11:08 am - Review: Knights of the Dinner Table
MSG™ got reviewed in Knights of the Dinner Table #150 by Ashok Desai:

In most games where corporations make an appearance they tend to be treated more like private armies with the PR sense of a public puppy hanging ceremony. For some reason you can never quite believe that people actually buy their products, or that they could never really get away with the criminal activities they engage in. The companies involved in MSG™ are amoral certainly, but the onus is very much placed on public relations and sales. The whole book is written in a chirpy, friendly tone such as you might expect of a glassy-eyed air hostess, even when quite dark subjects are being discussed. The effect is strangely disturbing, and actually made me feel quite uncomfortable after a while. On the surface the text has the playful kind of tone that you’d happily buy a second-hand car from, but underneath the game has a very wry, cynical and above all observant sense of humour.

In all honesty the book makes my flesh crawl, but in a very real way that proves how effective it is in evoking its chosen atmosphere. It’s very rare indeed for a simple RPG to elicit any emotional response at all in me. Here we have a game that sets out to show you corporations that wear a painted clown’s smile across a face that is indifferent to all the suffering and harm it causes to the world, so long as the money keeps rolling in. OK there is definitely some hyperbole going on in the situations you’re presented with as examples. You’re never likely to see the likes of Sony or Microsoft gassing whole towns to death as a marketing ploy, or killing a young boy’s puppy because he’s diluting the breed, but after a few minutes of reading MSG™ you might just believe that they would.

With a name like Robot Viking, you know what Ed Grabaniowski's blog is about. Anyway, over there, Chris Braak wrote up a detailed playtest review of MSG™ Executive Edition today. He calls it "a hilarious good time". Which is nice.

07:44 pm - MSG™ Executive Edition available at IPR
MSG™ Executive Edition can now be pre-ordered in print and bought in a lovely bookmarked PDF version at Indie Press Revolution.

The boys at IPR can't be praised enough for their commitment to getting good, interesting games out there. And they read everything they sell. Also, they distribute to shops. Which means I have distribution. Genius.

I'm proud to announce that you can now buy MSG™ at the Indie RPGS UnStore.

I still have a handful in my mitts, which are still available for the price of £7, as opposed to the current Unstore price point, which is $22, and is likely to go up in future for various reasons related to breaking even and the cuts that distrbutors have to take so they stay in business.

The UnStore is home to lots of brilliant games, my favourite of which is Dogs in the Vineyard, which I would recommend to anyone who is interested in what you can do with an RPG.

09:10 pm - Profitable genocide, your reign is over
Now. This is more like it. I saw this ages and ages ago, but it only occurred to me today that the whole video's a Situation from start to appalling, shambolic finish, with Freelancers and a creepy Asset girl and everything. This is how we roll risk.

Atari Teenage Riot with "Revolution Action", then. Alec Empire, the Company salutes you.

In other news, I am about to sign a contract. Which means MSG™ may soon be in shops.

Stills! )
