Fanart: Ginko sketch

I am so not an artist, but i had this random urge to draw Ginko from Mushishi because the artwork from Mushishi is just so god damn beautiful.

and...
I was bored...so i did a sketch. XD

The shading is all wrong, and some of the lines are too heavy but you know, i'm too lazy to fix that up :) So please enjoy :)

Mushi: Malevolent Entities

So while Del Rey's translation of Mushi-shi is overall excellent IMHO I do have to question how they describe the series:

From the back of Vol 4

Nebulous and unseen, exisiting in a state somewhere between life and death mushi bring but pain, suffering and destruction to humans A small community of wandering healers and naturalists known as mushishi protect humans from the ravages of these malevolent entities....

Does it have the same summary in the original manga? Because um I would say this is the exact opposite of how I would describe the Mushi. They might be harmful to humans but never purposely so. I always thought in the story both humans and mushi are just trying to survive.

I am more amused by this then anything though. In the same volume Ginko says the mushi are not friends but strange neighbors. :)

Howdy doody!

Saeki Toru here! I don't believe I've ever made a post quite yet, for I have not many talents for icons, fics and art. (yet) Though I am working on acquiring those talents! Bare with me? Bear with me? Anyway, I have a request!

Let me back up slightly. I am going to be Ginko.. for Halloween... Since there's only one Con around here, if you don't include Anime Expo, which is two hours away! I cannot wait another year to cosplay the wonderful character.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any images/screencaps/illustrations that provide me with pictures (preferably full bodies? but it doesn't matter!) of Ginko, and perhaps the box he carries around as well! I am considering making that one if the creation of the thing will not break my budget!

Thanks a ton, you guys. =D

Now if only I had the money for one perscription contact lens that was green. =(

For some reason it never occurred to me before now to post this here! One smoked a slightly crumpled-looking cigarette, eying the other up and down with subtle incredulity.

"A medicine seller," Ginko repeated flatly.

"Yes..." the other man answered, drawing the word out slow and languid as syrup. His voice made the hairs on the back of Ginko's neck prickle. This was definitely the strangest person he had ever met; and he had met a great many very strange people. "Just an ordinary... medicine seller."

And then the top of the "medicine seller's" painted box flipped open of its own accord, revealing a small case covered in paper charms - which then opened up of its own accord. A jeweled sword grinned up out of it, the hilt fashioned into a ogre's fearsome visage. Ginko's brows climbed his forehead by gradual increments as he watched the stranger lift the sword from its case, watched his painted lips move as though he were talking to the thing, all without a sound.

"Right..." said Ginko.

"And you?" the Medicine Seller said, turning his pale eyes back on Ginko. "What has brought you to this place? Pardon my impudence, but... You do not look like a local."

"Hey," Ginko muttered under his breath. "I don't want to hear that from you."

The Medicine Seller's lips twitched upward. "I suppose you have a point."

Ginko rubbed the back of his neck, sighing, and tapped ash from the end of his cigarette. "Well, I sell medicine too, of a sort," he explained. "I'm Ginko, a traveling mushishi."

"A... mushishi," the colorful stranger echoed, as if testing the word.

"I came because I heard some strange rumors. The townspeople here -"

"Are losing their time."

"Oh?" said Ginko. "You've already been into town?"

"Yes..." The Medicine Seller laughed softly. "Normally, medicines to preserve youth are requested, rather than medicines to restore age. The fear of growing younger is... unusual."

"And then there's -"

"The snake."

"So you can see it, then," Ginko said, not really surprised.

"And the strange lights clustering around you... yes."

"Hnn."

They both turn to look back at the giant, poisonous green coil of smoke that undulates past. On his way down the mountain, Ginko had seen it quite clearly; it encircled the whole town, growing thinner and thinner towards one end until it simply fed back into itself. It resembled nothing so much as a snake eating its own tail.

"The thing is," Ginko said slowly. "It seems like a mushi called tokikui hebi. Only..." He took a drag off of his cigarette. "It usually only affects individuals. It'll wrap around their little finger, and then they'll start getting younger day by day. Sometimes it'll affect objects or plants or other animals, and there's one or two recorded cases of it wrapping around a whole household, but..." He gestured at the enormity of the thing. "Never anything like this. Never a whole town."

"Ho..." murmured the Medicine Seller. "Tokikui... hebi... is it?" And then, of all the inexplicable things, the little ogre on the man's sword opened its jaws and snapped.

Ginko just stared.

"Mushishi-san..." Another drawer of the Medicine Seller's box opened up; several colorful scales rose up out of it and sat themselves down to balance on their points, lining the edge of the terrace at their feet, and there was a soft jingle as little bells dropped down from each of their corners. "I believe," said the Medicine Seller, his painted lips pulling back from his teeth in a terrible smile, "we may be of some... service to one another."

Just a heads up: For those who have not bought the singles Funimation is releasing a boxset of the entire series this December. You can read about it here

On another note was anyone having issues with their Vol 6 DVD? My DVD was pausing horribly on the Sound of Rust episode so I replaced the DVD but I am having the same exact issue with my replacement DVD. I just wanted to know how isolated this issue was. I already ordered a new copy of Vol 6 but I am worried I will have problems a 3rd time.

Detroit Metal City, directed by Mushishi's Nagahama

Hello fellow appreciators of the grandeur and artistry that is the amazing series, Mushishi! I hope this is on-topic enough, but I'll delete it if it isn't. No hard feelings.

Last spring at Sakura con at a panel with Mushishi's director Nagahama, I found out that his newest project was an anime about a crazy death metal band, called "Detroit Metal City". I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it or not, but this morning I stumbled upon some clips from it, and one of the characters' voices sounded really familiar to me. I couldn't place it at first, but the more I listened to it, the more determined I was that I'd heard it before and it was a really obvious voice actor that I was already a fan of-- OMG IT'S GINKO.

IT'S GINKO. GINKO'S VA IS A (really fast-talking, excited, likes-to-hit-on-girls) ROCKER IN THIS ANIME.

That being said! Do not watch this anime if you are offended by foul language, adult themes, or uncomfortable things like that; this is absolutely an R-rated anime. XD The opening animation should tell you what to expect, heh.

Oh, and if that wasn't good enough-- Adashino (whose VA is actually already in a ton of anime anyway) plays the main character's rock identity, Krauser II. XD It's basically Ginko and Adashino. As death metal rock stars.

Hoooolyyyyy crap. Watch the first few episodes here!

I was poking around the other day and discovered this community! I absolutely adore Mushishi. It's my second-favorite anime ever, behind only Haibane-Renmei. As far as manga go my ranking is less organized, but I can tell you that due to limited space this past year at college I could only bring a few volumes of anything, and I chose Mushishi. My favorite character is Tanyuu, very closely followed by Ginko <strike>and I ship them horribly</strike>.

Aaaand I'm bad at intros, so...have some icons?

More here.

XD;;

In other news, I read through the Mushishi chapter included in this issue (Chapter #46, "Kaoru Yami"), and was able to get about 85% of it, and it is GOOD. ;o; It's probably my favorite chapter of Mushishi to have come out that has so little Ginko in it. It's a very simple story, but it has a really eerie, awesome feel... And daaaaang, Urushibara just keeps getting better at drawing people all the time; the main guy was such a cutie~♥

Hello. I've been making some graphics (icons, banners) from Mushishi artwork, but I've trouble finding good quality large scans of the coloured artwork. If anyone has such scans, or knows where to get them, I'd be very grateful. At the moment I'm mainly after a full HQ version of this image.

Thank you in advance.
