I'm running short on creativity and knowledge in this area.

Does anyone know of a good place to hold a child's birthday party on the island for a bunch of five year olds (and of course their parents who'll be tagging along)?

I was thinking about maybe Atrium Le 1000 but I'm not sure about ice skating at that young age. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :)

Recommendations for kids clown?

Greetings,

Any recommendations for a reasonably-priced kid's clown to animate a small birthday party for someone turning 4 years old? Ideally a bilingual entertainer who does magic tricks too.

Thanks,

Families in Montreal

Hi there - I'm hoping to get in touch with some people who have infants/young kids, and are living in Montreal.  My husband and I are moving to the city in September with a new baby, and we're hoping to live in a family-friendly neighbourhood, or get an idea of where we should live that will let us be close to ammenities, daycare, metro, etc, and hopefully have a few young families around perhaps in a similar situation to us.  My partner has a post-doc at UMontreal - which seems to be a pretty standard reason to move to Montreal, if the community memories are any indication - and we're both musicians as well, and hoping to stay in that scene.

I've been reading the community memories for a while now, but I haven't been able to find all that much to help since it's a rather specific question, and I really just want opinions and annecdotes, since we know nothing right now from a personal viewpoint.  I would be grateful if anyone would be willing to message me, and perhaps have an email conversation about it.  I'm particularly curious about daycare availability, the general kid-friendliness of restaurants and shops.  I'm going to try the mom's group I saw linked in the memories as well.

Thanks for your time.

me again.

another quick question.

i'm looking to buy baby/dog gates that i can use to square off a corner in my dining room for my puppy. so i guess you would say i need two "sides". in other words, i don't want the kind that are used in door frames. i need two sides that can be put together in an "L"-shape. i am thinking of places like wal-mart, zellers, canadian tire.

does anyone have any recommendations as to where to find something like this? i'm kind of desperate because i need to get them tomorrow before everything closes for the holiday. i don't want to run around the city, only to find the kind that fit in door frames.

thanks!

Nanny taxes, etc.

I was just offered a position as a nanny with a really nice family in Outremont, and I was wondering if there are any other nannies hanging around the community who might be able to tell me a little bit about how you handle your taxes and everything. I'm going to discuss arrangements with the parents at our next meeting and I'm also supposed to contact the accountant who does my own family's taxes to ask him for information and all, but it'd be great to get a little more personal insight into the financial and fiscal side of the job.

Also, I figured that this was a good way to meet other nannies in the first place, maybe even in the hopes of setting up eventual playdates for our kids :}

Hey baby won't you please stay.

Do you need a nanny?

Hi! If any of you are looking or know someone who might be looking for a nanny, part-time or full-time (preferably long-term), I'd love to be put in contact! I can provide a resumé and cover letter to any interested parties. I have several years of experience in child-care and I'm a fun, cheerful and friendly bilingual girl who loves taking care of kids and other domestic tasks, so please pass the word along to anyone who might need some help. Thanks!

merci!

i won't go into the details, but  i'm currently trying to make a urban legends database for this children writing project i'm working on. since it's for children, i'm not looking for trash, gore or sexual ones, tho if you reckon it's possible to adapt them, i'll take them too.

thanks!

Christmas trees!

Second Westmount Cubs (my Pack) are selling Christmas trees and wreaths again this year.

Trees are $35 and wreaths are $25.  You can pick them up December 8th between 5 and 8pm or December 9th between 9am and 3pm.  Pick up is at Mountainside Church on the corner of The Boulevard and Landsdowne in Westmount.

We deliver to most of Montreal for 5$

These are great trees and the money goes to support our programs such as camps and other activities.  Also, live trees are good for the enviroment!  They're biodegradeable, promote tree planting and can be recycled.  Plus they smell good!

Where to eat, Montreal Mamas (& Dads)?

Do you know of a good place a mama friend of mine and her two kids (5 and 10) can dine pleasurably? Y'know, funky for us but also non-fancy blandish food for the little people?
