quextico, posting in astronomy @ 8:59pm: Dark Flow
I haven't seen the following information posted here yet. If it's a repeat, please let me know and I'll remove it.

===============================

Astronomers recently discovered a new and very weird force in the deep cosmos, an energy that causes entire clusters of galaxies to move at speeds independent of the universe's "normal" expansion rate.

They've deemed it Dark Flow, and they say it might indicate the existence of some sort of other, far larger force existing beyond the universe as we know it and which, well, sort of yanks those galaxy clusters around.

In other words, they think something might be pulling on these galaxies from outside the observable universe, and it's not the same inexplicable dark energy that's causing the universe's expansion that we know and love and can't comprehend anyway. They have no clue as to what Dark Flow might be.

Lunosapiens .

Battlestar Galactica
I’m watching Battlestar Galactica on DVDs. It’s a great show! Can’t believe I missed it on TV. I keep thinking that the current political campaigning and our upcoming elections mirror those in the Battlestar Galactica episodes. Hillary was supposed to have been President Laura Roslin, leading us in the right direction, but life is less logical than TV shows. Palin is Helena Cain, the evil commander of Pegasus. McCain looks and acts like Saul Tigh, the patriotic but misguided executive officer. Hopefully, Obama will become Adama, commander of the ship.

Separated at birth?

Here's a list of Battlestar Galactica Characters:

wine over water
Wow! I actually went out tonight.... and that's a rarity for me right now. Not sure how it came to be this way, since I'm obsessively dedicated to painting and sketching all of my waking hours, that leaves little time, or desire, for getting out and about. (I'm just not that gregarious unless I'm completely in the mood.) And what puts me in the mood for socializing? Well...

My darling husband took me to 'Wine Over Water' here in Chattanooga, which takes place on the gorgeous blue walking bridge over the energizing and beautfiul Tennessee River. A ton of wine vendors offering samples of their wines. Being a 100% 'red' wine girl, that is the only wine I'll drink. No whites, thank you. The bridge was filled with friendly vendors for 3 hours offering generous portions of thier offerings, red or white. I love thick, heavy, dry reds.

Fabulous fun... (needles to say.) I wore a velvet black dress in 30s style with matching hat and lace black gloves, and likely drank all-too much wine (all those samples add up!) but that's all the fun of it, sampling so many we've never tried before. Yummmmm. Merlots. Cabernet Sauvignons. People getting 'happier' by the moment.

Luckily, no one fell off the bridge... as far as I know.

Then there were DESSERTS! Ahhhhh!

The Good Old Hockey Game
So Neil got tickets to the Oilers/Flames game preseason game last night. Now for those of you who don't know, there is a serious Edmonton/Calgary grudge match. I may live in Calgary, at the moment, but I am a die hard Oilers fan.

First period was pretty tame.

Second Period: we scores so the Flames decided to punch the goal scorer, and in typical fashion glove went flying as did helmets, well at least the Oilers player did, the wimpy Flames guy kept his on. The before play resumes we get into another fight, on of the players is benched for 10 minutes and our Coach got ejected from a game. By the end of the period, every player on the ice was fighting except the goalies.

Third Period: There were four or five players from each team in the penalty box...... not a lot of elbow room there, and the flames tried to pick a fight with the goalie.

In the end Flame won in sudden death overtime (BOOOO!!!!!)

With all the fights it explains why there are a lot of ugly hockey players out there with missing teeth.

SO strange thoughts that occurred to me throughout the game:

one: for some reason they lay the carpets for the anthem out at odd angles........I'm not sure that anyone in Cowtown knows what a right angle is.

two: with seperation of church and state why do we mention God in our national anthem?

Three: Why do the flames play ring of fire when they win? One would think a song about drug use does not have the best implications about the team.

Four: Next time I go to a game I'm bringing a picture of the Oilers Coach ripping out the flames mascot's tounge.Just for fun!

All in all I enjoyed myself, edmonton calgary are always the best games to watch although sometimes some of the fans are crazy!

AT ~ Analytical Thinker
Analytical Thinkers are reserved, quiet persons.
They like to get to the bottom of things - curiosity is one of their strongest motives.
They want to know what holds the world together deep down inside.
They do not really need much more to be happy because they are modest persons.
Many mathematicians, philosophers and scientists belong to this type.
Analytical Thinkers loathe contradictions and illogicalness; with their sharp intellect, they quickly and comprehensively grasp patterns, principles and structures.
They are particularly interested in the fundamental nature of things and theoretical findings; for them, it is not necessarily a question of translating these into practical acts or in sharing their considerations with others.
Analytical Thinkers like to work alone; their ability to concentrate is more marked than that of all other personality types.
They are open for and interested in new information.

Analytical Thinkers have little interest in everyday concerns - they are always a little like an “absent-minded professor” whose home and workplace are chaotic and who only concerns himself with banalities such as bodily needs when it becomes absolutely unavoidable.
The acknowledgement of their work by others does not play a great role for them; in general, they are quite independent of social relationships and very self-reliant.
Analytical Thinkers therefore often give others the impression that they are arrogant or snobby - especially because they do not hesitate to speak their mind with their often harsh (even if justified) criticism and their imperturbable self-confidence.
Incompetent contemporaries do not have it easy with them.
But whoever succeeds in winning their respect and interest has a witty and very intelligent person to talk to.
A partner who amazes one with his excellent powers of observation and his very dry humour.

It takes some time before Analytical Thinkers make friends, but then they are mostly friends for life.
They only need very few people around them.
Their most important ability is to be a match for them and thus give them inspiration. Constant social obligations quickly get on their nerves; they need a lot of time alone and often withdraw from others.
Their partner must respect this and understand that this is not due to the lack of affection. Once they have decided in favour of a person, Analytical Thinkers are loyal and reliable partners.
However, one cannot expect romance and effusive expressions of feelings from them and they will definitely forget their wedding anniversary.
But they are always up to a night spent with stimulating discussions and a good glass of wine!

Adjectives which describe your type
introverted, theoretical, logical, spontaneous, rational, analytical, intellectual, sceptical, pensive, critical, quiet, precise, independent, creative, inventive, abstract, eccentric, curious, reserved, self-involved, imaginative, unsociable, determined, modest, careful, incommunicative, witty

These subjects could interest you

Should we judge a book by its cover, after all?
I was watching a show on Oregon Public Broadcasting a few days ago, on Nova, about Dogs and their evolutionary process. There was a section about foxes, and how a Russian Geneticist named Dmitri Belyaev bred docile foxes by breeding the ones that didn't bite him.

"Belyaev began with the tamest foxes he could find. From their offspring, and for many generations thereafter, he chose only the tamest for breeding. He'd expected that each new generation would be a little less vicious, a little more tame. But by the tenth generation, he was seeing things he'd never expected.

RAY COPPINGER: All of a sudden his fox ears started down, his fox tails started up, they started to bark, which is not characteristic of foxes. They started to have different coats, all these little features that you can't imagine being in the wild type. I mean it's not a matter of selecting for, because they're not there to be selected for—that variation isn't there.

NARRATOR: What does tameness have to do with ears, and barking and coat color? Belyaev and his colleagues immediately went looking for an explanation. They checked the foxes' adrenaline levels—that's the hormone that controls the "fight or flight" response—and they found they were far lower than normal.

RAY COPPINGER: That would explain the tameness, they're just not afraid because they're not producing as much adrenaline. But where does the multi-colored coat come from? And somebody says right off the bat, "Hey, adrenaline's on a biochemical pathway that also goes to melanin, also has something to do with the animal's coat color." So there's a correlation between coat color now and the adrenal gland."
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/transcripts/3103_dogs.html

I've always noticed a body and facial similarity in those Ultimate Fighters I've seen on TV. Oh, and those I actually trained with for a few years.

Should I really stop judging a book by its cover? I'd really like to be able to pick out the meth addicts that beg on the street corners from the pretty ones who are addicted to oxygen water.. I'd rather give money to those who really need it by how they look.

Beauty and the Beast ~ Jaimes Alsop
Beauty and the Beast by Jaimes Alsop

1. The Beast

Knowing how you loved the birds
I fixed them to the trees
so they wouldn't fly away.
So you would stay.

And you remained silent
and never questioned my bloody palms
or reproached me the birds
because they didn't sing.

It couldn't last, of course.
No new birds came and those crucified
were taken by small animals or simply
disappeared from the nails.
I was sure then that you would leave me.

Finally I confessed.
Trembling, I brought you the hammer
and showed my broken fingers.
Leaves and branches in my hair,
the diagrams of Autumn
on the sky.

And you smiled and said it didn't matter
about the birds
and drank at my tears
like a rare and fragile wine
that they too would not be wasted.

2. Beauty

I came to you so carelessly
there were those who thought I had not been warned.
I could only point to the false lovers who carried marks
where you had pressed coins into their palms
and admit I was impatient for your scars.

The rumours followed us as easily
as if you murdered me every night;
hemlock in my evening wine,
a loosened bannister on the stair.
The dull villagers and daft princes
waited still and at distances
for grave news and relentless
until I could only point again
at their jealous eyes and whisper
I had discovered why you handled me
as though I were made of glass.

I know they want to know about our bodies.
Our virginity confuses them
and they are reduced to words and silences.
What shall we allow them to believe?

We are a thousand years old, no histories
and nothing to confess.

My favorite words are the ones I couldn't spell.
"Honestly I'm missing you and I hope that you're missing me, 'cause I could use your lips on me and a little bit of Dramamine."

As I sip my rum and coke, I ponder things I'd never ponder sober. Drugs don't really seem all that bad, actually. If I were to start taking every drug I could get my hands on, I'd probably end up like Edgar Allen Poe, only.. not as poetic. Or maybe so, who knows. But really, do gutters appeal to me?

I'm working my way loose from society, finally. I keep looking around me, every day, and I see empty eyes.. I see disconnect.. I see empty. And I want to get away from it. I want to get away from your empty.

I have a plan, at least. You'll see. My plan will return me to beauty. My plan will take me back to the beginning of purity. The pure air, the pure waters, the pure labor of gathering.

Hopefully it will take me as far away from you as I can possibly be.

Now for something completely unrelated:
I will never trust anybody who claims to be my "friend," again.
