Babysitting

Hi, all,

I'm a McGill student looking for a part-time babysitting or nanny job. I have five years experience watching infants through age nine. I'm responsible, energetic, creative, and I enjoy spending time with kids- a lot, a lot!

If you need a sitter, or know someone who does, comment to get in touch. I don't drive, but I metro like whoa.

References available on request.

Baby on board

You know those silly road sign looking signs that one sticks in their car? Baby on board? I'm looking to purchase a gift for a friend and want to find a french one Bébé à bord.  I know they exist, but I haven't been able to find one, has anyone seen one about town? Metro accessible would be even better, thanks!

Schools and daycares in VSL

I'm moving at the end of the month to Ville St Laurent(on Modugno if this helps). And I need some information.

I have to transfer my daughters schooling, and was wondering if anyone knew of any English schools in the area? And if so, if anyone has any recommendations? I don't want to transfer her from an amazing school to a crappy one lol.

Secondly. Is there any daycares in the area? Private or Public daycares? I need to call around and put my younger daughters name in some, as she's needing to get into one ASAP, espescially since I will be starting to work in October.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doctor for a Well-Baby Check-Up

I'm spending the summer in Montreal from Victoria, BC with my kids.

I have a 9 month old baby, and I'd like to take him in to have what I know as a "Well-Baby Check-Up", just a basic weight-check/once over, etc. We all have BC health cards, and I'd prefer to be able to use it and not pay cash out of pocket.

Does anyone know where we could do this? Anywhere close to The Plateau where we're staying would be great, as we're car-free.

Families in Montreal

Hi there - I'm hoping to get in touch with some people who have infants/young kids, and are living in Montreal.  My husband and I are moving to the city in September with a new baby, and we're hoping to live in a family-friendly neighbourhood, or get an idea of where we should live that will let us be close to ammenities, daycare, metro, etc, and hopefully have a few young families around perhaps in a similar situation to us.  My partner has a post-doc at UMontreal - which seems to be a pretty standard reason to move to Montreal, if the community memories are any indication - and we're both musicians as well, and hoping to stay in that scene.

I've been reading the community memories for a while now, but I haven't been able to find all that much to help since it's a rather specific question, and I really just want opinions and annecdotes, since we know nothing right now from a personal viewpoint.  I would be grateful if anyone would be willing to message me, and perhaps have an email conversation about it.  I'm particularly curious about daycare availability, the general kid-friendliness of restaurants and shops.  I'm going to try the mom's group I saw linked in the memories as well.

Thanks for your time.

Nanny taxes, etc.

I was just offered a position as a nanny with a really nice family in Outremont, and I was wondering if there are any other nannies hanging around the community who might be able to tell me a little bit about how you handle your taxes and everything. I'm going to discuss arrangements with the parents at our next meeting and I'm also supposed to contact the accountant who does my own family's taxes to ask him for information and all, but it'd be great to get a little more personal insight into the financial and fiscal side of the job.

Also, I figured that this was a good way to meet other nannies in the first place, maybe even in the hopes of setting up eventual playdates for our kids :}

Do you need a nanny?

Hi! If any of you are looking or know someone who might be looking for a nanny, part-time or full-time (preferably long-term), I'd love to be put in contact! I can provide a resumé and cover letter to any interested parties. I have several years of experience in child-care and I'm a fun, cheerful and friendly bilingual girl who loves taking care of kids and other domestic tasks, so please pass the word along to anyone who might need some help. Thanks!

Pediatrician? Toddler entertainment?

Hi there, I'm looking for some advice about doctors. My husband and I just moved back to Montreal after a few years away, and we're looking for either a family doctor or a pediatrician who's taking patients. Preferably in the NDG area, though we could drive further afield if necessary. Clinics and the CLSC were fine when we were students, but now that we have a child, we want a more permanent physician. Besides, the CLSC doesn't see children, so we can't go that route. I know how hard it can be to find a doctor in this city, but I was hoping someone might have some good advice. If we can't find a doctor in the next month or so, where do we go to get his vaccinations taken care of? Just to the hospital?

Also, does anyone know of good programs for toddlers in the vicinity of NDG? I've tried looking at several different community centres in the neighbourhood, and none have what I'm looking for - music/rhythm/movement classes, arts and crafts, swim programs, or even just an open play area where kids can run around in a gymnasium while their parents sit on the sidelines and chat. Some facilities have resources for older kids (like 4 and up) but nothing for the really little ones. Even the parks near our place are dominated by school-aged kids and I've seen very few moms with babies the age of mine (14 months) since moving here. The NDG Community Centre seems to have a couple of things starting in September, but there's nothing going on right now that I can see (I went there and the office was closed for the summer and the place was completely dead :P) I'm feeling very cut off from other moms right now, having left behind the entire support network I'd built up since he was born, and I'm trying to find some way to get out of the house. Any suggestions? Any other parents of toddlers in here who'd like to meet up for a play-date? :)
