Hey kids; just wanted you to announce in a few days I'll be starting my 4th year as mod here. That's as long as any job I've had in my lifetime. Honestly. It will soon also be my 800th prompt. I was expecting a complaint by now, I'm a little discouraged that no one's whining. That either means no one's paying attention, or.... I'm perfect! Decide amongst yourselves and let me know. And thanks for being here, cuz if you weren't, I'd feel awfully silly writing prompts for no one. |

Wow! It was my two year anniversary modding here 11 days ago. How could I have missed it! And I'm STILL not consistent!:)
Haven't made a post for a time for complaints, suggestions and such. So here it is. Whine, bitch, dance, sing, give birth to reptilian constructs, belch so loud you awaken your parents, living or dead, or just wave as you pass by on your way to very important places if you like. |

Well here I am again speaking to 165 of you, of whom a round dozen will actually take notice. It was nice to see at least one new name in the past how long; but always nice to see the dozen in any case:) It's bookkeeping time again! A word which I use solely for the fact that it has three duplicate letters in a row and that pleases me.
Hoping to avoid sounding schmaltzy I'd like to state that I do this for you... err... I make up stuff cuz you seem to have fun with it. There, that's better. And since that's the case, and since no matter how many juju dolls I make in my little writing room, I can't read any of your minds, I thought I might ask you in my hick-like American way, "how's it goin?" Are ya seeing whatcha want? Dooya have some ideas as to how I could make it better for you? (No innuendo intended) Want more-o-this? That? Everything just hunky dory?
And what about me? Do ya hate me just a little? Am I just too indecipherable? Too irregular? (No innuendo intended) Am I the least of your worries? Do ya have just a little crush on me? Do you want to have my babies?
All that to say this. You know the drill. Got complaints, admonishments, suggestions, heartfelt praise, a case of Heath bars, love handles, carbon copies, lethargy, rampant desire or anything else you wanna express in a place where the whole world can see whatchur thinkin? Then put it here my fellow Museteaserites. Speak or forever hold your own hand, wishing things would change but too afraid to make it an issue. |

I am verbose, and still I can never say what I mean. In my previous post I was referring to those that have NEVER, to my knowledge, posted ANYTHING. I would never expect anyone to write to every prompt. Hell, I'm writing to none of them right now and while I once wrote sometimes two and sometimes ten pages to every drabble prompt, I simply had no life and would be amazed if anyone followed that regimen without having a psychiatrist along for the ride. To those that are currently involved in the group, I apologize if I came off badly. I admire your contributions, I envy the fun you're having with it and I'm only too happy to lend what little I do to that moment of enjoyment as the world needs a hell of a lot more enjoyment. I think you guys are brilliant, and I have no doubt you are as busy as anyone who has their name on the list of teasers. I thought it would be obvious to whom I was speaking. I was wrong. And so it goes. Lastly, I'd write the prompts if only one person was responding, and even then if they were writing only once a week. The note was not about me, nor about having my "hard work" recognized. It's not hard work. It's only hard to keep a schedule as I am a totally discipline-less man. I'll refrain from commentary in the future and save my letters for the prompts. Sorry for the interruption:) |

LJ communities are funny things. They seem to attract hundreds of admirers and only thimbles full of doers. There are over 100 members in Museteasers, yet there are under a dozen actually contributing, or even commenting on those contributions. I once believed that people joined what they wouldn’t bother with in order to show their friends they were obviously quite fascinating people as they were members of many clubs founded upon the creative disciplines. Then I thought perhaps people were trying to fool themselves into believing they not only had a creative bone in their body, but also the need to express themselves by using it to manipulate a writing utensil. But I’ve let go those suspicions for a new and more realistic idea. I think 90 people of the hundred plus are just lazy. Why?
Because most people use a hundred words to tell their mothers what pizza to order for dinner. I say 100 words to my television each morning, as some doofus or another annoys me to the point of rattling off a few invective sentences toward the tube.
We live in the cell phone/IM/text messaging world wherein most people under the age of 40 are spitting out 100 words every ten seconds, telling Sally she has a piece of lint on her sweater, or reminding Johnny to meet you after school, with his bag of pot and papers.
I’d say life is just too damn busy, but that’d be crapola. It’s a hundred words kids. And as I’ve proven time and time again, it can be a stupid hundred words and still qualify, so it doesn’t need to take more than a couple minutes. Nobody can tell me they can’t find a couple minutes once a freaking month.
Think I’m wrong? You’re not really lazy? Then prove it. Let’s see some large percentage of the hangers on actually join the company for 60 seconds once in a year’s time. If you were ever going to actually participate in this group, now’s the time. Between tonight and Sunday night do your damndest to make a post, comment on someone elses or hit that neat button that says leave the community and move on to the life in which you really want to participate.
Of course, we may have 90 people who don’t even read the prompts lol, but sometimes one simply needs to try and move the immovable.

I've posted "new" rules (just like the old rules). I will be posting friends only (if I somehow forget, please notify me asap and I'll fix it as soon as I can) and your drabbles will be comments to my post. I did consider the alternative, but for now this is how we'll proceed. Someone mentioned posting the prompts in public as well as F.O.. If anyone can explain to me what purpose this serves (not being a wiseacre, I'm just not up to speed perhaps) I'll consider adding a public post sans comment bar. I'll be fine with looking at this system a few months down the road to field any complaints/suggestions for change, and I'm open to comments along the way so long as they're not flames. I have a short temper and a foul mouth; you'd be wasting your breath trying to engage me in an intellectual sniping contest as I remove my intellect before any joust so as not to accidentally break it on some random brick wall.
I'm going to do the best I can with this, moderately imperfect creature that I've become in my old age. I'm here to have fun. I hope y'all are too. Let's rock! |
