Best Chinese Buffet for Christmas Day/New Years?

It's almost Christmas again, and like most jews at this time of year we are looking for the best Chinese buffet in Montreal.

Any suggestions out there?

Turnip cake

Hi, the craving suddenly hit, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any chinese restaurants/bakeries where they have turnip cake (Law Bok Gow). Preferably downtown or within walking distance of a metro.

Much appreciated!

Best banh mi?

I've a friend coming here for Worldcon who's excited that it's around the corner from Chinatown and its delights. He wants to know where to get the best banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). I know there are a few places but banh mi's far from my first choice in C-town, so I don't know what to recommend. Anyone?

(Any other brilliant C-town stuff would be good to know about too. I've already suggested the Kam Fung for dim sum and am glad folks here approve!)

Restaurants in Chinatown?

Next week, my friend and I will visit a little bit
Chinatown in Montreal. I know it's small and maybe
not that interesting, but my friend never went
here and I'd like to show her the best places.
I already ate around here, but I still don't
know which would be the best restaurant to go
with her.

Any recommendations?

Thank you!

EDIT: I'd like to thank you all for your replies. It helps me a lot ;)

Looking for rice balls

I tried a Chinese dessert a little while ago that was a rice ball with sweet red bean filling inside. I'm looking for a place I can have it again, because it's very, very yummy. I'm sure there must be somewhere in Chinatown, but I'm not particularly familiar with that area of the city. Could someone recommend a place for me to get these? Approximate price would be a bonus.

Thanks!

Visiting Montréal

Hello Montréal,
I will be visiting the city for the first week of March and I am looking for things to do.

- Recommend me some concert venues! Would love to hear some live music while I'm there, so if you could just tell me some cool venues where good shows tend to go to and I'll check with their calendars. Something along the lines of L'Olympia, Il Motore...
- Good student-budget friendly restaurants? Bars?
- Good places to shop other than the huge mall-to-mall link? Any good used bookstores? Music shops (other than Archambault)?
- What's the weather/ground condition like in early March? Still icy and cold? :(
- Long shot, but are any of you familiar with the alcohol variety in both Québec AND Ontario? I want to try some things I can't get in Ontario, Québec beers or wines... I'll take some recommendation. Really expanding my alcohol horizons, haha.
- I'd like to go out dancing, but are there any clubs that are indie-kids friendly? I'm really not into guys in button down shirts and girls in short rayon dresses scene...
- Other general fun things I should do?

Downtown/Quartier Latin/Chinatown/Old Montreal please. A lot to ask for a four-day stay, but I love the city so much and I don't get to go there much so I'd like to fit in as much as possible!

Thanks in advance :)

This is a bit random, but does anyone know where one can acquire a Mahjong set? I'm guessing Chinatown is my best bet, but I thought I'd ask if anyone knew of a specific store that would definitely have them.

Chinese NY

Chinese New Year is coming up next week and I was wondering if people knew what the festivities are... like dragon dances in the afternoon in Chinatown? Any information would be kindly appreciated :)

ds/psp party

Just as a reminder, for those who were interested...

The DS/PSP party is today (sorry for last minute to those who didn't know), Friday May 18th at 4PM (until 8pm or whenever you leave) at L2, a lounge/restaurant in Chinatown at Place d'Armes metro. (E-mail me at mina.rin at hotmail dot com if you're lost).

Friday was the most convenient for most people so I'm sorry to those who can't make it. However, for those who have work, it goes until 8pm and people are dropping by at various times. Hope to see you there!

Second DS/PSP Party

Hey, this is just a post to see how many people are interested and available.

I know some people want it on a Saturday and others on a Friday but I'm thinking it's gonna work out better for me on a Friday...

Please fill out the poll on my journal! Feel free to comment on either post, too.

By the way, L2 is a Chinese lounge/restaurant in Chinatown and they don't like it when you don't buy anything so there is a 3$ minimum (a drink is about 3.50).

cross-posted to [info]montreal_gamers and my journal.

Hungry at midnight

Does anyone here know of any restaurants that offer food delivery service this late? I'm probably out of luck tonight, but for future reference, what are your favorite delivery-friendly restaurants? With the weather we've had this past week, I'd like to keep a list handy.

Oh yeah, I'd also like to recommend the restaurant Shanghai Garden (1051St. Laurent) for all Chinese food and fondue (hot pot) enthusiasts. $12.50 for the buffet! One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal.

Edit: I found this handy Montreal delivery menu site from McGill Underground: http://www.mcgillunderground.com/informationpage/menus.php

Hair cut places in China Town?

This might be a silly question but does anyone know if there's a hair salon (or any place to cut hair ^^;) in China Town? I always have trouble finding places there but I've never noticed any hair salons whenever I'm eating or shopping there.
