Hey everyone!

Has anyone heard the new Brazilian band Telepathique? They remind me of CSS meets punk infused house beats and I absolutely love them!!!
You can read what Spin magazine thinks about the band AND download a free mp3 of their song "Love and Lust" here: http://spin.com/articles/catch-buzz-telepathique

Hope you guys agree!

Ok, so the band Acrassicauda fucking rocks. They're a band originally from Iraq (formerly the only metal band in the country) and they've been through so much crap I can't believe it. I mean, not being able to make a gig because you're caught on the wrong side of a warzone? That's crazy.

So I was stumbling through the archives of this website I work for when I discovered that we have their movies-- Heavy Metal In Baghdad and Heavy Metal In Istanbul. I bestow them upon you all.

I've always loved Nick Cave.

And I've always wondered the origins of his inspiration. I just figred he wasn't human, that he was some sort of creature who told stories about murder and gospels.

I listened to a documentary on him tonight. Nick Cave's J-File. Now, it's all come together. But best of all, he isn't any less of a mystery to me. I mean, I know more about where he comes from, what he loves and what he doesn't... but he isn't any more human to me. He's still that creature I was, and am, so fascinated by.

I don't know many artists who have a personality so endearing. It makes me appreciate his music even more.

"Song to Woody"

I'm out here a thousand miles from my home,
Walkin' a road other men have gone down.
I'm seein' your world of people and things,
Your paupers and peasants and princes and kings.

Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along.
Seems sick an' it's hungry, it's tired an' it's torn,
It looks like it's a-dyin' an' it's hardly been born.

Hey, Woody Guthrie, but I know that you know
All the things that I'm a-sayin' an' a-many times more.
I'm a-singin' you the song, but I can't sing enough,
'Cause there's not many men that done the things that you've done.

Here's to Cisco an' Sonny an' Leadbelly, too,
An' to all the good people that traveled with you.
Here's to the hearts and the hands of the men
That come with the dust and are gone with the wind.

I'm a-leavin' tomorrow, but I could leave today,
Somewhere down the road someday.
The very last thing that I'd want to do
Is to say I've been hittin' some hard travelin', too.

(Bob Dylan)

When I'm at the pearly gates
This will be on my videotape, my videotape

When Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me

This is one for the good days
And I have it all here in red, blue, green
In red, blue, green

You are my center when I spin away
Out of control
On videotape, on videotape

This is my way of saying goodbye
Because I can't do it face to face
I'm talking to you after it's too late
From my videotape

No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen.

Perfect.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

01. "Dancing Box" - Modeselektor ft. TTC
02. "We Are Your Friends" - Justice
03. "Lover" - Devandra Banhart
04. "Funky Monks" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
05. "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" - Otis Redding
06. "Death Dance of Omipapas and Sons for You" - Of Montreal
07. "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" - The Beatles

I tag everyone to do this, of course! :)

Also, since I went to Coachella this weekend, I thought I'd share my pictures with you: click here )

I don't know how I lost it in the first place, but I just uncovered "Guerolito" which is probably one of my favorite Beck albums - even if it's totally remixed.

Does anyone else have this album? What are your thoughts on it?

I uploaded it in case anyone wants to hear it:

I can't get "Clap Hands" out of my brain. :)

MOTD - Darkestrah: Epic and Melodic Black Metal fronted by a Grim Woman from Kyrgystan

Apr. 16th, 2008 | 12:05 pm
posted by: [info]boblovesmusic in [info]music_posts

Metal Mp3 Of The Day

Band/Artist: Darkestrah
Song: Sary Oy
Album: Sary Oy
Style: Epic Black Metal
country/location: Bischkek, Kyrgyzstan
release: 2004

Located between Kazakhstan and China is the small former Soviet Union country of Kyrgyzstan. There, the epic black metal band Darkestrah was formed. Their sound is full of the best that black metal has to offer. Tremolo guitars, blast beats, harsh vocals, a touch of melody and epicness, it's all there. With these standards, Darkestrah sets a high bar in terms of using these aspects in epic and, dare I say, beautiful ways. The blastbeats aren't randomly place, there is a logic to their inclusion. The riffs are black metal in sound, but they are incredibly melodic and one could almost say beautiful. However, I can't bring myself to label them a melodic black metal band. It's still very grim and harsh music, even with the use of keyboard and piano melody lines. It might have something to do with the female voice being naturally higher than the male voice, but I think female black metal vocals are, most of the time, superior to male black metal vocals. Yes, the vocalist for this band is a woman who goes by the name Kriegtalith. And man, she sounds grim as all hell. There's a bit of a folk influence in the Darkestrah sound, as evident by the use of a traditional stringed instrument used in the beginning of the song. I find myself entranced by the entire 11 minutes! I hope you are too!

Metal Mp3 of the Day - Acassicauda: The Metal Band of Iraq

Apr. 15th, 2008 | 12:03 am
posted by: [info]boblovesmusic in [info]music_posts

So on my LJ and a couple other communities, I post a metal mp3 of the day. I thought I'd share them here, unless people object. (I wouldn't be offended if you did) Anyways, hope you enjoy!

(I'm in the middle of a list of metal from around the world hehe)

Mp3 Of The Day

Band/Artist: Acassicauda
Song: Underworld
Album: demo
Style: Heavy/Thrash Metal
country/location: Iraq
release: 2004

This band is probably more well known for existing then they are for their music, which is most unfortunate for their music is pretty awesome. If you excuse the awful awful awful production, you might find that Acassicauda has some talent and skill. Many in the metal world and beyond have probably heard of this band through the various documentaries and news reports on them. Being one of the only metal bands in Iraq has definitely helped them gain press and a fan base. However not many knows what they actually sound like. Well, here's your chance. Musically they're a standard heavy metal band, with a little bit of a thrash influence in their sound. Some of the riffs are quite thrashy, with other being really melodic and catchy. The guitarists aren't super shredders, but they can hold their own and their solos fit into the music. Unfortunately the production makes the vocalist sound really distance in a not so good way and as a result his voice doesn't sound that powerful. This song isn't going to change the world, however it is a metal gem. As a result of Iraq's situation (both politically and their views on metal), the band has relocated to Turkey. Hopefully we'll be hearing more from them (and with better production too hehe).

Starting things off

Apr. 14th, 2008 | 06:27 pm
posted by: [info]gypsy_eyes in [info]music_posts

I've recently become a big fan of John Frusciante. I was first introduced to him as a sophomore in high school. You see, this boy I liked was totally in love with him. But I could never get into his music (aside from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) until more recently. I wrote this in my journal a few nights ago. I was listening to "Life's a Bath, Sex is Water" (from one of his solo albums) and it was as if something snapped inside of my brain...

"Life's a Bath, Sex is Water". This song sent me into tears last night. It was the first time that a piece of music has rendered me unpleasantly... helpless, I guess is the right word. I wept for the artist because he was very sick and lonely at the time of writing it. I wept for the girl because she was probably so afraid and didn't know how to explain that to him. I imagine he didn't want to care, at least that was the front he was putting up --that the Drug was the only one who truly understood. But somehow, in his voice, you can hear him calling out to someone, anyone, to be there with him, so that at least he wouldn't have to die alone. I wanted to reach into the song and hold out my hand, so that I could pull him out of this desperation he was stuck inside of. I wanted to connect and save his life during those 1.15 minutes. That, to me, is what a good song is.

Thoughts are welcomed.
