A D&D character. She's a scout that shoots arrows from the treetops.

Not really sure why I'm continuing to post here. Nobody reads this, and it'd make more sense to post on my all-purpose blog. Hmmm.

Title: "Your poor hand!"
Fandom: His Dark Materials.
Characters: Will Parry
Prompt: He
Rating: G.
Artist's Notes: Okay, I kind of copped out when I drew this. I just didn't know which prompt to put it under, but I wanted to keep it, so I used 'he.'

Title: Kiss.
Fandom: His Dark Materials.
Characters: Lyra Belacqua, Will Parry
Prompt: Lovers
Rating: G or PG.
Artist's Notes: An almost-kiss is more sensual than a kiss, and a kiss is more sensual than showing sex itself. At least, that was what I was hoping for. That anticipation.

Title: Taste.
Fandom: His Dark Materials.
Characters: Lyra Belacqua, coca-cola
Prompt: Taste
Rating: G.
Artist's Notes: I loved when Lyra tasted soda for the first time. Nothing else underscores to me just how different their worlds really are.

Well, here it is. The last one. I think maybe I should feel something more than a vague relief, but I don't.

It is interesting to see how much my style changed since I started almost two years ago.

This is a quick quick sketch of the title character from Chartreuse's wonderful short story Inoue. I read it briefly once, and loved it. And then I went back and read it again and realized that the girl in my sketch is bit older than thirteen. Still, though. Someday I'd like to go back and do justice to the subject.

Print Available through DeviantArt.

Medium: Dip Pens and Watercolour (Sakura brand)

My friend Amy's daughter turned one not too long ago, so I painted her a picture of an angel. I framed it and gave it to them at the b-day party. The colors aren't perfect from the scan, but they're better than I thought they'd be.

Does anyone (besides Al, who I swear is the only one who reads this) know how to scan natural media in an accurate way?

Medium: Photoshop (I tried Painter, but it crashed in the middle. Eff that.)

A sketch of what a favorite character might look like. This is Minerva, a cloned human who used to be a computer. She downloaded her memory into a waiting body and has been human since.

She belongs to the estate of Mr Robert A Heinlein. I'm just borrowing her for a little while.

Also, this is a tribute to the wonderful and talented [info]questionstar. I wanted to try on her style for size. I don't think it looks bad, but she does it so much better.

[mood |not sleeping.]

I was reading this comic, and I was really impressed by the artist's ability to make her demons look scary as fuck. But not just "horns and a tail" scary, I mean, SCARY scary. She has such a way with character design, I wanted to experiment with some of those elements. Oh, and there's Blue in the corner.

Medium: Ink and pencil.

The end of the world. [May. 20th, 2006|02:15 pm]

Lyra and Roger, from Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. I had a page in my sketchbook that I'd torn to make a bookmark, and I had this vision of Roger seeing the edge and being terrified of it. So I drew it, and Lyra as his protector. She has darker hair than I wanted, but I effed up the line and had to fill it in it make it look right.

Well, that was longer than I usually take, especially with a sketch.

Medium: Torn page, ink and pencil.

What happens when you have a wacom tablet and too much spare time?

Both of them are kind of old, from last year, but I still kind of like them. The top one is a character from an RPG I'm in; she's a shy, old-money Ravenclaw with the unfortunate name of Persephone. She wishes everyone would just call her Jane.

The second is a really quick sketch of Cho Chang. It's alright. I wish I hadn't made her face so angular, it should be more rounded in my mind. But I like the blue lighting.

Medium: Brushpen and Photoshop.

I tried a new shading technique here. Cell shaded and then erased in places to give it a softer edge. I'm not sure if I'll use it consistently, but I think it worked well for this piece. Also, I'm totally going to make that shirt that Harry's wearing. It's hot.

More stuff from the sea. And I'm out of scanned sketches. I'm hoping to be able to scan more in tonight, but I don't know how that'll work... We just moved yesterday, so I don't know if Nick set up the computer stuff today.
