Artists To Watch #4

Stars Go Dim is a rock/pop band that you'll want to listen to over and over again. Their debut album is called Love Gone Mad is full of infectious tunes that will have you singing along after one listen. Their music is a mixture of pop/rock and they add a pinch of soul just to make it a bit different. If these guys don't break through to the mainstream, my faith in the music industry will be totally lost.

Why?

They've got the songwriting talent. They've got the vocals. Oh and to sweeten the pot a little, they are easy on the eyes too. Don't believe me? Click here to see a picture.

Of course, looks are secondary, right? Its the music that matters. So you'll want to listen to Get Over It, Catch Me If You Can and Come Around.

They've been compared to Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw and John Mayer. That's a bunch of weighty comparisons but I think this is one band that's up to it, though in my opinion, they rock more than any of those artists. If I had to offer up a comparison, I'd say more Maroon 5.

What else can I say about these boys from Tulsa? They rock! And you should definitely check out their music. You can listen to song clips and other fun stuff at their website here. Want to buy Love Gone Mad? Go to iTunes

Fans of female rockers will be excited to hear Ten Year Vamp. This band, fronted by Debbie Gabrione is one that will come up to you and smack you in the head and force you to listen. The songs are gritty and Debbie's voice is far from those little girl voices that dominate the charts, in fact she's somewhere along the lines of Gwen Stefani with a heaping spoonful of Lita Ford's sexiness to add flavor to the mix.

The album Don't Act Like You Know Me is best played loud. Recommended listening from that album? Never Know, Rockstar and Faked It.

Ten Year Vamp is the kind of band you want to see live and then follow them around the country, if they were touring the country.

What sets them apart from other girl fronted rock bands is that they are more rock than punk and they don't sell themselves on image though they certainly could. Debbie Gabrione isn't hard on the eyes at all, but Ten Year Vamp deliver music, plain and simple. This is a jeans and t-shirts kind of band.

If proof of their rocking goodness is needed, check them out rocking Madonna's Like A Prayer here. Visit their website here. Buy Don't Act Like You Know Me on iTunes.

David Wilcox is one of those artists that people like me who love classic artists like James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot look for and when we find them, we squee a lot and do happy dances for hours.

OK, maybe other people don't but I do.

David's latest release Open Hand is just a magnificent piece of art. Yes, I said art. When songs are this finely crafted and the vocals so good, it takes a step above being just music.

I found it pretty hard to believe that this was his 16th album.

16!!

It makes a person wonder why he isn't a household name.

Songs like Open Hand and Dream Again speak to the listener's heart. Modern World is song that anyone that watched The Jetsons or any other futuristic TV Show can relate to, especially when he asks about the flying cars that we should be driving around now.

There aren't any fancy instruments used on Open Hand, just your basics. The stripped down sound seems perfectly suited for a small intimate venue, and after listening to this album, you'll probably be wanting to catch him at such a place.

Visit David Wilcox's website here. Buy Open Hand at CD Baby
