Guess My Friends Can't Stand The Cold [05 Sep 2008|11:04am]

cube_166
[ mood | cold ]

God it's cold today. I woke up in a big pile of coldness. It seems some idiot (me) left my window open and all through the night the coldness had been creeping in ready to spring on me when I least expected it. Anyway I'm not the weather forecast so I won't go on about. Imagine if I was the weather forecast though. I could change the weather to be whatever I wanted it to be. I'd make it be tropical weather in England. That would be seriously awesome. Although I would stop liking it after a couple of days and I'd be really hot and uncomfortable and would have to buy a swimming pool. Because that's the way of the world.

Anyway what was I going to talk about today? Something interesting no doubt. Or actually... who knows? It could really be anything at this point in time. Without the compass of a writer's block question to steer my answer into locations it can comfortably sail I'm essentially lost at sea (if you'll pardon the overlong boating metaphor). But black clouds are gathering and I'll take any port in a storm (which if I understand this metaphor means I'll talk about anything). So shrimp... you either love it or you hate it or you're indifferent about it but one thing's for sure you can't escape it. So there you go. Another brilliant insight into my good old brain there. See you all tomorrow for some rambling which hopefully actually goes somewhere worth going.

Puttering around tonight before crashing in bed; we watched a bit more of Netflix matter including season one, disc four of Foyle's War, which continues to be very good, and we watched an episode of season three of Battlestar Galactica.

I've also finished issue #75 of Fables, which seems to be something of an ending, but I'm not really sure...

The fact that so many people are foaming at the mouth to denounce Sarah Palin's lack of experience while simultaneously licking the dust from Barack Obama's shoes is INTENSELY fascinating to me.

Combine that with these insane childbirth tinfoil hatters and I think I've got all the proof I need that modern liberalism is a tragic form of mild brain damage.

It's a smart mouse, that one! [04 Sep 2008|07:12pm]

calzephyr77
The composter has been moved. A chorus of mice singing "It's a Small World" nor rapid scurrying did not greet me, thankfully. But the bird feeder has to go, at least for a while. Once I'm over this cold I'll see what natural pest deterrants I can find. Apparently spraying an area with bleach is one solution. I should have been a little more diligent in addressing this problem beforehand, but now it's reached the point where security trumps laziness.

I filled the bird feeder with Harrison's pellets - I bought the wrong size once and realized this only after opening the bag. I stuck it in the freezer and pulled it out when I ran out of bird seed. The sparrows don't seem to like it, but I tell ya, the mouse sure did! I just happened to look out the window while feeding the fids and he had crammed himself into one of the feeder compartments. He was like that for about five minutes more - and then he delicately made his way back down via the rose bush. I thought he might have scarpered up the pole, but the thorns were not a deterrant at all.

I had a dream this morning about mice actually - I dreamt that the mice were rolling tomatoes across the front lawn. Then they turned into ugly rats that were trying to eat through the screen door. Gah!

Mission (statement) accomplished. [05 Sep 2008|01:09am]

Right then. After considerable deliberation, picking and choosing of words and generally beating the damn thing with sticks, here's Steve's Mission Statement:

I am an experienced, deadline-driven artist producing imaginative and eye-catching concept and character art for the games industry. I bring a helpful attitude and versatile, multi-skilled approach to both team and solo environments. My overriding goal is to make the best games possible, bringing them to life with striking visuals that not only enthuse but inspire the viewer.

With many thanks to Wen for putting up with my blathering about it over IM, and offering many helpful suggestions. We'll see what the guy says, and go from there.

For now, though, I sleep. =_=

Update Post : A companion poll [30 Sep 2008|09:25pm]

morningstarlady
[ mood | contemplative ]

Hmmm...it looks like we won't be leaving for Yellowstone until a week later I thought we would. That means one more addtional week for Aerowen to be adventuring...so, I guess there is time to meet up with at least one companion.

Wulfren and Laurenna were not included because Lokken is in Solsthiem and Aeronwen needs a lot more training and levels before she can survive there.

With the way Live Journal has its polls set up, a person has to have an account to vote. For those you don't have/want an account, you're more than welcome to give your vote via a comment.

Poll #1253774 Which Companion
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

Which companion should Aeronwen meet first?

View Answers

Constance - It's amusing to watch Aeronwen trying to make that girl walk the straight and narrow. Plus Aeronwen needs someone she can have "girl talk" with.
0 (0.0%)

Julan - Because so many of us keep telling you that Aeronwen and Julan are "meant to be" and we will hunt you down and kill you dead if they are not finally together - the sooner the better!
0 (0.0%)

Gatanas - a goody-two-shoes Redoran Wood Elf and a sexy all male Dremora. It doesn't get any better than that.
1 (50.0%)

Other (who do you have in mind?)
1 (50.0%)

What you really need is a Dagoth Ur companion mod. Dagoth Ur has been all alone in the heart chamber for a LONG time. Maybe he'll want to make Aeronwen his Dagoth Goddess and together they can rule the world and make a bunch of little Dagoths.

some big news [04 Sep 2008|08:16pm]

zarkia
[ mood | happy ]
[ music | cocteau twins and harold budd - the moon and the melodies -The Ghost Has No Home ]

i kept meaning to update, i just kept forgetting.

it's turned cold here, cold like winter, cold like it stings your nose when you breathe in. i'm wearing a jumper and gloves today. still, i'm kind of excited about winter. the last winter i had was a year ago, in new zealand.
the thermometer in my room read 17.4 degrees earlier. it's sayiing 20.1 now. a computer is an amazing room warming apparatus, really. lets you update your journal and listen to music while heating your room. woo!

so - my big news of the week: i got new boots. [info]lordkilljoy and i went on a slightly random road trip to limerick and i got them in wacky shoes. wacky shoes is also where i got my funky red boots a few years ago - it's just this godsend of a shoe shop - like [info]zarkia's shoe shop or something.
and the trip ended up being doubly good because [info]lordkilljoy got a present for his nephew (who is 1).

my other massive news is that i'm moving up to maynooth at the end of september. i still don't have a job, but actually being there will (hopefully) help me get a job a little quicker. i guess it will be a bit wierd for [info]lordkilljoy to have me hanging out with him all the time and making a big mess with my stuff and invading his shelves with my books and dvds and my computer peripherals (graphics tablet, printer, pink mouse, etc). i'm quite excited about it.

i've been thinking about my novel too. there is a reason why i havn't been working on it so much recently and that is because it is deeply flawed and i have no idea how to fix it. a lot of things just don't make sense, mostly in the cultures in the worlds. so i'm thinking of going back to world-building and doing it properly. i totally concentrated on characters and plot before i started writing and didn't do proper world-building at all. which is fine. i'm ok with doing things higgledy-piggledy. i couldn't have done world-building first because the story is not about the world, it's about the characters. but now that the plot is well entrenched in my mind i can go back and play with the world all i want, and make it so that the characters are actually a product of where they are from rather than things just feeling random. and what i also didn't want was the world dictating the plot.
hmmmmmm. yea. i'll see how well that works out for me. i'm a very random person, and having to pin things down utterly gives me serious procrastination symptoms.

[edit - i really like this music. it's very mellow, and sort of ambient. but it reminds me of vangelis a lot.]
