Whimsic Alley Announces Wizard Rock Concerts

Vendors at the wizarding world's premiere shopping village Whimsic Alley are happy to announce several upcoming Wizard Rock concerts and minstrel shows.

On Sunday, October 12th at 5 p.m., witch singing sensations, The Hermione Crookshanks Experience and Knockturn Alley will serenade visitors to the quaint shopping villiage.

Then, the following week, on Sunday, October 19th at 5 p.m., wizard bands, The Remus Lupins and Ministry of Magic will display their magical, musical talents for guests.

Admission to both concerts is free, and open to the public, (witches, wizards, and muggles alike). Concerts will be held inside Whimsic Alley at 2717 1/2 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90403. For information, contact Whimsic Alley at 310-453-2370 or visit their website at www.whimsicalley.com

10 years ago… Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was first published. Nobody gave it a coming out party. Nobody secluded themselves for the next three days just to read it. It didn’t make the cover of Time and Newsweek. It wasn’t talked about on MTV. J.K. Rowling was still collecting food stamps. It was, dare we say it, an orphan left upon our doorstep.

Now, Scholastic is releasing a 10^th Anniversary Special Edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. On this special occasion…We’re Gonna Party Like It’s 1998!

Whimsic Alley’s End of Summer Wrockin’ Minstrel Show has just become a Wrockin’ Minstrel Weekend Festival!

Whimsic Alley is excited to announce that we are adding a second day of Wizard Rock entertainment to the final weekend of summer 2008. Now witches, wizards, and Wrock fans can enjoy twice as much magical music, before they have to return to their usual muggle daily routine.

The fun begins on Saturday, August 30^th at 12:00 p.m. (noon), as we start the festival off with the Punk Rock band Switchblade Kittens, rated MTV’s favorite Wizard Rock band of 2007. We follow with Wingardium Leviosa, Tonks!, and new band The Ginny Potter Revelation. Then we will finish off the afternoon with Wizard Rock fan favorites The Hermione Crookshanks Experience and Marked as His Equal.

Then, on Sunday, August 31^st, beginning at 3:00 p.m., popular Wizard Rock bands The Remus Lupins and The Whomping Willows will serenade fans, both magical and muggle, with their greatest hits.

Admission for all concerts on this weekend is FREE! And wizards and muggles of all ages are invited to attend. The concerts will take place at Whimsic Alley, a magical shopping haven for wizards of distinction since 1367, which also has the largest selection of Harry Potter merchandise in the world.

So the President of Warner Brothers wrote HP Fans (which means all of us) this 'apology.' Anyone else see this 'silver lining' as a crock of S***?

I want opinions on this: HBP as a Winter movie v. a Summer movie.

I think it is better suited for winter. The series is getting very dark at this point, the weather's getting colder, it just creates a better atmosphere. Anyone else agree? Disagree? I just had the idea of bundling up to see this film, so maybe I'm biased. But since the President says that WE make the franchise, maybe there would be a way to make them understand that Winter would be a better opening time as far as atmosphere for the viewers...

There are lots of exciting things happening in Santa Monica, CA and at Whimsic Alley for the second half of the year that I can’t wait to tell you about them all at once.

August is an exciting month for Wizard Rock lovers in Southern California. On Saturday, August 16^th the Santa Monica Public Library’s main branch is presenting the Los Angeles debut of The Wizard Rockumentary in its MLK Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd. In addition to the film, the audience will be treated to a concert featuring The Remus Lupins, The Whomping Willows, and Switchblade Kittens. On Saturday, August 30^th join us here at the Santa Monica store for Whimsic Alley’s Wrockin’ Summer Minstrel Show. We’ve got six bands lined up, (so far), to entertain you. On the schedule, (so far), are Switchblade Kittens, Marked As His Equal, The Hermione Crookshanks Experience, Wingardium Leviosa, Tonks!, and The Ginny Potter Revelation. Start time is still To Be Determined, but we’ll probably start about noon.

Also during the weekend of the 30^th and 31^st of August, Whimsic Alley will be having a big sale in the store on lots of your favorite Harry Potter merchandise. In addition, this weekend will be the last weekend you can buy Nightmare Before Christmas or Tim Burton merchandise in the store. We’ll be closing out that “shop” to make room for new Harry Potter merchandise for the fall, and all Tim Burton movie merchandise will be marked down considerably!!!

Speaking of sales, we’re currently having a sale in honor of Harry’s birthday this week, and in the very near future we’ll be having a sale on all of your back to school needs.

We have a special deal running for a limited time right now for pre-orders of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Buy $50 or more either in the store or from the website, and pre-order The Tales of Beedle the Bard for only 99 cents!!!!! Let’s see Amazon beat that! November has one other big event I want to share with you today. W.A.R.T.H.O.G.S. Whimsic Alley’s Really Terrific Half-Blood Prince Opening Gala Spectacular. On Thursday, November 20^th, join us for the ultimate fan experience as we go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in style. Details are still being worked out, but we’re planning a full night of Harry Potter themed entertainment, food, a traditional British double-decker bus to drive us around, and great seats for HP&HBP in IMAX 3D. Costumes will be mandatory! The Thursday, midnight party will be 16 and overs only. However, we’ll do the whole thing again on Friday evening, November 21^st for families and those who couldn’t stay up late the night before because of work or school. I hope to have tickets available for sale by Labor Day. So check back and I’ll keep you posted as events and ticket prices are set.

And last, but not least, Whimsic Alley will have a midnight book release party for Tales of Beedle the Bard on Wednesday, December the 3^rd. We're a 7th year, trio era, HBP-canon. Generally PG-13. In game we're in mid-November.

I can happily say we're active now, but we need a Hermione to move story forward. There are three horcruxes left, and with help from Draco Malfoy, the trio now has a map to one hidden on the Island of Drear. Hermione and Ron are currently dating, but you're not required to stick with that.

How does Voldemort know of his heritage?

I'm just wondering how Voldemort knows he's related to the Gaunts.

His mother died when he was a baby, so she couldn't have told him.

Tom Riddle Sr., if he ever knew anything about Merope at all, wouldn't have a clue that her family were related to Slytherin or who he was in the first place. HE ALSO never met his son before said son came to kill him many years later.

Suppose Voldemort could have forced any information about his mother out of his father before killing him, but what would he really know? That her name was Gaunt is probably all. Voldemort would've had to do the research himself, as I don't suppose the fact that the Gaunt family even exists is common knowledge in the wizarding world, let alone who they're related to.

So, okay, he can read ancient family trees, fair enough.. but is there anything about this in the books, and if so, at what point in time does Voldemort learn of his heritage and thus that he is the heir of Slytherin?

If there wasn't anything, the only way for Voldie to learn this would be from Dumbledore, and why would Dumbledore tell him something like that? o_o
