Some Links and Save Moonlight Ideas I Found
Okay I've been looking things up because I want to do something. I'm really enjoying Moonlight and I want it around!

Links
Save Moonlight Petition
Save Moonlight Site - has addresses
Give Blood for Moonlight - passed but I say give blood and send CBS a pic of you doing it.
Moonlight United - Campaign going

The Petitions don't usually get you far but I signed it anyway.

I'm writing those addies!

I think it a cool idea to give blood and either send some kind of receipt of take a pic of you doing it so you can send it to CBS and tell them you did it for Mick/Moonlight! But whatever! - This would be saving the world... or lives.

The Moonlight United site has an actual #'s you can call to help with saving our show so DO IT!
And then there is the Call CBS 5/14 thing... )

Moonlight Producers Confirm Cancellation
This just might be the most depressing news yet coming out of the New York upfronts.

I've just received word from Gabrielle Stanton and Harry Werksman, bosses of Moonlight, that the series has been canceled.

They sent me this message to pass along to you fans:

It's true. We found out about an hour ago that Moonlight has been officially canceled.

We are truly saddened by the news and are sorry that we won't get the chance to live with our wonderful characters and follow them on their adventures for a second season.

We really want to thank all our loyal fans for their undying love and support of the show. We never would have made it this far without them.

In vampire solidarity...rah, rah!

Gabrielle Stanton & Harry Werksman

This series has one of the most dedicated, passionate audiences I've ever seen in the many years in this job. And to all of you I extend a heartfelt hug.

That E! Woman

That's all, folks.

Mad As Hell: The Venting Thread
It was mentioned in another post, so here it is. The place to get out your rants and rage over ML's cancellation.

Just remember: people involved with ML personally do read this forum. People may disagree with you and as always, you must respect everyone's opinions.

Go nuts, folks. However, the second I see bashing towards the actors or threats of any sort toward any living person, I'm shutting this down.

With that said, go on, get your rage on.

CBS not renewing 'Moonlight'
Series suffered declining ratings
By James Hibberd
The Hollywood Reporter
May 13, 2008, 01:59 PM

CBS' vampire drama "Moonlight" will not rise again.

Sources confirm the fan favorite will not be renewed by the network for a second season.

CBS declined to pickup the series because it was failing to hold its "Ghost Whisperer" lead-in and declined in the ratings post-strike. Last Friday's episode garnered a 2.0 rating among adults 18 to 49.

The news will doubtlessly devastate "Moonlight" fans, which have been very passionate for the show by any standard. Recently fans organized a nationwide blood drive to rally viewer support for a renewal.

But last year CBS picked up cult favorite "Jericho" despite mediocre ratings, only to see the series plummet when it returned this year. With "Moonlight" having a serialized storyline, the chances of the show rebounding next season seemed slim.

The cancellation means "The Big Bang Theory" is the only member of CBS' freshman crop to return next year.

Moonlight Canceled

Producers of "How I Met Your Mother," "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Rules of Engagement" and "The Unit" can stop biting their nails -- CBS has renewed all four skeins. But fans of "Moonlight" are going to be up in arms because the Eye has passed on a sophomore sesh of the vampire drama starring Alex O'Loughlin.

"Moonlight," meanwhile, was done in by a combination of factors. It's understood that Eye execs were not impressed with the show's creative development, and there was much drama and turnover behind the scenes among producers and scribes. The final straw was the show's middling ratings perf during the past few weeks after its post-strike return.

Jason Dohring in Portrait Magazine Poll
Passing this along for anyone who'd like to vote:
Top 30 under 30.

Jason Dohring is one of the choices. It's at the top of the page, in the center.

"Just like last year we want you guys to choose the Top 30 stars under the age of 30 for our 2008 list! We've been taking your nominations for the last couple of weeks and below is the poll featuring over a hundred nominees!

NOTE: If your favorite isn't in the list they either weren't nominated (there's a lot of people who qualify and we can't think of everyone), haven't been working this year, or won't be under the age of 30 when the final list is released."

Fan devotion is definitely being noted
Over at NJ.com, in an article about Jimmy Fallon, this little tidbit showed up in a paragraph about CBS:

If "Moonlight" gets canceled, the Save Our Show campaign will likely make the "Jericho" peanuts thing look like amateur hour, so the vampire show might get renewed out of fear.

We can only hope.

Wrap up? Either way it goes? No matter if they cancel or not?
I was thinking on the off chance that the show is not renewed because of the fact that the powers that be only bow to the $, and don't take into account that we love the show (hey it did win ppls choice), is there a chance that we can ask them for a mini series episode so they can wrap up the story for us? So it can have a beggining a middle and an end?

Kind of like what Farscape did with TPKW. I am the sort of person that ownes allot of DVD's of TV shows and I would really love to buy Moonlight. But I only get those TV shows that wrap up the story line...If moonlight ends with a cliffhanger or a non ending to the story I am not going to buy the DVD's. And I relly would LOVE to buy the DVD's.

And would not we all want to see an ending (even if they do renew the show I mean...) would not we want there to be a last episode at some point?

PS I would not mind if it was episodes and not a miniseries. It could be episodes... like Alias did for example or Jericho.

JUST AS LONG AS THERE IS AN ENDING TO THE STORY

News from Deadline Hollywood Daily

We have more news from Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily blog about the behind the scenes negotiations for Moonlight. According to her, our show is still fighting!

Primetime Pilot Panic: 'Moonlight' Not On CBS Fall Schedule But Not Dead; Show Lobbying For Back 13-Episode Order

The news just came in to me from my sources.... "They're fighting for a back 13, but Moonlight is definitely not on the fall schedule. But it's not dead, either. Insiders tell me the sticking point is money: that CBS wants Warner Bros to "step up" more financially. But WBTV is saying back to CBS that the network has to step up as well, even though CBS doesn't own the show. Here's what I can tell you about the behind-the-scenes:

Moonlight has been fraught with problems (see below). But CBS' Nina tassler told the producers that she was "very happy" with the direction of the series. The show pitched her the stories for all next season, "and Nina loved them". And then CBS gave the show its list of what the network wanted. But CBS made clear that the renewal of the show was "all going to be dependent on making the last four shows of this season ratings-wise. Well, those ratings were only fair. They didn't win the night, but they won their demos. On the other hand, Friday's ratings are always low. But the real story is, as usual in Hollywood, all about the money. Even though comparatively Moonlight is being done on the cheap (especially when put up against another WBTV show, Pushing Daisies on ABC, which is a notoriously expensive production), and was picked up in the beginning by CBS for a relatively low licensing fee, CBS now wants Warner Bros to pick up more of the tab. There was a specific conversation between the two Big Media outfits about this on Wednesday of last week. "We need you to step up," CBS reportedly told WB. To which WB responded to CBS, "You step up, and we'll step up." Interestingly, I hear that CBS just ordered to series the pilots The Mentalist and 11th hour which both have higher licensing fees than Moonlight. But the producers knew all along that their series was "on the bubble," so to speak. And in response to communication pushing the network to pick up Moonlight, I understand that CBS responded to the effect, "Where's WB? Why won't they step up?"

Meanwhile, there have been other problems. Coming back from the writers strike, the executive producer and showrunner Chip Johanssen was cut loose, despite being a close friend of Tassler’s. Also, series creator Ron Koslow was shown the door after the picket signs went down. That left no official showrunners in place to guide the episodes produced after the strike ended. Husband and wife writers / producers Harry Werksman and Gabrielle Stanton were informally given the reins, and they supervised the most recent four shows ending the season. The question is whether they are up to the task. I hear the Moonlight producers offered to change showrunners to get a CBS renewal. Already, the fallout has led one of the few surviving players, staff writer and producer Jill Blotevogel, to be unceremoniously dumped before any renewal is announced. There's a rumor which I haven't confirmed that, if CBS does renew, it may bring the showrunners from the expected-to-be-cancelled Shark to come in and retool Moonlight.

This Isn't Promising: Renewal Rumblings
Renewals and cancellations are flying fast and furious on this, the first official day of "upfront" week. Here's the latest:

[...]

• CBS is expected to bring The Unit back, and may slot it on Fridays at 9 pm. What does that mean for Moonlight? Good question.

ETA: Thanks, [info]storytellerslie:
Don't freak out yet, but the word on Moonlight is suddenly trending negative.

My personal favorite Moonlight source just informed me of rumblings that the show was not looking good for a season-two pickup.

Sadly, Variety's Cynthia Littleton (who is a crackerjack reporter of the highest order) is saying the same thing. In particular, Cynthia reports, "CBS is high on a bunch of its drama pilots this year (no surprise there), and thus, there may not be room on the Eye's sked for more Moonlight next season."

Now, nothing is official until Wednesday, when CBS presents its 2008-09 slate to advertisers, so no need to panic yet, but I thought you guys would want to know the word on the street, for better or for worse.

Source One, Source Two

Question is, if it's renewed, where will they put it? Will it be a midseason replacement (also not good)?

ETA: Let me just say this. If ML is canceled, then it was really damn fucked of Joel Silver to tell the cast not to book work for the new season. If ML isn't renewed, he just screwed this cast out of jobs next season.
