    2nd Session
    So...

Went to the gym for the 2nd time today. I did much better and there is very little hurt afterwards. I must say that I am pretty dissapointed in myself for stopping bodybuilding. I remember curling 50lbs like it was a paperweight, now I have strain when I curl 25lbs :(

I guess the important thing to remember is that I am working to improve my health and get my "guns" back ;)

The one thing that just makes me so self concious is all the incredibly buff guys at the gym. There was this one guy doing squats today that had 6 plates on each side of the bar and was obnoxiously grunting and moaning. I thought his head was going to explode. And, here I am... curling 25lbs and breaking a sweat. I felt like such a pussy.

    Hurting Like Hell Today...
    Hello Guys,

Being in College, I decided to take advantage of our $50 million dollar, 4 story gym. Now, I did chest and arms and I kept the workout fairly light because it has been over 5 years since I hit a gym...

Today, every joint is stiff and hurting like holy hell. Am, I THAT out of shape? Did I do something wrong? I mean, I used to bodybuild, I took things very light, like 70lbs on the bench press, etc. Is there anything I should do besides taking pain killers to help this?

What do you think of Wii Fit?
100$ - 150$ dollar's device to do exercise. (we have seen ripoffs that costs this on TV before)

Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, inspired in his personal life (Read from Wikipedia)

Do you think that Wii fit would actually help somebody to improve his Yoga and basics exercises?

Do you know somebody whom his life was changed due Wii Fit?

I would like hard facts you know, or you have seen on this machine

    Christian Bale and his transformations
    Alright. This guy was:
    Ripped. (American Psycho)
Then starved him to ultra skinny. (The Machinist)
And finally buffed up to buffy mode. (Batman)

Christian Bale is able to make massive changes in his body mass in order to get the shape for his movies.

Also, he is a vegetarian! He can do all of this without meat. I don't know if he eat eggs and milk, but he doesn't eat meat for his results.

I was feeling old and without any change to change my body mass, but after seeing the way he can do stuff, I felt inspired ^^
    (I don't think he's on steroids, I hope not...)

In order to get so skinny, he lived with apples and coffe.

I couldn't find information on how he bulked up for Batman later. Please check the pictures! They are amazing.

    The latest gym WTFs.
Yesterday: I saw a lady on the leg press, with a little weight loaded on it.. bouncing the sled with her legs about an inch or so. It was like doing the pee-pee dance while sitting on a leg press.

Today: A bar left loaded with weight, which sadly is nothing unusual, except there was a 45-lb plate on each side, then the spring collar to secure it.... and then a 10-lb plate outside the collar. I can't explain this any more than being so lazy one couldn't be bothered to remove the collar on each side to add the plate, which is backed up by being too lazy to unload the weight afterwards.

    WTF?

    Down to 190
While I did stall there for awhile, my body seems to once again be shedding weight at a fair pace. As of this morning I am down to 190lbs, within ten pounds of my preliminary goal and nearing a near one hundred pound drop from my all time high of 283 pounds a few years ago. As was suggested when I'm out in town I now eat six inch roast beef subs from Subway, rather then the spicy Italian subs I had been eating. I've cut breakfast cereal out of my diet except in cases of extreme time crunches where I just don't have time to fix anything else in the morning, that's a pretty rare occurrence. My typical diet right now consists of eggs or oatmeal for breakfast, Protein blend in milk for lunch and either a sandwich or chicken breast for dinner. I am visiting the gym to lift weights three times a week for a half hour to forty five minute sessions, I have been focusing on form for awhile but now I'm in the process of adding additional weight to make my workout worth more. I'm biking roughly a hundred miles per week and my physical job has me standing, lifting, running and otherwise exerting myself about 35 hours per week. Finally I'm increasing my ab/core exercises somewhat in hopes that I'll have some definition in my abs right at the get go once I'm down to my ideal bodyweight.

Seeing as I'm six foot two, I figured 180 pounds would be a good weight for me, and that my abs should start showing by then. They may yet but it's hard to say right now as my body appears to be saving the fat around my waist till the very end. At my height going too far below 180 seems insane, but I guess I'll simply need to see where I'm at by that point and decide whether or not to drop more weight by then.

    Tri's
I need some help with a good tricep workout regimen.  Mine have hit a plateau and refuse to grow.

Anyone got a program they'd like to share?  I'll need reps, sets, days, weeks... the whole bit.

    Thanks.

Oh yeah and if ya got one for forearms, that'd be great too.

    Taking it Back
So, I am looking for some tips...

When  I was in my early 20's I had a 32 inch waist and a six pack. Now since I am 30 and have a 40 inch waist and a beer keg ;)

I need some tips. Now since I am attending The Ohio State University I have access to a state of the art, multi-level gym.

So, my first priority is losing the gut. So, any tips on what to eat or what excercises would benefit me. I would love to get back to my 32in days but I know that is probably not too healthy. So, I would like to set my goal for 36in.

    Any tips would be appriciated.

    The Last Contest Post
    Greetings Muscle-Furs and Muscle-Fans!

Last week I was haunting this community with the news of my imminent appearance at my first bodybuilding contest. This week I get to share with you how it went, which I think folk are expecting given the buildup!
I wrote up a detailed report about the comp, which I posted on my blog, which I encourage you to read if you want to know ALL the details. The report also contains other photos and video from the day. However, it is quite lengthy, and I can summarise the main points:
    • I had fun. I enjoyed myself. I feel proud just to have taken part for the first time, which is what I went in for.
    • We (those of us representing our gym) won the team trophy. Go Bodyworx!
    • I competed against nine people in my class; only the top four placings were announced. It wasn't me, but I'm aiming for that next time now I know what I'm doing!
    • There was a consensus from audience and competitors alike that I had the best calves in the show. Thats something!
    • The thing I hated most was the pre-show tan
    • The party afterwards was awesome. ;-)

To round out the media side of things, I'm sharing below the video of my solo performance, to the music I shared with you the other week.

Just going to close by saying that if anyone else is thinking of competing - do it. It'll be an experience you'll never forget. And if any musclefurs members are thinking about taking the plunge, feel free to hit me up. I'd be happy to share my advice from competing, what you need and what not to do. After some of the mess-ups I had, I think I know about what not to most of all. (Making sure you don't misplace your number would be one of them). :p

Take care. And thanks all for your wishes and encouragement - this community has been a touchstone for me as I've progressed. I promise I'll leave you in peace for awhile now!

    My own rant.
On what planet does it make sense to stack unlike weight plates together on the same storage peg? Yesterday at the gym, some yahoo had stacked a 25, a 10, and a 5 together on one peg, and on the one below, another 25, 10, and 5 were together in that order. It happens all the time -- people put different plates together, despite a plate of a different weight already being there, and worse, the storage pegs usually are numbered to indicate what denomination goes there. But no, I have to pull off four plates and put them away properly to get at the plates I want.

Is there any reason beyond laziness that people in the gym just toss plates wherever?

    Random update.
So in early/mid 2007 I weighed 270 pounds. After getting down to 219 I came back up to around 235 and just sat there for a while. Then it was diet-y time again, so now I'm at... 214! Yep, five under my lowest, but I think leaner.

Not a GREAT shot, but a decent update. Lifts are slightly lower, but not too bad. Deadlifted 515 a few weeks ago but now I'll just be doing reps with 405. Also hit a pretty excellent 405 box squat with bands on the bar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNkXRABmIi4

    Fun stuff.

    Hiyas!
Arf! First time posting here, so, um...Hiyas ^.^

Ok...im currently weighing around 135 lbs. I wanna weigh more...maybe 150 or so, just so I can get better definition. I don't wanna be the next Mr Universe, but I do want to look...well...hot in a speedo ^.^ You get the idea now ^.^

I'm on the lithe side of life as well.

I can't eat a lot...I've tried, but i jsut can't manage it. I get too bloated and then can't eat for the next day!!! So ive taken to drinking lots of whey protein shakes mixed with milk, yogurt and eggs.

My work schedule also doesn't allow for reqular meal times...and i have no kitchen to speak of...dorm style living...microwave and fridge.

Any suggestions on how to supplment my protein shakes to get the protein i need to put on mass? Or for that matter, whats a good protein amount to take in per day? Im averiging about 50-80 grames per shake, depending on what i shove in there.

    Thankies in advance ^.^

    Those pics.. oh yeah..
hurrr, I said I was going to post these...

So I'm sharing these three badly taken photos to show everyone where I'm starting, while I go on that diet plan I mention in my last post. I'll take pics in another 3 weeks to show what little progression I've made, and so on so forth. Perhaps if I can arrange it, my piercer will take photos of me post workout, which might ...might show better where I'm at..

BTW, physical anamoly of mine. My ribcage and my hips aren't seperated by a visible gap, due to a birth defect my rib cage ends INSIDE of my pelvis, because of this theres a nice pudge of skin on my hips, I guess my love handles..? I've tried doing crunches on my side to trim down a bit, but it's not exactly comfortable with my bone structure.. Any suggestions?

    grazi!

PS these are not adult images, they are however BIG, so I'm putting them under a cut, just in case anyone is worried about that sorta thing.

    8 Days...
    Hello muscle-furs and muscle-fans!

I did say I'd check in before my contest, and so I am, and thus I expect this will be the last time I'll be speaking here before I compete in a bodybuilding comp for the first time :-)

Understandably, 8 days to go, things are coming to a crunch point. Amongst the things I'm fretting about are:
    • Fat levels
    • Muscle Size
    • Getting the poses right
    • Applying the tan correctly
    • Shaving off all my body hair

    • In short... I'm having sleepless nights already! But its been a good learning experience. I wish I'd gotten my bodyfat down lower, but that's a lesson learned for next time. As it is, since starting cutting in June I've gone from 20% bodyfat down to currently 9%... I've often hated doing it, but that much feels like an accomplishment at least. Currently about 205lb. Was 163lb at 11% BF 22 months ago! Carb depleting/loading starts on Saturday.

And since I was asking for suggestions for posing music last time, I figured I'd share what I've settled on for my minute's routine. It's an excerpt from Spitfire by Prodigy. You can listen to it with the embedded YouTube video below. Voila!

So, guess I'll let you know how it goes in 10 days I guess... part of me thinks I must be mad for doing this... we'll see!

    Quick Little Update
Down to about 196, considering I was 210 in June that isn't bad, but it's not as quick as a weight drop as I went through a few years ago when I dropped eight pounds in about six months. I'm exercising plenty and have backed away from severe calorie deprivation, because at a thousand calories a day my job performance started to suffer, *I have a very physical job.* I'm visiting the gym three times a week to lift weights, biking 50 to 75 miles per week as time allows, and when I'm working I'm spending almost all my time on my feet, running around and carrying things.

I've cut my protein intake slightly to roughly .7g per pound of lean body mass. I was having a hard time hitting 1g without feeling like I was violating my exercise regimen. When I'm out on the town and need to eat some fast food, I now make heavy use of the spicy Italian sub at Subway. It's not the most healthy thing on their menu, but it's not the worst either, and it's far healthier than most food items at places like McDonald or Burger king.

    Food
Sweet mother of tits, it took me forever but I finally got a meal plan!

After seeking advice from a friend, she's put me on a pretty decent diet, it's not how I'll be eating forever, but she says it's a good way to start out.

Breakfast basically consists of one or two eggs, 2 chopped strips of bacon, pepperjack cheese <3 and a Whey shake(16 0z), made from water, whole milk, and frozen strawberries/blueberries/and black cherries.

    Lunch:
Meatwrap (lunch meat, cream cheese, green onions, advacado, cherry tomato)
Lettucewrap (chicken breast, pepperjack, cucumber, onions, cherry tomato, walnuts)
Pesto Chicken, side of cucumber tomato onion salad with mozzerlla balls.
    (unbreaded)Chicken Parmesan and a romaine/red onion/cucumber salad.

    Dinner:
Dinner is practically a free for all on meat and veggies, With a Whey shake. If it's been a night of lifting(as i do my workout in the evening) I'll add lika quarter cup of some pasta or rice with dinner, if not those I'll have some wheat bread.

There's a lack of carbs(not completely) here you'll notice. My friend says that in time we'll be reintroducing carbs into my other meals, but for now to make sure i have them with dinner on a workout day(not a cardio day) and that I get one "cheater" meal a week. Which means going balls out on something like, suishi or pizza, or some good ol mexican, burger joint, etc.

okay, so now the reason I'm posting all this... Any suggestions on things I can add to my lunch menu, or hell.. any of them? Different fruits to try in the shake? Different ways to prepare chicken, other meat for lunch?

    I'm all ears really.

I'll also post some pics(later this evening) of what i look like Starting this diet(since it's only been a week) and what I look like in 6 weeks after being on it. Try to monitor the difference.
