr. L. Fox is now retired but still lives in Vermillion, SD (St. Agnes Parish), so i'm going to send him a card in care of the church.....i do hope it gets to him. i doubt he'll remember me, as this was close to 20 years ago (YIPES i'm OLD), but i'm sure that he won't mind hearing how much he affected the life of one of his sheep :)

in more news about "my" Fr. Fox, i got this reply from the parish church where he served:

Hi Emily,

Fr. Leonard Fox has been living at Wel-life assisted living center in Elk Point, but recently had to be at the Nursing Home in Elk Point. I don’t know whether he has been able to get back to the assisted living center yet. He is a first cousin to Fr. Leo Fox and Fr. Robert Fox, who now lives in Alabama to be closer to Mother Angelica and EWTN. Fr. Robert Fox’s nephew if Fr. Richard Fox, stationed at Flandreau, SD

so please pray for Fr. Leonard Fox, as his health must be failing. I'm going to write to him too :)

and how blessed their extended family is with so many vocations!
