I'm new to this community and to mushroom growing. I found this one at my college today and was looking for a little identification help. is it just a regular white button one like in the stores?
I started making a spore print a little while ago so it's not done yet. Thanks for any help.

dont be eating that. you've heard of the angel of death right? It looks like an edible so people keep eating it. they die.

Right! Don't eat it. Get someone else you don't like to try eating it. That's how you survive in a paleolithic hunter-gatherer society.

I don't think it's a Destroying Angel, but it does look like it could be a Death Cap. Either way, don't eat it!

Let us know what color the spore print is, just for interest because any identification over the web is unreliable. Hard to tell what the cap is like. Don't eat it, there is resemblance to some very nasty species.

the print came out very dark, almost black. there is a slight tint of brown. my paper absorbed a lot of the moisture so i don't have a disign, just a circle of dark black/brown.

For that, I would place it in with the Agarics as posted below. Even so, there are some of those that will send you to hospital.

It looks like an agaricus to me, not an amanita...

Agreed. The gills are pink, not white like in most Amanitas. Did they gradually turn dark brown over a few hours after you picked it? Probably an Agaricus in that case.

Still, don't eat it without a positive ID. Definitely don't eat it if it stains yellow when you scratch it.

Good call.

It may or may not be an Agaricus, but with that thick ring, lacey veil and lack of any volva, it's highly unlikely to be the destroying angel.

It does look like a very young Agaricus to me.

Definitely an Agaricus. It seems yellow-ish at the stipe base. Which leads me to the group "Miinores". What does it smell? Like: anis, almonds, cake, or such? Minores often have some special, and sweet smell.

That reminds me of the European Agaricus comtulus.
