FAQ: How to Use Mood Themes
PAID ACCOUNT
01. Download the zip file.
02. Upload the CONTENTS of the zip file (extracted images) to your own server.
03. Go to the LJ Admin Console (This will open the link in a new browser.)
04. Type: moodtheme_create "title" "description" (Make sure to use quotation marks!)
05. Click Execute.
06. You should see this: Success. Your new moodthemeid is it will give you a number here
07. Write down the number.
08. Open the installation code to your mood theme in Notepad or Microsoft Word. (Creators should have this code available for you. If not, please contact them directly.)
09. Press CTRL+H to replace text.
10. Replace current theme numbers with the theme number LJ gave you.
11. Replace the URL with the URL you uploaded the theme to. (Do not change the name of the files, or the file sizes.)
12. Go back to the Admin Console.
13. Copy/Paste your new installation code into the box and press Execute.
14. Scroll down and check the installation. If something is in red, look back over your code and make sure you put in the correct information, or that you didn't leave any extra spaces in the URL. Execute again.
15. Go to Modify Journal.
16. Select your new mood theme from the drop-down list. (It will be at the bottom.)

FREE ACCOUNT
1. Download the mood theme (use WinZip or WinRar to decompress the file).
2. Upload the mood theme to YOUR OWN DOMAIN (Photobucket offers free image hosting). Do not change the file names.
3. Download this file to your Desktop, or somewhere easily accessible. You'll have to open this sucker up every time you make an entry.
4. Replace the URL in the text file (www.hosting.com) with the URL to the folder that stores the mood theme images that you previously uploaded. Edit > Replace > Replace All allows you to replace every line so you don't have to do it manually. (Feel free to change the design or the words "mood" and "music" to whatever you want.) Save the file!
5. When making an entry into your journal, Using File > Find, or Ctrl+F allows you to jump to the mood that you're looking for. Now, you can paste this into your entry first or last, it's really up to you. Just remember not to fill in the mood or music in the Update box, or you will have these come out twice in your posts.

This post just tells you how to install them. There is no mood theme with this certain post. :)
The mood theme posts show pictures with it. When you install them, you can name the theme anything you want.

Photobucket would count as your [web] server, where you upload your filers to. :)

LJ seems to have changed some things with how to upload mood themes, so I need to update my How To's. Oi vey!

Hi, I've just created a mood theme, but I didn't know anything about an installation code. I've already had people download it for use, though I don't think anyone's put it up yet, and the LJ FAQ doesn't seem to say anything about it... So, how does the installation code part work?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]kvinna
2004-12-19 08:24 pm UTC (link)
This is installation code you need to install mood themes via the Admin Console. To use it, you need to change moodID with the ID that LJ gives you, and YOURURLGOESHERE with the URL that your images point to. 100 represents the length of the image and 65 represents the height.

You can use this raw code to make it work for any mood theme you create. All you have to do is change the attributes listed above. Be careful with Replace All when you want to change the length and height. You will replace the mood number (the number between the moodID and the URL). If you use Replace All, just make sure you go back and correct the mood number that changed before you upload it for people to use.

okay, i just created my own mood theme and individually loaded all the pictures into photobucket. I got an ID number from the admin consol, but when I filled out the code and hit "execute" it said they all failed because "You do not own this theme." I checked to make sure I typed the number correctly and I did. is there a step a missed? im so confused..

My moodtheme is uploading fine, and there are no failed things anywhere, but when I select it on my modify page and do that, the pictures won't appear on my journal. They just come up with little red x's.

Side question... how does one delete a custom mood theme? (Example: I screwed up in the code so in the interest of time I'm just re-uploading the whole kit & caboodle instead of fixing each entry individually.)

If you use the same moodID, it will save your new mood theme over it. You don't have to go delete it.

According to the "mood" FAQ, "When posting journal entries you can also specify your current mood. Different users have submitted different sets of mood icons that you can use."

Why not just submit this mood theme for everyone to use? Seems much more direct.

I'm sorry but which mood FAQ are you viewing? I didn't find that quote in the one I was just looking at.

Yes, LJ users have submitted the mood sets for public consumption (same as layouts). What might not be obvious is that all of the public/free user mood sets are original artwork. LJ can not and will not upload a mood set that breaks copyright law, which is why Regular Joe can't simply upload a mood set for everyone to use. It definitely would be more efficient for us, but unfortunately it will never happen. However, if you do have an original set that you would like LJ to upload, I don't see why they would say no. I'm not too sure how they handle it, though, so I would suggest e-mailing Support.
