The one lying on that hospital bed. The one that was trying to hang onto life but wasn’t having too much luck with that. Reaching a hand over he brushed hair from her face.

“I’m sorry, my little Brennan.”

He gave the older woman a small smile. “It’s okay. I’m sure you had your reasons.” Though he wasn’t entirely sure that she did but he wasn’t going to say that while she was on her death bed. While the woman lay dying.

“It isn’t okay. I left you with him. I shouldn’t of. I should’ve taken you with me.” She whispers softly. “Should’ve…”

Dark brown eyes watched the woman and he gives a sad sort of smile as he watched the life drain out of her. Watched as the doctors came in unhooking the machine she was on and declaring a time of death. Leaning over he kisses her forehead and softly closes her eyes.

“There isn’t time for should haves. Besides, I already told you. It’s okay, mom.”

He wouldn’t tell his father about this. His father wouldn’t of cared. Didn’t care. Nor did he care if the old man was off dead in a ditch somewhere. All that mattered was the woman that lay before him. The woman that had given birth to him and his twin sister, Arabella.

“Everything will be alright now. You’re safe.”
Stared at the stasis pods that contained his friends. It was work for Eckhart or they die. Really, the answer was so simple. Because he knew that if he worked for Eckhart, knew that if he turned against them… they’d come free him.

“Tick Tock Mulwray.”

He hated being rushed. Really he did. Hated it with a passion. But what was there that he could do. Really now…

“I’ll work for you, Mason. But they go first.”

The elemental noted one of the men coming towards him and he electrocuted the man. “Now, Eckhart.”

“Very well.” The older man states releasing the other members of Mutant X out of the stasis pods and had his men transport them out of GSA headquarters before turning to Brennan. “Now we can do this the easy way or the hard way.”

That merely got a smirk out of the mutant as he formed a tesla coil. He knew what way he chose. The hard way.
Belongs to other people. Contains slash

Brennan came in from the mission all tuckered out and ready to just crash. But his insatiable boyfriend had other things on his mind. “Jess, not right now. I just want to go to bed and crash.” Because bed was calling to him rather nicely.

“Oh don’t worry electro boy you’ll get to bed soon enough.” The molecular states with a wicked smirk. “Well, maybe anyways.” He’d make sure that Brennan could go anywhere. “Just trust me.” His eyes lit up a bit and kissed the elemental’s pouty lips.

“Jesse.” But before he could get anything else out those lips were on his and he found himself opening up to that mouth, tongues intertwining with each other making a moan slip from Brennan’s lips. Then again it didn’t help that Jesse had somehow phased his pants off and was now stroking his hard on.

“Still want to sleep Mulwray?” But the molecular already knew the answer to that. Already knew that there was no way his boyfriend could sleep with a hard on. Seeing the look in those dark brown eyes he smiled and phased off his boyfriend’s shirt leaving Brennan completely naked on the couch.

The elemental pushed Jesse back a bit if only to get the molecular’s shirt off before bringing him back down to kiss him good and hard. “You’ve got us on display here.”

“So what Brennan. Afraid of what the team would have to say?” But he didn’t let the other man answer. Instead he finished undressing himself before laying over Brennan and sliding up and down his body so that their cocks slid up and down one another. “I love you Brennan Mulwray.”

“I love you too, Jesse Kilmartin.” Brennan murmers through a moan. His body responded to every move, every stroke. “Don’t tease Jess. Just take me.”

Mischievousness twinkled in Jesse’s eyes. “Thought you’d never ask.” But he didn’t prepare Brennan. Not after having the elemental bitch that he didn’t need preparation. So instead he spread the elemental’s thighs apart before sliding into him only waiting a few moments before starting to move, thrusting in and out of his lover.

“Dear god Jesse.” Came the moan on Brennan’s lips. His body arched up into Jesse’s and he wrapped his legs around the slighter man’s waist pulling him in deeper. He was so close and knew he wouldn’t last as long as they’d like.

But that didn’t bother Jesse because he wouldn’t last long either. After a series of thrusts he comes hard within Brennan. “Now we can go to bed Mulwray.” Only thing is Jesse never slipped from his boyfriend’s tight hole. Instead he stroked him giving a lazy cat-like grin.

Jesse coming and the stroke of his manhood brought Brennan over the edge making come spill over this stomach and Jesse’s hand. “Don’t want to move.”

“Good. Neither do I Brennan.”

And neither of them did move. Both stayed the way they were. Jesse still inside of Brennan and Brennan’s legs wrapped around the younger man.
Well, more his dad than his mother. And even then he didn’t really have his dad.

“Brennan, it’s getting late. I have to wait for her.”

And it’s what he kept telling himself. That he had to wait. And waiting was always the hardest thing to do. Not because of his impatience but because he didn’t know this woman. And as he waited rain started to pour from the sky. And as he was about ready to turn and go a black car pulled up with a dark haired woman in it.

“Brennan Mulwray?”

“Who wants to know?” Bren asks suspiciously.

The woman merely gave him a charming smile that matched his own when he was out trying to charm the boys and girls. “I’m Arabella Mulwray. When I would hijack cars or rob banks using my abilities. It was such an adrenaline rush. I no longer talk to him and the gang. So one day he calls me up, wants me to get him out of a jam. Only problem is… he wants me to come alone. Doesn’t want me to drag me friends into this. And me being me went to him. I didn’t take the rest of the team. Because I trusted Tony…

But the moment I stepped through those doors I was ambushed. GSA agents attacked me from all sides and I was rode to the ground, one of them coming up behind me and sticking a subdermal governor in the back of my neck and turning it on so that pain coursed down my spine and so that I couldn’t use my powers. Not unless they allowed me to.

“I’m sorry, man.”

At the time I wanted nothing to do with him. I wanted to grab a hold of him and strangle him. But, of course, I didn’t because I was turned over to Mason Eckhart.

So if there’s anyone I have to forgive…, it would have to be Tony. Because he turned me over to Genomex. And what for? For money. Nothing but money. So even though I forgive him for turning me over to Mason Eckhart and Genomex at the time, our friendship has ended. And it will never be there again.
Although, Adam was probably in the lab and Emma was somewhere in the room.

“Guys, what’s going on?” Brennan asks as he enters the dojo but he’s not getting a response out of either of them. How it would chase across the sky. It almost reminded him of his powers. Except that his power was electricity, not lightening. Though it very well could have been. Looking down at his hands he shook his head not noticing the bolt that came streaking across the sky and nearly hitting him.

“Damn…” And whether it had been the lightning strike near him to do it or whether it was some other force at work he felt a surge through his body. It hurt. Badly. But there was nowhere he could turn. No where he could go. So he turned and ran. When he found his home in the abandoned building he’d found so long ago he stopped. Whatever force was at hand hadn’t.

His body’s heat seemed to rise and he didn’t know what to do so he sat down trying to think. Whatever had happened to him… whatever was happening didn’t seem to stop. The abandoned building sat in silence. That is until a scream was ripped from the boy. Brennan’s body was now covered in streams of electricity and it hurt. Brown eyes watched the streams run over and around his body and all he could do was curl up on himself. All because he didn’t know what to do. All because the humans wouldn’t accept a freak. Most of all because if he went out there like this they’d want to experiment on him. So he’d stay right there. In that abandoned building… hurting, body coursing with electricity.
Belongs to other people. Also, a Thermal Elemental can normally throw off heat or much less throw fire.

Brennan sat in the Double Helix, feet propped up on the console. He was starting to really hate these missions that Adam sent them out on. New mutant after new mutant kept showing up on their radars. And despite having to go after these new mutants so much he knew it was their job. Because if they didn’t get to them first Mason Eckhart would. And Eckhart only wanted to control the mutant race not incorporate it into the human society. “How much further?”

“Chill Bren, we’re almost there.” Came the reply of the psionic, Emma DeLauro.

But he didn’t want to wait. What if Eckhart got their first? What if they couldn’t get to this new mutant, Terri Macentire, in time? What if they failed? Brennan hated failure above all else and as soon as the Double Helix had landed he stepped off of it and started running. Not aimlessly running, of course, because he’d spotted the new mutant.

“Stay away from me!”

“Calm down, we’re just trying to help, pal.” He told the boy. Although, his eyes were on the boy’s hands which seemed to be forming something… he just wasn’t sure what. Those hands emitted an orange glow to them. “Oh man. Look… no need for that.” Brennan says before heading slowly but carefully towards the boy. “Stay on board, Shalimar. Kid’s a thermal elemental!”
Belongs to other people.

Running, he was always running. And he felt like he couldn’t stop. Because if he did they’d get him. By all means he could’ve just gone home but he didn’t want to be there. Because his mother wasn’t there and his father had sent his twin sister away. Her name was Arabella. And everyone else considered him nothing but a freak. His father’s words rang clear in his mind.

“You’re of no use you little freak.”

And those words stuck with him. Even as he ran and turned to boosting cars and robbing banks, those words stayed with him. Maybe it was because of who’d said them or maybe it was because of the nature of them. He was no freak. Well… okay, no one normal could throw electricity from their fingertips. It scared him. Because he couldn’t control the powers. Couldn’t control them at all and it was scary.

Eventually, he had to stop. His body could only take so much running in one night. Ducking into an abandoned building he let his brown eyes look around noting that it was empty. Well, that was good. Empty was always good. Meant he didn’t have to listen to anyone.

He was older now. In his late 20’s and was being led somewhere. And he didn’t know where because they’d stuck something on his temples and the things had temporarily blinded him. But once they were inside the blinders were taken off his temples and a man’s voice could be heard.

“Welcome to Mutant X.”

Brennan just smiled to himself and shook his head then watched as the blonde boy, Jesse Kilmartin, came up to him and opened up a box. Inside the box was a ring. Quirking an eyebrow at the boy then at the man that had given the words ‘Welcome to Mutant X’, he picked up the ring and put it on his finger watching as small designs appeared on the ring.

“That ring is encoded with your DNA, Brennan. Only you can wear it.”
Way too much. And he didn’t know what to do with it. It covered his hands, covered his shirt. Covered everything around him. In his arms laid a prone figure, one that he believed would never die. Would last forever. But he’d kidded himself. Made himself believe that Jesse Kilmartin couldn’t die. That because of him being able to phase in and out he’d be able to go through or last through everything. How very wrong he was.

Standing up he picked up his best friend and headed back to Sanctuary. Headed back to the place that they called home. First person to greet him was Shalimar. The feral of their clan. Jesse had been like a little brother to her. And now that little brother was gone. He could see the anger in her eyes as she watched him. Almost as if she was blaming him for what happened to the molecular. But it wasn’t his fault… it wasn’t.

“Brennan? Brennan?!” Adam tried again and again to get the elemental’s attention but it wasn’t working. The 6’4” tall man was holding Jesse’s body to him, cradling him like you would a small child and that’s when he noticed it. Noticed that Brennan’s clothes were soaked in blood. The blood even streaked the elemental’s hair from where he’d more than likely ran his fingers through it.

“He’s dead Adam. Jesse’s dead. He’s…” Brennan couldn’t keep saying that. Jesse had been his whole life. His lover was dead. Now he stood there covered in the molecular’s blood.

“What did you do to him Brennan?!” Shalimar demanded anger filling her voice to where it sounded like she was growling.

“I didn’t do it… Eckhart did it. The GSA did it. They shot Jesse.” After seeing the look on their faces, he shook his head. “The bullet went right through. Must be some new prototype.” Looking at the two one last time he turned on his heels and went out to the other side of Storm King Mountain, the other side of Sanctuary and buried his boyfriend.

Placing his hand on the headstone that he’d made himself it left a bloody handprint. A red mark that would be there on that gravestone as a reminder that Brennan Mulwray couldn’t save the one man he loved.
