"Hey...my other log's a Redwood.." [20 Jul 2008|07:01pm]

[ mood | giddy ]

So great to like-minded fans with great taste and the audacity to host a blog page about one of the best shows EVER!  I have watched MST3K since the late 80s and have most episodes on disc.  Still missing several that I hope to purchase one day  (Mitchell!)
Must say that I LOVE most episodses but some do stand out above others for me:

The Day The Earth Froze
Sword and the Dragon
The Painted Hills
Night of the Bloodbeast
The Projected Man
Sampson Vs the Vampire Women
Santa Claus

The list goes on!!!

Are any of you fans in England?  I am an American here and curious if any of you fans are over here with me!

Of course nothing beats when a horror film uses stock footage of
World War II for their film.

Bonjourno, folks! I saw this community the other day and asked to join, but haven't had time to post yet. My brief history in MST3K )
My sister's boyfriend has a night every month where he gets friends together and watches MSTs all night.

Hola. First post. Name's Dani, and I'm still kind of new to mst3k, though I'm sure I've seen it before, but through my hunting for episodes, I've found my favorite.

Which ... well ... is this one.

Not really sure why, though. Ha ha. It just really makes me smile.
Plus, the line "you'll never be able to wash the stain off your soul" has stuck with me to the point where when I'm washing my feet in the shower, it's all I can think about.

Nice to meet you all.

What's the cheapest you have been able to find volumes for? At my local "indie" (for lack of a better term) music store Sound Garden has almost every volume available from about $35, though some are the usual $50. Still, you can't even find them on Amazon/ebay for $35. They also carry The Film Crew dvds, which would have been awesome had I known they had them before I bought them online.

I'm also wondering how many people bought the OOP Volume 10 after it was pulled from shelves. Or am I the only one that shelled out the $90 for essentially one episode (I bought 10.2 before the original). And for my third question, anyone have a Volume 9 or Beginning of the End they're looking to sell?

Here I was, on my Livejournal. I'd been meaning to search for MST3K communities for a while, and as I begun to type it in, I glanced at the spotlight, and there is was.

I swear to you, it was meant to be!!! =DDD

Anyway, I discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000 when I was young, and I watched it even though the siluettes in the corner scared me.

  • What's your favorite episode?
That's a toughie, but Pumaman and The Final Sacrifice never get old.
  • When does MST come up in everyday life?
I resist the urge to make MST-like jokes during movies. My friend and I almost got kicked out of Narnia for that. xD

Hello, Dad. It's been a long time. And I miss you. I want to know what happened to you.
    I died.

What episode had something going on with the microorganisms in Mike's eyelashes? I don't remember if they were Nanites or other small creatures. It's been literally 11 years since I've seen that episode. THANK YOU!

And now I will watch "Manos" with a long-neck Corona. :)

What are your favorite MST3K quotes?

    "That's not a name! That's a bad scrabble hand!" - Servo

"Hey, Mike, you think you can toss me my calculations? Thanks! Ah, here it is. "Breach Hull - All Die." Even had it underlined." -crow

"Well believe me, Mike, I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid... and I went ahead anyway" - Crow

    Hi all! [19 Jul 2008|09:21am]

    russ_arulo
I'm a couple of days old to this community, but this is my first post. I didn't know about MST3k until I was about 11 years ago, and my first exposure was the movie. Since then, I've downloaded all the seasons and watched all the episodes I could bear to watch. Some of those movies were just awful...like "Mighty Jack" and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". Oh, how they hurt me.

The first proper episode I was exposed to was due to a fellow MST3k-phile friend of mine: "The Brain That Wouldn't Die". To this day, that remains among my top five favorite episodes.

What episode is the hardest for me to get through? Ooh...I think that distinction goes to "San Francisco International". Yes, it managed to beat out "Alien from L.A." and anything Roger Corman did.

MST3k doesn't come up often for me in everyday life, but when it does, there is always a lot of joy that comes with it. Case in point: a few years back, I stayed with my indoctrinator for Thanksgiving. He and his family always go to the theaters on Thanksgiving Day, since there would be barely anyone else around. They elected to see "Elf", I chose "Gothika". I was the only person present for that showing. So, I kicked my feet up and riffed away. Such joy!

I don't think one episode is enough to indoctrinate someone; I was shown three in a row and "Brain That Wouldn't Die" happened to be the best of the three. So, my three would be that one, "The Horror of Party Beach" and "The Wild Wild World of Batwoman".

Now, I have to send you to Hell.

but I'm wondering what everyone thinks was the worst B-movie that Mike/Joel and the bots were subjected to.  My vote is on Hell Cats, that movie was so beyond bad that it was almost painful to watch even with the amazing three making jokes about it all the way through.  Anyone else have an opinion?

Good Evening! This Week, Membership Up by 60%! [19 Jul 2008|03:00am]

I was out dancing tonight, hopefully I wasn't doing the Giant Toddler Dance or even the Wounded Turkey, but as such, this post is a little late. Also, it is a cut and paste of yesterday.

PUT YOUR INTRODUCTIONS IN ME :O OM NOM NOM
(I'd do the blinking text, but all my knowledge of web design and usability are forcing me not to)

Welcome welcome welcome everyone! It is an exciting time to be here at the MST3k LJ community. There are enough of us now to take over a county fair, then we can take over the state's fair, then the world's fair, then the universe's fair! I mean, well, its awfuly nice to see so many more MSTies out there in LJ land. We have had a glut of posts that all seem to cover the same things. These are things like:
    • What's your favorite episode?
    • What's the first episode you saw?
    • What's the episode you just can't get through?
    • When does MST come up in everyday life?
    • What's the best episode to indoctrinate someone with?
If you want to know and express these things, scroll through the community and comment there. That will make the posts more robust and people more likely to hear about your experience. And now, here are the posting rules.

    Some Posting Advice
    1. We know that The Island was a re-make of parts: the clonus horror
    2. The crew is riffing on far more popular movies these days, and sometimes even good movies. To find out more, search the internets on RiffTrax and Cinematic Titanic, then search LJ for their respective communities. Check out MST3k.com while you're at it.
    3. A lot of episodes are on YouTube, pretty much all of them are available via DAPcentral and MySpleen. DVDs were available from Rhino, now from Shout Factory.
    4. We love Mike and Joel, Trace and Bill's Crows, all of the Mads, CC and SciFi episodes, and yes, even both Servos, so please, no "which is better?" posts.
    5. Google is your friend! [along with other search engines] Before posting a question about an episode, character, season, etc, type mst3k and with the information your remember into a search box. If you do some research and still can't answer the question - or even if you can and think your findings are interesting - then go ahead and post it here
    6. Off-topic posts are anything that does not reference MST3k, specifically. Examples of posts that fit this rule, but are still somewhat off-topic include:
      • Movies that should have been MST'ed
      • Bad movies or media in general
      • Long posts about your own projects involving movie riffing outside of an LJ-cut tag
These posts aren't forbidden by any means. If you will be posting things like this, use the lj-cut tag if the post is longer than a few sentences [one paragraph] and indicate that you do understand that your post isn't totally on-topic.
    7. Most of us know about the book (The Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, written after season 6), even though I (funkychipmunk) forget about it a lot.
    8. Big pics behind a cut, of course.
    9. Watch out for snakes

come on, kid, give us a hearty "rowsdower!" [19 Jul 2008|09:54pm]

    [ mood | geeky ]

Hey-o! This is a momentous moment: my first post! Hopefully it shall not be the last.

Of course I adore this show; none of us would be here if we didn't devour these works of art/pop culture genius with insatiable glee. I feel a little lacking, though. For though I've been a fan of this show since 1999, when I saw my first MST -- "The Screaming Skull" -- I am woefully uneducated on the Joel/Comedy Central years.

Would anyone like to recommend a few stellars for me to Google/Youtube? "Leech Woman" and "Mitchell" are already tops of the list, but I'd love to hear what my fellow MSTies think is A+ viewing.

Oh, and if I have to pick a favorite episode, it'll have to be "The Final Sacrifice". Canada bashing + a hero named Zapp Rowsdower + Garth Vader = PRICELESS.

P.S.: Could I also get some recs for quality MST icons? THANKS!

So I finally forced myself to get through "Hamlet" (which I enjoyed, surprisingly) but one riff really caught my attention:

    Mary Pickford as Ophelia.

It caught me completely off-guard, but in a good way. I'm a huge Pickford fan (note icon) and it made me super excited in a geeky way.

What obscure "I-can't-believe-someone-besides-me-knows-this" references have been made that have made you dork out?

The one thing I regret more then anything? I couldn't get my free tickets to Comic Con this year. Patton Oswalt on the MST3K panel. *sigh* But, you know, being that I am a local I could have just paid for tickets (sold out) or GONE (working that day.) so here's hoping someone tapes it and puts it on YouTube. Here's hoping he references it in the CoC show later that night. That I could get tickets to see.

    Anywhoo...

Firstly, it's been several days of ICON LOVE. There are kindred spirits here.

And secondly, there is nothing better the Grandfather Frost. I mean yes, Manos and Space Mutiny have a place in my heart. But none of them imprint on geese.

    That is all.

It's always awesome to see MST3k references on unrelated websites. Check out this gem I found tonight on Spamusement:

    http://spamusement.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10945

There's another one, but it's way old and I saw it a couple of years ago. I'll have to dig it up.

On a semi-related note, I'm considering creating a Horde side character on WoW and naming him Big MclargeHuge :D

OKAY.. so make all the jokes you want about how people in the movie 'Fargo' speak.. it's NOT how the majority of us MINNESOTANS talk.. atleast not down here in the civilized 'Twin Cities' fer shure

That said.. I.. am from Minnesota . . have been almost all of my life, and I had a rather ODD situation going on here in Minneapolis for a period of time back in the late 1980's
    ---------
(Let me put this into perspective).. A few weeks back I was sifting through boxes I had moved into my latest apartment, purging stuff I no longer need .. and I came across an old phone number and address book.. from about 1988-89. looking through the pages brought back MANY fond memories of my days in the late 1980's when I worked at a local establishment..and they granted me the ability to showcase some local talent.
I have been VERY blessed to be around when Magick happens.. and this is one shining example

    more about  )
    ----------------
looking back COLOR ME 'EMBARRASSED'.. and now.. 'HAPPY' to say.. I didn't realize till late in the run of the comedy shop.. that I had the BEST group of comedians this state had probably EVER seen as an ensemble.. and that may also spill over to one of the best casts of a comedy show.. in the country.. no...World __nay__UNIVERSE ! !

I still have my original tapes somewhere around here from when they were showing their stuff on local tv stations..(KTMA-TV channel #23 -- local UHF) and they would have my friend Michael Todd be a guest host on the station once in awhile for filling in between regular afternoon movies.. and also for introducing shows such as this, and Michael was also the local "Host" of the yearly Halloween Night showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for over 10 years at the UPTOWN
theatre. (GAWD I miss those days..lol) I used to help co-write some of HIS stuff for his little dog and pony show.. and he was the one who first introduced me to these great folks.
(Unfortunately for ALL OF US.. "Carrot Top" stole Michael's act and RUINED IT !)

Since we Are talking about MST3k.. here's a little (live version) tune for 'the crew' ...

    --------------
I hope you folks who get to visit Comic-Con have a GREAT time and if you get a chance... ask some of the 'kids' if they remember working a comedy shop in Minneapolis at "The 90's" back in the late 1980's

    onward and upward!
    Richard/BEAR

    P.S.
I haven't posted much here on LJ over the months I've been around so if my "behind the cuts" don't work right.. please forgive?! So as I was saying..
I've been on LJ for several months now.. and I never knew this group existed until the focus on other activity put it in front of me.. Thanks to you folks for being here and "keeping the 'tapes' circulating"..( now available on YouTube and I have seen some on DVD) and BIG THANKS to LJ for hosting such a GREAT and diverse forum..
